PSA: DO NOT put some things on your resume

I have just been told of a resume being reviewed by a friend of mine for their start-up company. His company is a very small Apple development shop and they need some low level programmers to do some grunt coding and QA.

The resume has under leadership skills, "Guild Leader -- 2004 to present" and then lists what they do as such. At first (because I'm old!) I thought he was talking about being in one of those Renaissance Faires but then I had to be told by my younger friends that 2004 was the release year for WoW.

They are afraid to interview this kid because they won't be able to keep a straight face in the interview.

I used to laugh at the people who said gaming could affect real-life. Until I just read that. Very sad.

Amazing. I'd better take off my "Leeroy Jenkins impersonation" out of my list of skills

Usually, the raid leader has more leadership abilities. When they speak on Ventrilo, they are very clear, no um's or ugh's, and are typically very good speakers.

The guild leader just pays for the web server and Bentrilo server.

I'd ask for a link to the guilds website, see how accomplished they are and go from there :)

Hmm, this makes the time spent getting achievements in TF2 seem much more valuable. :D

i didn't know you could put this kind of stuff in a resume, I should put the time I got to level 79 on duck hunt...that shows perseverance, patience, and I'm a good shot

Those just imply you are a nerd. Anything to do with "WoW" implies that you are a fat and pale outcast, afraid of real human contact, that lives in his mom's basement. And putting anything about a video game on a resume implies that you are a fucking moron.

What makes sports captain any better? huh?

edit = This is fine on the resume. It's better than nothing, and it's just as good as being a captain on a sport team or having a job at retail blah blah.
