So they're giving everyone a free month trial to their subscription service? That's laughable to me.

Give me FF7 or Chrono Trigger and we'll call it even Sony.
The problem is any PSN games that free only for PS+ members will be rendered useless when the free month is over. Discounted games will still be fine, though.

My power company gives away free appliances whenever the power goes down
No matter what happens, you'll still need/want power and you can't defect to another provider.
Nice try, though.
Not at all, I simply don't have the expectation that Sony OWES me anything for being attacked by an outside entity. In addition, electricity is vital, gaming is not. I find the incessant crying about Sony owing us anything (except PERHAPS PS+ users). I don't intend to "defect" to another provider either, those that want to, certainly have the choice to do so.
Just bizarre how this could happen to such a large tech/electronics company O.O
Sorry, but nobody is saying Sony owes them anything, only that they better make it a good freebie if they want it to have any effect. The fact of the matter is that Sony has direct competition in this market. They'll try to give out a freebie or two to appease everyone. We're just saying it better be good. As you said, everybody has the choice to go elsewhere if they choose to. I'm sure Sony wants to keep that from happening.
The guy at Gamestop in the mall nearby said that he's seen a steady stream of people trading in their PS3's to buy Xbox360s, because of the PSN outage.

Sony didn't owe anyone anything when it was only a service downtime. Since that wasn't the case and actual data was taken, user data which Sony was expected to protect, they owe everyone who uses the service something.
Well, it sucks but better safe than sorry. I cancelled my Amex Blue card I had tied to PSN and will be using prepurchased cards from here on out. Can we please go back to the days before DLC and downloadable games now?!
You completely canceled your amex card b/c of the PSN thing?![]()
Dear Valued SOE Customers,
We have had to take the SOE service down temporarily. In the course of our investigation into the intrusion into our systems we have discovered an issue that warrants enough concern for us to take the service down effective immediately. We will provide an update later today (Monday).
We apologize for any inconvenience and greatly appreciate your patience.
So now Sony Online Entertainment is down, perhaps their MMORPG services have been compromised as well?

My thought is that likely SOE's services had the same vulnerability as PSN, so they took it down before it could be compromised.
