Unfortunately my money is on the GOP getting what they want in the end-straight party line votes in both the House (along one or two Dems may stray) and Senate, resulting in an acquittal for Trump. The GOP will sell this to the nonpolitical junkies as a purely partisan endeavor.

The Dems would be absolute fools to let this go politically after they lose in the Senate. They should run informative ads over and over showing the true facts, the obstructionism, contradictory lies of Trump's surrogates, the corruption involved and the fact that it is up to the voters to pass judgment on Trump for the future of the USA. Given the weak field of Dem candidates things are looking dark IMO.

It seems odd to describe a field of candidates as weak when the current front runner is crushing Trump by somewhere around double digits in head to head polls.

Now polls this far out of course aren't that predictive but if a situation like that is 'dark' what does a bright situation look like?

I will say that Senate Republicans have been shockingly quiet through all of this. I wouldn't necessarily bank on the house shitshow ending up the same way in Senate.

If you asked me three weeks ago, I would have said 99% they wouldn't vote yes on impeachment. Now? more like 80%.

They’re being quiet because they can’t deny the evidence using the guise of being jurors to keep quiet. They will vote in lockstep to acquit with maybe one exception ,Romney.
 
I can’t understand why some democrat doesn’t ask why trump won’t release the full transcript of the call, are they that braindead? It could be a game changer .

Speaking as a solid Democratic voter for nearly fifty years, I must confess that not a single one of the current crop excites me to any significant degree. Warren is & will be a great and very effective Senator, but she alienates a lot of people. Bernie has his fanbase, but he has been a nearly totally ineffective Senator. Biden's age is showing to his detriment. I like Booker and Duvall but neither has caught on with the public. Bloomberg I could accept. The rest, frankly, are basically VP fodder.

None of this group comes close to being able to generate voter enthusiasm like Bill Clinton, Obama or even Kerry (who Scrub beat rather handily). I know what the polls say now, but I'm expecting those margins to evaporate once we get near election.

While I can't speak to your personal circumstances I suspect the kind of candidate that excites people like you and me is probably not the candidate best positioned to win in 2020. The person you want for that is the person who can win over the Obama -> Trump voters and who engages low propensity Democratic voters (ie: black and Hispanic people). While he's not my personal choice I think Biden would be a formidable general election candidate.

That being said I agree with you that it's unlikely Biden will win the election by 10+ points because partisanship will reassert itself to some extent.
 
Castor sounds weak and evasive while he's being questioned.

But... the shit dems are pulling with designating their counsel as a witness and not a staffer to begin with (so he can impugn Trump) and then reversing that later (so he doesn't need to be sworn in and doesn't need to be questioned and can himself cross the aisle and do the questioning) without addressing the conflict just reeks of corruption and abusing their house majority -- which happens to be one of the main Republican talking points.

Which side wins today's hearing will be largely based on how well those competing narratives are sold. Weak Castor vs. dem shenanigans.
