Just do a google search for Sony, Anonymous, and Geohot.
Geohot is a famous hacker who loves to work just this side of the law. He created a legal way to hack the playstation. Others took his hack and expanded it into a way to pirate games. Sony took Geohot to court and although he technically didn't do anything illegal he settled out of court with them in an agreement not to mess with their equipment again.
That was all good and well, but then Anonymous hacked Sony's servers with a denial of service attack just to show they didn't appreciate Sony throwing its legal muscle around. Despite Anonymous's success Sony didn't bother to close the security hole before sicking their lawyers after everyone that had pirated one of their games. Next thing you know they've been hacked again, credit card numbers stolen, and billions of dollars in lost business.
Anonymous denies responsibility for the second attack, but none of the credit card numbers have shown up on the market. The obvious conclusion is that if it wasn't Anonymous it was someone else, possibly people they targeted for piracy, that just wanted revenge. Sony not only left themselves wide open, but then proceeded to piss off countless hackers. That's about as stupid as it gets in my book.
