You need to be playing online to get 60fps. If your playing on your machine you are limited to 30fps, no way around it that I know of.

in UT2k4 I get great performance with everything turned up @ same res.

I even changed the profile.cfg file as suggested above with no improvement.

running xp pro, A64 X2 3800+ with 2GB ram.

help!

also, do you have to install punkbusta? I wonder why it has to run as a service all the time even when the game isn't running? what kind of info is being stolen and sent back to mothership?

Be aware that you're comparing a Direct3D (UT2004) game running with DX8, with a recent OpenGL game. Don't be surprised to get great performance in a 3-4 years-old DirectX 8.1 game with a GPU released in 2006 ... sometimes I get to wonder if gamers actually know when the games they are playing were created and what technology they use to render it on-screen.

It's comparable to saying something like: "Hey, I got a GTX and I don't understand why Half-Life 1 runs much better than Crysis, please help !" ...

ya but others have been getting close to 60fps with my card so I'm just wondering why mine performs sub par...thanks for your wonderful suggestion, that really fixed my problem...

What version of nvidia drivers are you running?

I'm using my GTX at 1920-1200 and minus AA maxed out its lightning quick even with AAx2 which didn't look to improve *that* much there isn't a great hit on performance

I am running a C2D @ 2.7ghz with an X1900GT and 4g Ram. My res is 1680x1050 on my Acer 22".

I really want to like this game but there are a few things in the way that really make me frustrated. I will say I love Day of Defeat and its source brother. I loved BF 1942 and UT99. I liked the game play of UT2003/4 but not really the quake 3 meets candy land graphics. I hated Battlefield 2 and everything the original Enemy Territory stood for. I don't like needed to get XP and rank in an online FPS. I did love Quake 4 and these QW graphics really impress me for a fast paced online shooter.

That out of the way I will now say what I absolutely despise about this game.

1) Enemy markers. What the *%($. How can I be a covert ops and provide cover to my team if I have this red triangle over my head? Worst feature EVER.

2) Um? Aiming. It is very fluky. I tend to hit things dead on when I don't aim. When I do aim... I might be getting 30%. Maybe it is too like BF2 for me to just 'get.' I admit I haven't gotten any stuff past what you start with.

3) Hacking Bodies. While this is actually quite *fun* it just seems a bit gimmicky. It also makes the battlefield have a 3rd Dimension that I just don't think it needs. Why have objectives when it will spawn a series of identity theft for knife kills? There has got to be some balance to this before it ruins the game. Maybe this will be enforced via gamer-made admin mods.

4) Vehicle HP is too fluky. Tanks get owned too fast.

5) Graphic options do little to nothing for me. I can run everything maxed pretty much if not on high. I was getting a bit laggy in close range fights with a bunch of people so I turned down my graphics. Not only was the graphics barely differentiated... but I didn't get any performance boost. I'll keep tweaking on this front.

6) Medics. The point? Yeah its nice to be able to heal myself but nearly everyone will and IS just respawning at checkpoints. Might as well give the strogg a medic class and just give light bandage powers to all the Human classes since they are far more likely to get owned in the face.

7) I thought the Strogg and the Humans were going to be set apart by their damage profiles? As it stands now, the only reason why I'd go Strogg is for the Rail gun or if I want to pilot a Mech. Other than that... tom-ay-to, tom-ah-toe.

What I do like about the game? Everything else so far. You'll probably read about that stuff in the Biased gaming media.

1) markers are over you only if you're within the scan area of a radar. hack the radar or throw an EMP grenade at it (or have someone else disable it). also, steal an enemy's identity.

2) i seem to do ok with aiming, dunno what to tell ya

3) im confused what you're trying to say

4) vehicles aren't meant to be uber like they are in BF. the only ones that are a real PITA are the goliath and the icarus. namely the icarus.

5) video card limits maybe? an x1900GT is good, but definitely not top of the line

6) medics for GDF have instant revive - very useful for pushing objectives. supply crates dole out health and ammo on the front line.

strogg medics (constructor i think) can create spawn hosts for instant respawns instead of waiting for the next wave (great for inside areas) and can heal/resupply ammo. can also revive but it isn't instant like the GDF medic

7) there are some minute differences that i'm sure are readily apparent on the clan-level of gameplay, but otherwise my guess is the majority of people will play both sides similarly.

1) IMO this shouldn't even be in the game neither should their 'counters' which imo are pretty stupid. Radar on an FPS is horid unless done well. The last game to have a radar done well... was the motion sensor in AvP which was a necessary gimmick.

