This can't be, the Righties in here are constantly saying because you have a half black President, racism does not exist in the US anymore.
The US is a huge melting pot except for them Muslims.
What do neighborhoods being split up along race lines have anything to do with racism being alive today? These "territories" could of formed awhile ago and people are just to stubborn to change things. This does nothing to prove or disprove racism in the USA. Nice try though Earl.
Assuming they were the majority and you were a minority being oppressed because of your race, then that would fit with his definition of racism.
It's like how here in Hawaii whites are a minority, and at public schools white kids get beat up for being white.
Exactly. Prejudice is merely judging someone before the fact - for whatever reason. And discrimination is an action, not an opinion. This definition of racism as something only possible to white people (and its inevitable corollary, that all white people are racist because of institutional racism) is a dangerous thing in our society.
However - Carmen does have a grain of truth in his statement, in that racism and discrimination by a minority is much less damaging than by a majority. At two different jobs I've heard the owner ask a supervisor "You didn't hire that ni@@er did you?" Since Saddam's Iraq and apartheid South Africa aside the majority of jobs will almost by definition be controlled by the majority, the effect of racism among the majority is more more significant. Racism in a minority can take away potential of employment among some jobs, but racism in the majority can take away potential of employment among many more jobs, maybe nearly all if it's widespread enough, the minority is small enough, and/or the disparity in wealth is enough. If a black-owner restaurant refuses to serve me because I am white, I have a huge number of restaurants left from which to choose. If all black-owner restaurants refuse to serve me because I am white, I still have a large number of restaurants left from which to choose. If on the other hand I am black and all white-owned restaurants refuse to serve me because I am black, I have a much more constrained choice of eateries. While I reject Carmen's definition, the relative power of the racism is undeniably way out of balance in effect between majority and minority.
His comment was stupid but at the same time there will always be divisions among groups of people. It could be race, religion or something else. It doesnt matter. These maps do show division in the country and thats not going to go away.
If someone were to draw up a map of Cairo Egypt for example im sure there would be two clusters present - 1 Muslim and 1 Christian. They are not holding hands and singing Kumbi ya obviously. Same deal in any other country with very few exceptions [homogeneous nations like Japan].
And formerly homogeneous countries like Sweden, Spain, Finland, Ireland etc also have clusters. The Muslims who are moving from the Middle east to Europe self segregate into their own communities and dont interact much with the native Europeans. Africa - to many examples to list. Its tribalism.
So if you're in a club full of 90% white people and you go to the bathroom and get your ass whooped on by two black guys, the only other people in there, it would be racist because they were the majority in their little section? That's silly. That definition holds no ground for racism.
I want to see what a real life black ghetto looks like. We don't have black people in Canada, and natives live on reserves, so I only ever see poor white people.
did you miss the pictures from haiti after the quake?
I don't get it either. It would make sense to keep white people red or pink, black would be black or brown, asian yellow.
Racial self-segregation is pretty normal. There's a part of Edmonton called Mill Woods that is probably 90% east indians. It's a middle class area, just like the surrounding areas. There's no financial reason for it to be an Indian part of town, but it is. People like to be with their own kind.
In 200 years none of this crap will matter. I think by then everyone will mix and look about like Tiger. Course we still have religion and class to deal with. And religious folks breed like crazy unfortunately so that problem will always be with us.

Idk...Latin America is made up mostly of mixed race people and yet racism is still present there. They are all mixed, but the more black or Indian you look the lower on the economic ladder you are [in general]. The more white you look the higher up you are. Just look at Mexico's leadership, going by the pics of them alone you would think Mexico was populated exclusively by Spaniards [white people].
