Part of the problem with a guild leadership is that a lot of guilds are completely useless. Your guild could have 400 people, but you've never accomplished a single useful thing. Your guild could have 5 people, but you've got the top 5 pvp players in the game with extremely good teamwork (although teamwork would be more impressive in an FPS). When you've got a guild spread across multiple time zones and you've instituted an effective DKP system and you've got people working together flawlessly and tackling content, yes you are doing a damn good job, probably better than 90% of the project managers I've dealt with, in fact, easily better. I knew some guilds in Everquest that were really run like a freaking organization. It's no surprise that guild leaders from EQ ended up working jobs in the gaming world.

Hell, there are many things I'm personally proud of that I've accomplished. But you'll never, ever see me put any of that shit on my resume. It's not because I'm embarrassed, it's because I realize the common person reading and evaluating this paper will either have negative preconceived notions or they simply won't know what the hell I'm talking about.

This.

Generally speaking, the art of leadership is getting a group of people to work together as a team in order to accomplish a common goal. Successful guilds, clans, etc in video games almost always contain people who are natural leaders in other "real life" activities or at least have very good organizational skills.

Besides, all one needs to do is look around at all of the absolutely worthless douche bags who are placed in management positions in all sorts of businesses. Ya, they know the job sometimes but they are terrible leaders. These same people put down their experience on their resume and it is looked upon very highly due to position title and job responsibilities yet they completely suck ass. All it goes to show is that you cannot judge a book by its cover.
