Anybody want to apologize now for calling people paranoid and alarmist? You have a 24-hour amnesty period where you will not be berated. :p

Meh, still waiting for a price drop on slims. I'm not going to stop using my PS3.

I just won't be doing anymore online commerce with Sony or it's affiliates.

Good god, this just keeps getting worse. In the next round of the console wars this isn't going to do Sony any favors. Hopefully this doesn't affect things too much.

I only got the BTTF game a few Months ago. I am sure I didn't select any remember card option and my card has expired since then....However....

Should I cancel my card and get another one or what? Then again I have been thinking of switching banks too....Hrmm....

Gotta wonder if the new SOE problems will have any effect of getting PSN back online this week as planned.

It shouldn't as they're two entirely different entities but maybe it could as they'll analyze what happened with SOE and change some thing with PSN.

Awesome. Not only did I have a PS3 on the PSN network, but I played SOE MMOs in the past. I am done with Sony. As we move forward everything is going to be connected to a network, and I will be damned if I am going to give them any more of my hard earned cash.

there is a theory that this is an inside job... since sony fired about 200 people from their online division about a few days before the psn attack. or rather, gave them 2 week notice... and they are expected to "work" for 2 weeks before they leave.

Yeah, it just has me wondering if Sony will say something like, "Crap we don't know if we've got everything covered. We better hold off a couple of more days to make sure we've got everything straight."

If this were to turn out to be true, then I would actually cut Sony some slack. There's nothing you can do with assholes who work on the systems and are creating the problem. Maybe Sony didn't treat them right, but that's no excuse.

Not really, even this would be Sony taking the cheap way out. If you lay off a large number of people who have given several years of their life to your company; you lay them off on a Friday, revoke their passwords and logins on Thursday night, and you pay them to not work for 2 weeks to avoid them sabotaging your operations.

Eh, I see it differently. If it were to be the actions of specific people, they are the ones responsible, not necessarily Sony as a whole. I will respectfully disagree with you. :)

What Golgatha described is standard practice for any employer. If one or more of Sony's employees are responsible for this then Sony as a corporation does deserve some of the blame for this as well. A corporation can't close it eyes and then claim it has no responsibility for the bad actions of its employees. (That's what hiring independent third-party companies is for...)

i can imagine selling someone the admin passwords, but doing it yourself is dumb. Sony will call in the FBI and it's easy to track down who broke in. it's not like your IP is some random number

and if they can prove you caused this then sony can sue you and ruin you financially for life

If you think about it, the class action lawsuit will probably ask for the damages described in standard ID theft cases. If the plaintiff (PSN users) asked for said damages and used the metrics given of between $300-400 of cost to society, it would mean Sony essentially owes you the amount you paid for your PS3 to begin with! That would be ruinous for them...of course, Joe Shmoe would only see about 1/2 of that after legal costs and such, that is still a lot of $$$.

they will probably get away with id theft services that they will buy in bulk and at a much lower rate and a coupon for a few months of service.

what exactly are your damages if no one stole your data?