2) Yes this could be 'my' experience with the game. I am no noob to FPS and can lay down the pain in BF1942/UT/Quake 3/4 online/CS:S/DoD:S but I don't and refuse to play BF2 and the latest crap from EA. I just find it hard to track things in this game due to to a few things.

3) Stealing identities is by far the godaweful feature of this game. Yes it is insanely fun. Yes I do it. But, to the detriment of the game on the whole, this will be the new age awp-like craze. Won't be a bother for clan and pro play but on pubs ... well... i don't see it improving gameplay and a half dozen of the servers I've been to have been seeing people abuse it.

4) They respawn pretty fast but die easy. Not exactly the balance I'd hope for. Especially when a rail gun can snipe your mechanics pretty easy.

5) Its a pretty fast card. I don't need top of the line to play my games. I surely am not going to drop 350 bucks to play one game. It runs fine as it is... I'd just like to see it go from fast to faster when I downgrade the settings. That is... the whole point to downgrading your settings. It irks me that people dumb down their res to compete at these games. Maybe turning down the res will help too, but that is another blow to WideScreen gaming =(

6) I have only seen people use GDC's for self healing or dropping things to check out how it works then switch to a covops and go identity stealing.

7) Yes this game will be a hit to the clan-level play who want to compete. For pubs... well... this game could be epic or just another BF2.

it runs decent on my 6600gt. the game is fun, but very confusing as there is no tutorial. i think i understood some of it by playing against bots.

Runs great on my system (sig). I am really getting hooked on this thing. Sucks when your teammates are idiots though.

Unfortunatley the bots are incredibly "stupid" at times... :(

Game is fun..but I definitely need to upgrade soon... :)

That happens every time. I am running in to plant the explosives and the idiots are all out there flying planes and shooting rockets, like that stuff matters once the plant is breached.

i had one match where i literally could not get out of the base (after setting up the MCP). my teammates were such morons. strogg were all over the place, in our base setting up little tents to camp in. desecrators, infiltrators galore. talk about getting pwned :(

It is definitely hard for GDF, when the Strogg, are all constructors and they set AVT and APT at the tunnel and base while mining and repairing at the same time ... I love it...

It takes a lot more than a few hours to get all the tactics and positions down...

After 10 hours of playing all team positions and flyers , I really started having fun....

I didn't quite like it, very arcade like, it's just to fast. for example medics are useless.

it looks like a frag all hope for the best type of game. I can play ET for 6 hours and still have fun but 20 min. of this and i'm done.

I've been playing Wolf and ET since day 1 and Sorry but this is no ET

that's like saying any of the classes are useless: it simply isn't the case. perhaps you played with shitty medics?

I think what he means by medics are useless is: Medics are useless because almost everyone dies out in the open, and whatever killed them is most likely still there. By the time you get there, you are either sniped, shot, blown up, person releases for the next wave, or you revive him and both get mowed down in the open since you revive at half health. Kind of unbalanced though where GDF medics can revive instantly and Strogg medics take like 3-5 seconds to revive.

Of course you do get that occasional revive where no one is around or they die behind a building or something. Problem is you really only get EXP for reviving, never for actually healing people with the medic packs.

That being said, the game is fun. I prefer the covert ops guys that can summon the artillery turrets and then basically nuke different areas. Strogg are the best simply because you can put up a shield and then do it. Only thing I hate about the game is, lots of people just play around and never really seem to go for the objective. That and the fact I seem to find myself yelling for a radar in every game though... :\

I can't believe how smooth this game is. With a GeForce 7950 I can run the game at 1280x1024 with 16x AF and 8x AA, and all of the graphics set to high.

As for gameplay, yeah it's a bit too fast. Every gun seems to kill in 1 or 2 shots, then respawn time is ~20 seconds. Even if I've had a good game and I'm third place on my team, I've easily spent 80% of my time waiting to respawn. That's a lot more frustrating than Counter-Strike ever was.

Although, the strogg corpse spawn points are amazing.

have two field ops drop airstrike on the cluster of turrets. airstrike comes across perpendicular to the throw of the airstrike can.

so with two fop's you can take out ~3 turrets per airstrike by lining it up across the perpendicular when u throw the can.

wait for airstrike then move out of tunnel. it's not hard.. you just need team work.

Anybody else having choppiness with the 8800 series? My framerate is extremely jumpy, anywhere from 70FPS to 19FPS. And even at 70FPS the game doesn't feel smooth on my machine. When the shooting starts my framerate drops. My settings are on everything at the highest, 1280 x 1024, 4xAA and 16xAF.

I downloaded it an installed it. The mouse cursor automatically goes to the top of the screen, and continues to do so. Uninstalled, reinstalled, same thing, what's the deal?
