Ultimately, all Trump really has is "yeah, I did it, what you gonna do about it?" though he'll try to keep claiming he didn't do it.

They're employing the throw it at a wall and see what sticks approach. They also are arguing that no one has used the word bribery. They seem to think that crimes are not crimes if you don't use the magic words; it's not murder unless you say murder during the shooting. They're fortunate in that their base and Americans just not paying attention are so uninformed.

The Trump defense being offered at the moment is: Well maybe there was a super secret FBI investigation going on about Biden in Ukraine, and it's up to the Democrats to prove that this secret investigation did not exist."

And..Their strategy seems to be a collective "The hearings are reallly boring. The public is realllly bored of the hearings. Why are they wasting their time with this. It's soooo boring."
Or in other words "nothing to see here! move along! move along!"

I don't think there are any circumstances in which enough Republican senators will put country first. I think 1-2 other GOP senators will vote for impeachment and maybe 1-2 others will abstain in some way.

At this point, I think the value is that we are a)establishing the historical record and b) making it clear to the world and ourselves that there are still Americans who believe in rule of law and democracy. I think that there is also value in forcing the GOP to go on record that they support this kind of lawlessness.

Once a Democrat tries pulling this same shit they will care about it.

Listening to Hill's testimony, I thought initially that Dr. Hill was trying to deflect blame away from Trump in those quotes. "Don't you see? This [impeachment hearing] is exactly what they want! You're playing into their hands!" As though we should all ignore what Trump did for the good of the country. Or...she's saying, "Trump is such a fucking idiot that HE played right into Putin's hands and the resulting chaos and divisiveness is exactly what Putin wanted." IOW Putin played the Trump/Guliani like a fucking Stradivarius.

After reading every word of her closed door testimony...IMO this is exactly what she is saying.

This was engineered by Russia. The Ukrainian conspiracy theory and the documents Rudy had been waving around are Russian disinformation. Fruman and Parnas are Russian agents.

The Russia / Ukraine war is serious high stakes endeavor and the energy security of Western Europe is at stake. Getting the US to waiver in their support of Ukraine is a key foreign policy goal of Russia. People don’t think of Russia as a petrostate, but, as far as I know... it is the worlds second largest oil exporter (behind Saudi Arabia) and the largest natural gas exporter.

It’s about so much more than that phone call. One of the goals of the Trump/Giuliani scheme was to replace the board of directors at Naftogaz, another Ukrainian gas company. This change was being pushed by Rudy Giuliani and the two Russian agents.

This may be where the story is, because US foreign policy actively encourages Ukrainian companies to put Westerners on their boards, it’s part of the effort to clean up corruption by strengthening corporate governance. If Trump and Giuliani were looking to subvert that by plotting to put “friends of Putin” on the board, I'm sure that might be a high crime.

Yep, this is exactly what's happening.

And right on cue, Trump actually admits on national TV to doing the thing he's been accused of doing:
"They have the server, right, from the DNC, Democratic National Committee," Trump said. "The FBI went in and they told them, get out of here, we're not giving it to you. They gave the server to CrowdStrike or whatever it's called, which is a country — which is a company owned by a very wealthy Ukrainian. And I still want to see that server. You know, the FBI's never gotten that server. That's a big part of this whole thing. Why did they give it to a Ukrainian company?"

The cohost Steve Doocy, appearing to anticipate the path Trump was going down, asked incredulously: "Are you sure they did that? Are you sure they gave it to Ukraine?"

"Well, that's what the word is. That what I asked, actually, in my phone call," he said, referring to his July 25 conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky that's the focus of the whistleblower complaint that sparked the impeachment inquiry.

Then, critically, the president added: "I mean, I asked it very point-blank, because we're looking for corruption. There's tremendous corruption. Why should we be giving hundreds of millions of dollars to countries when there's this kind of corruption?"

The last sentence in your quote is interesting..

"Then, critically, the president added: "I mean, I asked it very point-blank, because we're looking for corruption. There's tremendous corruption. Why should we be giving hundreds of millions of dollars to countries when there's this kind of corruption?" "

I was listening to NPR 2 days ago they talked about that... cliff notes.. Ukraine did have corruption issues, but they took steps to minimize or stop the corruption and it passed the US's standards for corruption prevention.

