I wonder what % of the population was just excluded from owning a PS3 at that price point. I know that when I was a kid my parents would have laughed if I asked them to pay that kind of money for a game system. 'Go outside and play football with your brother!'. Of course we did that anyway...

rather meaningless number. its like the fact that you can play even dos games from decades ago on a pc. but so what? you didn't buy a brand new expensive system to waste your time on that. its more a gimmic that actually useful.
as for tilt controller. welcome to 6 years ago http://www.joystickreview.com/microsoft/sidewinderfreestylepro.asp
its silly and awkward anyways. think stress positions/guantonamo bay
the crippled systemcan't be upgraded to premium level, and that just makes it a piece of garbage. the real price of this sh*t is 600 dollars for anyone serious. you are spending 500 dollars on a crippled system, you aren't saving money at all.
sony=riaa+mpaa! stay away!
atleast microsoft does'nt sue its customers.
with so many *GOOD* ps2 games out there ( many foreign) , it is a valid point compare to the original xbox's few *good* games.
also, I believe xbox360 is unable to play original xbox games w/o software emulation aka harddrive and is not 100% compatible.
ps2 games are not from decades ago, they are more like a dx8 game vs dx9 game.
controller depends on preference.

The demographic that the developers have been aiming for has been the 18-35 for years now.

For the record the Wii controller can detect it's potion in 3D space. The PS3 controller can only detect "tilt" motion. Not quite the same, likely caused by all the patents Nintendo filed.

I think the real time graphics for FFXIII beat everything out there.

I don't know why so many people are so surprise at the price. Every analyst and article has been predicting this pricepoint for the last year.

I seriously doubt those are real time.
It wouldn't be the first time Sony/Square show fake, prerendered CGI and try to pass it off as Real Time scenes.
A collective gasp was heard in the audience when the movie went from what appeared to be pre-rendered footage to a full set of menus indicating that nearly everything we saw was made using the in-game engine. We were then taken through a series of environments ranging from futuristic cities to dense jungles. All of them were lushly detailed with plenty going on in both the character's immediate vicinity and in the background.

Like I said in the other thread, who gives a shat about Blu Ray. When can I expect to realistically see Blu Ray content out? Probably on the tail end of this contraptions life cycle.
The graphics wont be much different between ported games. The ability to do 1080p is cute but what % of the sets out there are capable? I am guessing < .01% so that is pointless feature.
For 600 bucks I can build myself a 2 TB raid array and store all that HD content from HD on demand from my DVR.

Personally, I just can't believe it's actually come to this. My NES cost $80 new, and it came with TWO controllers! Then again, I'm an old(er) fart who remembers paying $150 for a RIVA 128 and thinking that was high dollar. How people stomach $500-$700 video cards is beyond me...

Well it looks like this console is for rich ppl which I am not. I feel sorry for the ppl that give $500-$600 for it and it get disc read errors or who knows what in the first 3-6 months of normal use. Sony has yet to release a console without this problem at launch and I don't see it changing.
I'll wait for the $199 price tag and for the system to mature.
