Well it looks like this console is for rich ppl which I am not. I feel sorry for the ppl that give $500-$600 for it and it get disc read errors or who knows what in the first 3-6 months of normal use. Sony has yet to release a console without this problem at launch and I don't see it changing.
I'll wait for the $199 price tag and for the system to mature.
Like a $400 360 has been flawless? 😉

Plus, think about the cost of reg blu-ray players. Most of them are going to be in the $600+ range anyways. So for the cost of a blu-ray player you get a game console along with it.
Whatever it takes to justify $600 😀
And at least the PS3 should last 5 yrs or so. Unlike these high-end graphic cards that can only deliver high end graphics for 1-2 yrs before you need to spend another $500-600 to get the latest greatest graphics.
Not knocking it, just pointing out the huge diff price wise between PC and console gaming.
Now if someone can figure out a way to get mouse/kyb for console FPS gaming I would be on cloud 9. And not JoyFrag, I mean a real implementation from the devs.
Like I said in the other thread, who gives a shat about Blu Ray. When can I expect to realistically see Blu Ray content out?
you dont get much of a BLU ray player with out HDMI connection

For the record the Wii controller can detect it's potion in 3D space. The PS3 controller can only detect "tilt" motion. Not quite the same, likely caused by all the patents Nintendo filed.
All that matters is implementation. I can't wait for Nintendo coverage.

oh and by the way, NONE of the ps3 controllers have vibration, but they do have that tilt movement thingy. i read a quote somewhere that "vibration was last generation. movement is next generation." something like that.

Urgh, don't you realize many other people can come up with just as many times MS has lied and as many reasons not to buy Xbox360? Same goes with the Wii, the PC, and all the other systems out there.

Ok,
Microsoft has lied about their products before, but what have they lied about in terms of the Xbox 360? Especially ones as blatant as Sony and the PS3... I'm talking game consoles here, the next-gens?
Phil Harrison has spoken to the BBC news site, defending the company's decision to release two versions of PS3 and countering claims that the cheaper model will not be High Definition. As mentioned on Technology Blog yesterday, specs sheets released to journalists at the pre-E3 Sony conference revealed that the cheapie PS3 lacks Wi-Fi, memory card slot and, crucially, an HDMI port. However, Harrison claims:
"What we should be clear about is that the functionality is identical in both machines... It's just that the technical method of extracting audio and video from the devices is slightly different"
Harrison doesn't talk about the amends made to the top-end package, though. One HDMI slot, not two. Four USB ports, not six. One ethernet port, not three. Of course, it is often the case that final console hardware fails to match the exact specifications of the prototype, but Sony has been bullish about the wider entertainment abilities of the machine. PS3 is, after all, the company's Trojan Horse for Blu-ray technology. Yet with its home entertainment options reduced, it may be less desirable to those crucial early adopters who pore over specs with religious intensity.

HD will never be required to play a game ring a bell? After people openly laughed at that lie they got indignant and very forcefully lied some more about it- this while they KNEW that at least two games were nearing completion that REQUIRED the HD to play.
Also- $399 MSRP? Yeah, if you are looking for vapourware. I ended up paying about $600 for my 360- retail- because I had to piece one together because MS supposedly can't build them fast enough(heh, considering I was able to buy all the parts at once without issue....).
When Sony launches the PS3 they will be walking right in to Halo3......
All games will run with 4x AA all the time- another big lie by MS.
'Always on Live!'... not even close. Besides the fact that they are selling hardware with horrific tendencies to run way too hot, even if you left your 360 on all the time it will auto log you off after a certain amount of time. Live! certainly isn't the kind of always connected device that MS lied to us and told us it was.
Should we go into MS's prerendered footage that they love to show off so much? You checked out the Forza video clip on Live! as but one example?
How about widespread availability by the end of March for all SKUs? Sure...... March of '08 maybe.
Stolen idea- controller is a wannabe wavebird without a doubt.
IBM CPU paired with an ATi GPU using eDRAM to prop up our rasterizer..... that's original 😛
Another stolen idea- that button in the middle of the controller- it has been there on Nin and Sony systems since the mid 90s. Functionality may be a bit different, but it certainly is a clear steal on MS parts from the older crowd.
All of that aside though- with the exception of Oblivion- why would anyone want to buy a 360 right now? I'm curious to know. I've bought every game that looks remotely decent for the system and outside of one they are very far removed from warranting the purchase of a new console, they aren't even close actually.
You could have waited it out.
In an interview with Japanese website IT Media, partially translated by IGN, Kutaragi said: "This is the PS3 price. Expensive, cheap - we don't want you to think of it in terms of game machines."
"For instance," Kutaragi continued, "Is it not nonsense to compare the charge for dinner at the company cafeteria with dinner at a fine restaurant? It's a question of what you can do with that game machine. If you can have an amazing experience, we believe price is not a problem."
Kutaragi reiterated comments he made earlier regarding the original PlayStation, which he says was also considered too expensive at launch.
