Awesome. Not only did I have a PS3 on the PSN network, but I played SOE MMOs in the past. I am done with Sony. As we move forward everything is going to be connected to a network, and I will be damned if I am going to give them any more of my hard earned cash.

If this were to turn out to be true, then I would actually cut Sony some slack. There's nothing you can do with assholes who work on the systems and are creating the problem. Maybe Sony didn't treat them right, but that's no excuse.

Not really, even this would be Sony taking the cheap way out. If you lay off a large number of people who have given several years of their life to your company; you lay them off on a Friday, revoke their passwords and logins on Thursday night, and you pay them to not work for 2 weeks to avoid them sabotaging your operations.

Eh, I see it differently. If it were to be the actions of specific people, they are the ones responsible, not necessarily Sony as a whole. I will respectfully disagree with you.

What Golgatha described is standard practice for any employer. If one or more of Sony's employees are responsible for this then Sony as a corporation does deserve some of the blame for this as well. A corporation can't close it eyes and then claim it has no responsibility for the bad actions of its employees. (That's what hiring independent third-party companies is for...)

i can imagine selling someone the admin passwords, but doing it yourself is dumb. Sony will call in the FBI and it's easy to track down who broke in. it's not like your IP is some random number

and if they can prove you caused this then sony can sue you and ruin you financially for life

If you think about it, the class action lawsuit will probably ask for the damages described in standard ID theft cases. If the plaintiff (PSN users) asked for said damages and used the metrics given of between $300-400 of cost to society, it would mean Sony essentially owes you the amount you paid for your PS3 to begin with! That would be ruinous for them...of course, Joe Shmoe would only see about 1/2 of that after legal costs and such, that is still a lot of $$$.
