Played for about 45 mins... I like it. It runs fairly well, and the sides seem balanced enough. It's really wide open and you can go wherever you want which I like.

Looks pretty nice @ 2560x1600 4xAA 16xAF maxed :D, & is semi-playable (okay, 13 fps during firefights is kinda low :p).

Sadly, as i figured, it's really not the kinda game i like.

I frankly don't think i'll be bothering with this game.

UT3's vehekalz & mad pace will be more my style.

Does the audio sound like CRAP to anyone else? Especially the voices...horribly muddled no matter what side you are playing on..

I also find it annoying you can't cycle the weapons using the just mouse wheel...but have to actually CLICK the weapon you want when you get to it in the list. This is counter to every other FPS ever made..and really becomes a hassle.

That is what Battlefield series is like for me and my Mouse Wheel. I have had to do this since I started playing that series. I do admit, when I first came across this in that series it was annoying to get used to.

I played a few rounds against the AI last night, and found it to be excellent. I thought it built really well from the ET experience. I just wish you could trade in the paddles for the 'ols skool needle.

The rewards you get in game are not persistent.
During beta it was discussed and decided that it was better not to make them persistent since that gives long time players an advantage over people just joining the game.

Its not hard to get the rewards back. If your good you can do it in the first game of the round.

The game runs great and really shows off what opengl can do in a genre that is dominated by dx9 and dx10 me too games.

To see the fps in game edit the profile file with wordpad.
My Documents\id Software\Enemy Territory - QUAKE Wars Demo\sdnet\(players name)\base\profile.cfg

Change the line to read
seta com_showFPS "1"

The game is locked to 30fps by default.
To change that you have to add the following lines.

seta com_unlockFPS "1"
seta com_unlock_maxfps "60"
seta com_unlock_timingmethod "1"

I have mine set at 60 since my cpu is a bit slow.

Also make sure to change the texture settings in game.
The higher settings really do make a difference.

Thanx.

I couldn't figure out why i was stuck @ 30 fps...thought it was some kinda vsync glitch.

Thanks for the 30FPS tips guys, that was baffling me as well.

I played this for around 4 hours last night against bots and online. It's just OK I guess, I wasn't blown away and was expecting something a little more tactical or at least not so arcadish.
With the slew of new games coming out in the next few months I'm not sure I liked it enough to buy it.

After playing it a bit more, I still like it, but UT3 does sound like it will be better. I might simply wait until they're both out and make my decision then. I want to get a new graphics card in November too, so UT3 might be just the thing to test it out. Online shooters tend to be a bit rocky for the first month or so anyway (Battlefield 2 for example) - there are usually too few good servers and no one knows what to do.

I agree with everything you said. The sounds are garbage.

The weapon switching is why it feels antequated and sluggish to me. I like the fast paced style of Unreal Tournament vs this.

Well, the weapon switching was the same way in Battlefield 2, and you don't see many complaining. Of course, a Patch might have changed it since 5 months ago. Thats why I trained myself to be able to quickly press the number buttons, without losing control of my character.

any maps with vehicles in any fps = lame. when the modders get their hands on this, and make smaller and actually fun maps (w/ no vehicles), then this game will rock. they took it too far away from ET and too close to BF.

im looking forward to UT3 also. but if 1v1 sucks, then ill just keep playing quake

Well BF has no vehicle servers so I'm sure this will have them too. You have to admit though, the vehicles aren't overpowered and therefore aren't used as much as in BF2.

I just finished playing a three hours session with the Demo.

The first thing that really surprised me was the performance. At first I was like "ok, well, let's try a couple of settings at Medium first and set the res to 1024x768 because it's new and it might require a lot from my ages-old archaic machine". Well, with those "medium" settings I thought the graphics were decent, but I realized soon enough that I was running at a constant 30 or 40 fps without a single drop.

So I told myself "whoa, well ok let's try everything at highest it can be, let's add soft particles and the like, and let's increase the resolution to 1280x960, and let's add 16x A-F and 4x A-A". Well, yes, the performance dropped *some*, but that's the point, it never dropped "a lot", I STILL get 30 to 40 fps in most areas, with a FEW drops below the 25's here and there, although my system, except for the GPU, is quite old (at least on a gaming platform point of view). And at the highest settings I can safely say that it is the most beautiful OpenGL graphics I've ever seen. But despite being nice OGL graphics it certainly isn't as beautiful as current or future D3D9 games.

I like the weapons, the music (especially the music). It has an arcade-like feeling, mixed with some strategy. And, wow, the Bots guys, the BOTS are nice ! It took years and years but we finally get to see some very nicely done Bots right there. They can even complete objectives PROPERLY, how nice is that ? I mean they even WAIT for you and ASK you "need a ride ?" when they spot you (if they're in a vehicle). The Bots can PILOT aircrafts well, and the movements aren't just sudden turns, it's smooth curves in the air doing some cool maneuvers. I remember reading an interview with the guy who made the A.I Bots, that guy is ALONE, so he's most definitely a pro, my congrats goes to that guy for making the game cool even off-line.

It took me some time to get used to the weapons though, and trying to figure out what weapon does what and what were the proper counters to specific situations. Same thing goes with the structures that I THOUGHT I had to build when I saw their white wire-frame floating on the ground. At first I was like "ok hmmm ... what is this ?", "how do I build it ... and do I even have to ?", and then I figured out that stuff along with some other things (like how to use the Strogg jet-pack, or how one could call a vehicle and it'd drop from the sky like in Battlefield 2, although in a more "advanced" way).

So far I think that game has lots of potential, it's making me think I'm playing something like UT2004 with Stroggs and on Earth, literally (with better graphics too). I just wish that the physics weren't that ... hmmm, how can I say, "blocky" ? It just doesn't feel as sophisticated as Half-Life 2's Source physics (I think nothing does so far and since it was released). But, overall, it's a very solid game and is probably an infinite times better than Doom 3. Yup, I think id Software is back on track (I always thought they made nothing good since the original Quake, and perhaps Quake II).

I played it for about 3 hours last night. While I do most enjoy my WW2 settings, it was nice to see a fun different themed game come out. The first 20 minutes or so was pretty much just running around and going through the different classes to see what they did and try to test all the different weapons. I think the map was a good size, and since the spawn points seem to only be capturable in order, I don't know why someone would complain about map size as it turns into a series of small battles. Same goes with the vehicles, plop down an AT turret or toss an airstrike and watch them go away. Not to mention was taking out flyers with a measly assault rifle or that the man carried rocket launch gets a targeting lock that makes it an almost guaranteed hit.

It does seem to run fairly well while maintaining very good visuals without latest series graphic cards. Although I think drivers may also matter as on one of my comps a zoomed window was looking a bit pixilated while on another it was clear.

And I do love the alien sniper's flying bomb   :)

I think the performance of the game is one of the things it has going for it.
It may not have ultra graphics but what it does have looks good and its very playable.

I will definitely be purchasing the game when its released.

HL let you set "fast weapon switch" which didn't require the click.

i don't know if ETQW has it. sad thing is, i played the beta and i don't know

Yikes.
