Just overhead on the local news that a deal is imminent that Randy Moss will be traded to the Vikings for a third round pick.

Bad move imho. He still draws the double team and the only receiver, outside of the Gronkowski with any height.

I wonder if his comments about it probably being his last year in New England have anything to do with this.

Doubt it. If the Patriots ship him off, it's the team getting back to the philosophy that won them 3 Super Bowls -- defense and an offense that is "death by a million little cuts." After the 2006 AFC Championship game loss to the Colts, the team clearly went balls-out on offense and, because of that and poor drafting, the defense has suffered.

Cold Hard Football Facts wanted the Pats to trade Randy last year and use the money to bring in defensive players.

Could totally see it happening considering they did the same thing with expiring contracts of Seymour, Branch, Samuel and maybe more people.

They keep on "building for the future" while pissing away their good current talent. It's just their MO. The problem is that it completely pisses off your current roster (e.g. Tom Brady) who is looking to win right now rather than building for years after their prime is past.

The Pats have always been about no player is bigger than the team and they'll ship away anyone who doesn't fit the owner's mold.

This would be a stupid move, since they'd probably get a 3rd round pick as compensation when they don't resign him this upcoming off-season.

Report: Randy Moss on trade block?
ESPN.com news services

The New England Patriots are in talks to trade wide receiver Randy Moss to the Minnesota Vikings, FoxSports.com reported on Tuesday, citing unnamed sources.

The deal is being held up because Moss would have to sign an extension with the Vikings, according to the report. The seven-time Pro Bowl receiver is in the final year of his four-year deal with New England and has voiced his displeasure at his limbo status.

"When you have done so much and put so much work in, it kind of feels like I am not wanted," Moss said on Sept. 6. "I am taking that in stride and playing my final year out and whatever the future holds is what it holds, but it is kind of a bad feeling -- feeling not wanted. It is not like my production has gone down."

A few days later he apologized for the timing of his comments and said he loves playing in New England.

Although the Patriots crushed the Dolphins on Monday night, Moss did not have a catch -- the first time that's happened for him in a New England uniform. The Foxsports.com report did not specify what the Patriots would get for giving up their primary deep threat.

Moss, 33, started his career with the Vikings after being taken in the first round of the 1998 draft. He led the league in touchdown receptions three times for Minnesota before heading to Oakland in 2005.

The Vikings have been looking for help at receiver for quarterback Brett Favre, but they were unable to work out a deal for the Chargers' Vincent Jackson.

P.s. Now that i actually read it, i'm not surprised at all. Vincent Wilfork anyone? The pats are known for ditching old players to desperate teams for first rounds picks. Hello? Anyone been watching sport center any time during the past like 4 years?

3rd pick is good for someone that they are not going to resign and is pissed as Moss knows it.

They signed Wilfork 5 yr / $40 million.

I think you mean Richard Seymour.

They clearly have no idea what they're doing.

If they're trading Moss for something they need (like another pass rusher), I completely understand the move.

Great, so if this goes through, the Vikings will have TWO potentially talented receivers who can't be bothered to actually try.

Bernard Berrian was such a fucking rip off. Most overpaid receiver in the league BY FAR.

I guess having Moss on the team would still represent a deep threat and he'd probably draw some of the secondary away from the others, but he's such a lazy ass. So that leaves Berrian (lazy), Camarillo (rookie), Lewis (average at best), Baskett (mediocre), Harvin (prone to migraines), and Shiancoe (a tight end).

If moss signed with the vikes, will he be wearing his old number 84 like he did when he played with them a few years back?

He can't use 81 since that is visanthe number, and 18 is sidney rice; maybe he will get his old number back #84.

He could probably convince their current #84 (some dude on the practice squad) to give it up. If he wanted it.

ESPN radio was saying that it was in the works. Unsure whether it was $$$ or draft pix that were the hold up.
