Played for about 5 - 10 minutes and had a hard time getting into it... I am sure part of it is that i need to learn the difference in controls over the battlefield series (since that is about the only game like that I have played)

honestly, i think that's what makes ETQW so great graphically - not necessarily the best looking, certainly not crysis, but it's pretty damn flexible since it's D3 based.

Decent game. You just have to play around until you pick it up. There is notutorial which the game could have used.

I have been reading around and some 8800 users have been experiencing some choppiness in their FPS. I have had this myself.

You can pick up the basics playing againts the bots offline, rather than the clusterfuck games I played in last night. It was hopeless. I was the only one on our team who knew what to do, the other team had at least 4 so I was screwed. I tried telling people what to do but it was more fun for them to shoot a tree or kill each other :| I need to find a decent server ASAP.

Does the audio sound like CRAP to anyone else? Especially the voices...horribly muddled no matter what side you are playing on..
I also find it annoying you can't cycle the weapons using the just mouse wheel...but have to actually CLICK the weapon you want when you get to it in the list. This is counter to every other FPS ever made..and really becomes a hassle.
I agree with everything you said. The sounds are garbage.
The weapon switching is why it feels antequated and sluggish to me. I like the fast paced style of Unreal Tournament vs this.
Well, the weapon switching was the same way in Battlefield 2, and you don't see many complaining. Of course, a Patch might have changed it since 5 months ago. Thats why I trained myself to be able to quickly press the number buttons, without losing control of my character.

I suppose "running like butter" depends on how high you need your framerate to be for good play. I'm running at 1680x1050 on medium with my 6800 GS. It plays fine most of the time, although when it's really hectic it can slow down a lot.

8800gtx and I'm getting really bad performance... sub 30fps @ 1920x1200
in UT2k4 I get great performance with everything turned up @ same res.
I even changed the profile.cfg file as suggested above with no improvement.
running xp pro, A64 X2 3800+ with 2GB ram.
help!
also, do you have to install punkbusta? I wonder why it has to run as a service all the time even when the game isn't running? what kind of info is being stolen and sent back to mothership?

Be aware that you're comparing a Direct3D (UT2004) game running with DX8, with a recent OpenGL game. Don't be surprised to get great performance in a 3-4 years-old DirectX 8.1 game with a GPU released in 2006 ... sometimes I get to wonder if gamers actually know when the games they are playing were created and what technology they use to render it on-screen.
It's comparable to saying something like: "Hey, I got a GTX and I don't understand why Half-Life 1 runs much better than Crysis, please help !" ...
