Re: Marijuana Legalization. Would it be better to ask the President...

Lately, via youtube videos and town hall meetings, Obama has been routinely getting asked "why can't we legalize marijuana"

I was thinking it would be better to pose the question:

"With tobacco and alcohol killings hundreds of thousands each year by health complications, accidents, etc. and in comparison, marijuana doesn't kill anybody and is now known to be relatively safe in comparison, why is it that tobacco and alcohol are legal, regulated, and taxed products while yet marijuana remains illegal causing massive stress on our judicial and law enforcement systems and costing tax payers billions of dollars in enforcement costs? I would predict that any logic you will use to justify tobacco and alcohol's legality can be applied to marijuana."

I guess.. rather than posing the question to have him justify marijuana's illegality, have him justify alcohol and tobacco's legality.

Both options are political suicide. Not going to happen.

YOU CAN'T TELL ME WHAT I CAN AND CANNOT PUT IN MY BODY. THIS IS NOT SOVIET RUSSIA!

HOW DARE YOU SUGGEST WE LEGALIZE A DRUG THAT IS TEARING OUR SOCIETY APART ALSO GATEWAY DRUG AND I HEAR MANY WERE HIGH WHEN GETTING MARRIED TO ANOTHER MAN IN NEW YORK!!!

...and so on, and so forth.

There's no way to reason with retards. They'll say gateway drug then conveniently forget that most drug addicts also drink alcohol and smoke cigarettes. Are those gateway drugs too?
Then they'll say there's some kind of link between marijuana and schizophrenia. That may be true. Did you know it's also true that an unbelievably huge majority of schizophrenic people smoke cigarettes?

There's no way to argue with retarded voters and retarded politicians.

InB4 our resident Cali potheads call you an idiot for being a realist.

Oh, it is as safe to breathe as clean air?

Is newspaper safe to breath if you smoke it? What about crushing up tylenol and smoking it like crack? Does the harm of smoking something ever justify making it illegal across the board?

What about texting while driving? Did we ban texting outright because people are texting and causing accidents? Or do we ban 'texting while driving'?

I mean.. they could even legalize marijuana and make it 'illegal to smoke'. Doing so would actually drive down the costs of pot, making it more reasonable and economical to put in edible form or vaporize.

I'd be surprised if he actually answered the question one way or the other. He'll probably just segue into a rambling campaign speech full of buzz words that isn't even related to the question asked.

Marijuana being "not as bad as alcohol and tobacco" is less of a perk for marijuana, and more of a reason to outlaw alcohol and tobacco. As in, it's a shitty argument.

That's my point. "more of a reason' doesn't matter when you know it's not going to happen. So no matter how he triesd to justify it, it won't work. If he can't justify why the feds, after all these years, haven't banned both outright, then marijuana legalization wins by default.

Well, I'd be interested to hear the justification for allowing marijuana smoking, but not tobacco smoking.

Cali just passed a law saying landlords can ban tobacco smokers from renting, but it apparently says nothing about mj smokers.

Rule 1 of politics:

Do not under any circumstances try to understand what goes on in California.

Exactly. Just about very politician in the country does that when faced with a tough question.
Were it up to me, it'd be legal. Nobody gets high and beats their wife or kids.
Same here. Its continued illegality makes no logical sense until one considers that certain pockets would no longer be lined if it were suddenly legalized.

too much money from tobacco and alcohol lobbys to keep marry-wanna illegal.

if you could buy a pack of joints or whatever from the corner store, this would cannibalize alcohol and tobacco sales.

Doctors will write a prescription to say you should be smoking so hard that you something something eat food. I don't think many doctors tell people to smoke cigarettes.

Some people should be told to buy nicotine inhalers. Seriously. Some people are just insane assholes if they don't get their nicotine.

Drug use is the preferred choice of losers everywhere. Who cares what losers want? :colbert:

This man disagrees:

Because unlike most of the rest of the country, California isn't as retarded when it comes to cannabis. Why go to the President? It has been made clear he doesn't give a fuck, he's just another corporate sellout anyways.

Everyone is a drug addict, we just use different "drugs". I bet for some praying is their drug of choice. I'm pretty sure most people who talk like you have happiness issues. I smoke cannabis every day and I probably float around a 92%-94% daily happiness level.
