i really don't give a shat if they don't know what they are wearing them for, although i'll bet close to all people do, it still remains that they paid money for it and it's going towards the fight against cancer.

Good friends? WTF? I've had 3 CLOSE RELATIVES die from it. I would think you would be more likely to be annoyed by people who don't know crap about cancer, apparently not. Gotta love the phrase wearing yellow. Sums up my point pretty well.
and those 3 CLOSE RELATIVES are rolling over in their graves hearing you bitch about something that is making money for cancer research.

for the record, my father died of cancer 2 1/2 yrs ago. viva la LiveStrong Bracelets! they are making money, and only with money are we gonna find a cure.

exactly.

i dont understand how someone can comlpain about bracelets that are raising money for cancer purposes.

if torpid had cancer, and we started a anandtech avatar fund, you think he'd start bitching then?

i highly doubt it.

i don't entirely understand how it works. Is it Lance Armstong's entire concept? Or is he just a major supporter?

I'm not annoyed at all at anyone who wears it. Why be? For everyone you see wearing a bracelet, they've donated at LEAST one dollar to LAF. The more people you see wearing them, the more money raised. It just doesnt make any sense to me that you'd get so worked up about it... and makes even less sense if you've had family members die from cancer. You really need to relax.

lance armstrong had cancer and lived through all the treaments, and still won the tour de france. he kicked ass even after going through the most horrible thing any human being can go through. hes leading this fund raiser to raise money for cancer research.

hes an icon of A LOT of cancer patients.

thats cool. at least hes doing something, so that others will not have to suffer like him. Its always great when somone who actually has power in the media pulls some strings, and get actual work done to help others. And it helps him put his name on the map (not that he may even need it.) Win/win for all, especially after the entire publicity of this all said and done, the money goes to help people, which in turn helps the entire world:thumbsup:

People don't roll over in their graves. It's a little known fact.

Money alone won't find a cure. At least not the paltry amount the charities are making. I'd prefer all of the money from the charity to go to families in need and similar. There are already bigger and more established charities for research. But still, something is better than nothing.

only if it's a yellow thong.

It'll be a yellow thong if he's the leader after each stage. You gotta go with the scheme that's been in use for years. Or it could be a yellow thong if he just didn't make it to the end of the stage in time.

OK, he's a good athlete, and it's a remarkable comeback story with no equal. But enough is enough. I'm tired of half the people I know praising him like he's their messiah. I'm tired of people finding new sports figures to compare him to, as if there is any way to compare them.

But most of all, I'm tired of seeing those stupid yellow bracelets. What is the point in wearing one? Should I start wearing a bracelet for any charity I help monitarily? It's so egotistical and faux-hip.

That is all for now.

  1. 1) Rant Score: 2/10
    2) I've never seen a single Lance Bracelet, must be regional
    3) People need heroes, and most people are idiots.
    4) Get over it.

Fixed and x2.

yeh, forgot the sarcasm tags for ppl rolling over in their graves

umm... you are entitled to your opinion, but leave the money where it was intended, for cancer research.
because research doesn't come free - it does take capital.

Torpid, STFU already. I could no longer take your idiocy so I skipped to the last page. Why do you care that people donate $1 to research cancer and in support, they wear a yellow bracelet?

Money alone won't find a cure. At least not the paltry amount the charities are making.
And bitching about this bracelet will? The foundation raised millions of dollars by selling these bracelets. Since when did millions equate to a "paltry amount"? Die in a fire already, moron.

I would agree with you if what you said was fully true.

However before i found out this was a cancer funded thing, I asked 6 people what it was, and they gave me "oh, friends gave it to me when i joined the rowing team" or "All my friends are wearing it"... thats what i disagree with - because these people are supposed to help expand this cancer program by knowing what it stands for, and telling people when they ask, so that others can also get involved.

Not true. They might not have donated at all. You can buy them in droves. The odds of you wearing 100 bracelets if you donate $100 is pretty slim.

Also, the odds of someone treating their bracelet as an amazing and incomprehensible gift to humanity seems pretty high based on what I have seen. Whatever pleasure is dervied from the thought of people spending money on cancer stuff is lost when I witness someone behaving like a pompous fool when they have the opportunity to discuss the bracelet.

I'm not all that worked up about it. It's just a monday morning rant.

Last time I was at American Eagle they asked me if I wanted to buy a *red* bracelet for 1 dollar. I was like WTF? Apparently the dollar would go to some other charity that AE supported. IMO, thats pretty low of AE to copy Lance's movement. Oh well.

Why would you admit to skipping to the last page and then ask a question that could be answered by not skipping to the last page? Now THAT is idiocy.

Millions, which is split into several portions going to various cancer related things, which is shadowed by the amount that is already going into cancer research. Money does help cancer research, but people who think that just having a bunch of money is going to cure cancer are sadly mistaken. We've had a decent amount of money for some time. The victims need money a lot more than the researchers.