Yeah, that was a known thing.. it's actually what Biden got accomplished a while back, when he pressured Ukraine to get rid of their existing DA (or whatever they call it there). He wasn't hard enough on eliminating this crap so the US pressured them to toss that guy, and get a better one in, so they did. And it's generated good changes.

Am I the only person to see that's one dinky dow bugfuck crazy conspiracy theory? How did we get to a place where some people are fine with that coming from our President? What happened to America?

No, rational people know it too. Irrational people still support him and are fine with it, and I'm sure they'd say the same thing about me. I think that if this has all proven anything, it's that reality itself is entirely subjective. There's no such thing as objective reality.

Huh, on a whim I googled it, and apparently it's even scientifically observed. Guess I'll go back to planting trees now and wait for the apocalypse.

I understand that most people have a vested interest in numero uno, but I'd imagine the same people that don't really care/follow impeachment proceedings probably don't care/follow the markets. As long as day-to-day needs are met, they're good, and the rest is old rich white dudes doing old rich white dude shit. So who the hell is currently changing their minds? the 5% of 'independents' who are easily swayed by Republican talking points?

Eh, I can only speak from my circles, but I definitely can think of those that follow the market and their money closely and only follow politics somewhat.

Even my own father voted T after voting for Obama twice. He absolutely follows the market closely, but seems to look the way on all Trump's bullshit.

Basically responds he voted for him to "shake things up and that's what he's doing."

I press just asking WTF that even means, but I can't get a straightforward answer.

I don't get it. Can't be sure he wouldn't vote for him in 20, despite the attempts to cut the Medicare/SS they depend on.

Mom fucking hates his ass tho so at least there is that.

I really don't get it, and I've yet to hear anyone clearly explain it.

Just like these forums, Trump supporters can never clearly articulate a good explanation of what they see in him or his actions. Just nonsense and feelings.

Maybe it's just that. Logic just doesn't apply here and it only makes sense in the animal brain.

Sounds like my family: "he says what needed to be said" which I interpret to mean screw the gays, eff the foreigners seeking a better life, and fuck the libtards.

I think dems need to take a page out of the GOP book.. don't impeach but pound it in everyday at the top of your lungs like bengazi. Make sure that's the narrative..

And oh make student loans of any and all kind free at the cost of wealth tax.

Well I hope there comes this moment in time where the Repubs will declare that they did all they could to shield Trump from being held accountable for those crimes he committed both in and out of office but the damage to their chances of getting reelected was too great a burden to bear.

So now that I've got my wishful thinking out of the way, I wonder if the damage to the Repub's reelectivity is greater if they hang in there with Trump or cut him loose. Seems like a lose lose prop to me.

I'm sure that decision is being weighed every time Trump says, does or tweets something more stupid than the one he blurted the moment before.

It's quite simple really.. in their all mighty wisdom Obama somehow soiled the presidency with his tan suit.. and so anything Obama was.. they want the opposite. Doesn't matter if its good or bad, its has to be complete opposite of Obama.

As retarded as fuck as that sounds, that's the bottom line.

Sounds like my family: "he says what needed to be said" which I interpret to mean screw the gays, eff the foreigners seeking a better life, and fuck the libtards.

Well in my particular case, my extended family is very large and diverse, and my dad and other Trump voting relatives are not motivated by racism or homophobia. Not particular partisan. Still skeptical on conservative looking Muslims... But that's about it.

Voted for Obama, liked Obama. Voted Trump, like Trump.

Q:Why?
A: "Shaking things up"

Q: WTH does that even mean? He's a fraudster and a liar. Don't tell me you buy his bullshit..
A: "Well,... all politicians are corrupt and lie.... But.. I do think somebody needed to confront China. They are ripping us off"

Q: He hasn't tho. Read the news. Trade war is a mess and it's costing us actual money. He hasn't delivered on anything. It's all fake!
A: "Shaking things up"

Q: What? WTF?!
A: Well Broncos are still losing, but the new coach looks good. Hopefully he can turn it around and win next year. Flacco is no good tho, he needs to go.

Nothing on the substance of the hearings? Besides the occasional snark you people (“conservatives”) have gone completely silent. Have you learned anything new since the hearings began? Is the defense of Trump one that still makes sense to you?

Appears to be nothing but feelings, assumptions and suppositions.
