I had one "hard crash" in the video (lost video signal) so far, if I get one or two more, I'm going to revert back to prior drivers.

Also, these have the issue that if you enable GPU scaling, it drops your display output to "4:2:0" from "4:4:4" (HDMI 2.0 connection to a 40" 4K UHD TV.)

Edit: - So I turned my computer on today and after only having the card for about a week , I have black lines all over my screen..
Quickly checked GPU temps and my memory is showing 80c with no games running??
I am not overclocking at all and actually running in efficiency/eco mode.
I tried changing the Bios toggle back to performance mode and that did nothing.
The fans are running like normal so I have no clue why this is happening.
I pulled the GPU out and put back in my Radeon 7850 and the probem is gone.
Popped the 5700 XT back in and the problems came back...
I dont know what else to do but send the card back in for RMA..

I ended up just shipping the Asus card back as well due to it just randomly dying.
At first it worked awesomely for 2 or 3 days, but then I started getting black vertical lines all over my screen. It started with one black line that wouldnt go away and Memory temps seemed to keep getting higher and higher and then more black lines started to appear and then my screen went into space invader mode and space invaders invaded my entire screen and it finally ended up with nothing, just pure blackness on the screen.
I think there is a major issue with GDDR6 in general that are causing these issues and I think it comes down to degradation of the GDDR6 chips them selves.
I say this because these problems are not isolated to just the 5700 XT but are also plaguing the RTX line up as well.
So now I have to choose yet another GPU to replace this card.
I am heavily thinking about trying out Nvidia RTX this time around though or going back to last gen RX 590 or GTX 1660 TI.
I am just desperate at this point in time to find a GPU that will actually work and not die on me after a few days of watching netflix and light gaming..

Is this the GPU you are using?? Is it any good and does it run cool?
How long have you had it for and is it still working?

I have one of the unbranded direct-from-AMD cards. Currently mine is under water. The stock cooler is pretty loud if you try to crank it up (necessary for OC) but if all you want to do is stick to stock clocks, you can massively undervolt to sip power and keep fans low. It does not have a blower which is nice. You can also OC RAM to about 1200 MHz for some extra performance (ymmv). If you are willing to work with the card, you can get pretty good results out of it. It performs about like an RTX2080, +/- 5%. Build quality is very high.

It's an odd card, and if you are hardcore into overclocking, the latest drivers are frustrating. But overall it should outperform the 5700XT. There are a few odd situations where RDNA does better.

I dont overclock at all and just look for the most raw power performance that I can buy for the least amount of money all while running cool and taking up the lowest amount of electricity that I can.
I just dont want to run into any of the issues I had with both 5700 XT cards that I had.
I have to have a GPU I can rely on and that wont kick the bucket right away.
Right now I absolutely refuse to purchase another 5700 XT at any cost due to way to many unmanaged issues with these cards that AMD has to fix.
These cards just were not ready to launch plain and simple!!
Do you think the Radeon VII would be any better and capable of not dying if left on over night?

Yep you were right but I am through with 5700 XT's for now and will being getting a 2070 super instead..
Unless they drop the price for the Radeon VII again!!

2070S and Radeon VII are both $499. Radeon VII should be faster. Unless you want the 2070S for some specific reason, I see no reason to buy one.

(Best Buy has Radeon VII for $499 right now)

Are you guys saying the 5700 series cards are not good right now? Even with the adrenaline drivers?

They seem okay, we just had one user with a pair of 5700XTs that were duds. One wouldn't operate at all (Red Devil) and another showed memory artifacting errors after a few days of use (Asus). I don't think failure rates on the cards are that high overall though.

I didnt mean to come across as all 5700 XT's were bad. Just the first card I got was DOA and the second card died on the 4th day of Christmas.
I actually really really liked the Asus Stix 5700 XT and it worked awesome when it did work for those 3 days.
For what ever reason it decided to die on me on the 4th day when booting into windows.
My guess is it has something to do with the GDDR6 memory degrading from heat and high voltages.
Micron and Samsung have some kinks to works out ,thats all.
Things like this happen on every launch for every card at first but get better over time as bugs are worked out.
I just happened to be one of the unlucky ones this time around, and that is saying something because I have been buying GPU's for 20+ years and this is the first time I have ever had a defective GPU let alone two!!

No, no particular reason??
I just thought that a 2070 Super would be a good replacement to 5700 XT since they are about the same strength minus the the RTX for the 5700 XT which isn't really even a thing yet for me.

I have to purchase from Newegg for a replacement because they are giving me store credit to replace my dead Asus 5700 XT.
Either that or I can chose to get a replacement Asus 5700 XT.
Honestly I dont know what to do and dont want to end up a fool for getting another 5700 XT and it arriving DOA or die within a couple days again..
I know I did kinda lash out and say I would never or refuse to ever buy another 5700 XT but I was just saying that out of anger because I was still upset.
I guess this is what they call early adopter pains HUH??

Ugh. Pity that. NewEgg did have a deal on Radeon VII a few days ago, but that's dead or they're out of stock. One or the other.

Something like that. Imagine being one of the people that got a space invadered 2080Ti.

I have some weird performance issues with some DX9 games, like GW2 and Book of Demons (at 1080p) - mostly the card downclocks really hard to the point that running VSR to 4K gives better and/or more consistent performance since the card stays closer to its boost clocks. I've also played with the clock curves for GW2 to help it stay at the clocks.

I was planning on getting a 5700 with non blower cooling and putting in the 5700XT bios. For $300 or less, is this a good way to go?

I have no hands down experience with using a 5700XT bios on a 5700, but I can tell you that the card performs very well on modern games like borderlands 3, gears 5 and red dead redemption II.
I had some performance quirks with some DX9 titles at 1080p (clocks jumping from 7 MHz to 1400MHz down to 400MHz and up and down) but hopefully they will be fixed in future drivers releases. The card is capable of running these old games at 4K so that is my short term solution.

Interesting. Radeon VII sort of does the same thing.

You could use MorePowerTool to pretest before flashing the bios or even just run with it in the end.

Sorry guys and gals I returned my last and final 5700 XT and ended up getting a Evga RTX 2070 Super.
To be honest here, there were just way to many issues and I was sick of dealing with dead or broken cards..
Long story short, I got my 2070 super and it works like it should from the get go.
None of this Bsod'ing or DOA bs that all 3 of the 5700 XT cards I tried have had.
I really wanted to like the 5700 XT and give my money to AMD but I guess it just wasnt in the stars this time around. :(
Anyways the 2070 super is working great and stays cools and I am really enjoying it so I guess that is all that matters..
Perhaps in the future if these issues ever get ironed out I may pick up the big brother 5900 XT after launch some time.

I am looking forward to a 5900 XT myself. Anyway, enjoy the 2070 Super, it should be a bit faster overall.

Hopefully by the time they finally do release the 5900 XT they will have worked out all the bugs that plague the 5700 XT series..
