When did the Xbox 360 become easily available - March of 2006 after a November 2005 launch? I'm thinking April or May 2007 is when those of us who don't care to camp out over the weekend in line for a unit will be able to purchase a PS3.

Microsoft had a second shipment ready a couple of weeks after launch. By Christmas I don't even think they were selling at inflated prices on eBay.

heh, they were. i sold 2 of em for close to $900 around xmas.

Yeah, the inflated prices didn't end until after Christmas....almost into February/March.

I got mine from Amazon.com. I didn't have to stand in line or anything.

MS had a shortage, but it was nothing like what PS3 is going to experiencing.

Atleast you could do a pre-order for MS months ahead of time. Where can you pre-order a PS3? That's a huge sign they are having problems.

With all of the manufacturing problems, I'd begin to wonder about hardware stability over the long term.

who wants to place a bet on when Sony will go bankrupt? they keep and doing this and with more and more and more bad news, the stockholders are getting extremely annoyed.

edit: the delay of the european launch will give Toshiba even more time and ground to ship it's HD-DVD.

Err I doubt they're going bankrupt anytime soon. But can't wait to see the price gouging that's gonna happen with these consoles. If only 500,000 are gonna be available for the Holiday season and the rest of the world aren't getting consoles till March, i'm willing to bet that we won't be seeing additional shipments for at least a couple months after the holidays. $3000 PS3's anyone? 🙂

i'm guessing you'll only be able to buy bundles with 4 games and 3 crappy off brand accessories that you don't want

I expect massive profit from ebay resales.

If I had a supplier where I could get a couple of units, I'd be all over it. There are enough fanboys/early adopters to create a huge shortage (especially with the shrinking supply), even with the underwhelming reports about the system coming in.
fixed

I think they just want to bundle the system with Duke Nukem Forever, to show off that new graphics engine of theirs!

Hahaha best response yet.

not suprised to be honest

i bet all the kit doesnt fit in that bread bin chassis they designed either

ebay is gonna be the place to be, if your a seller.

i'll bet theres people here in the UK who'd pay over £1000 for a PS3 in november, and when that £1000 is converted back to dollars.. your ****** laughing all the way to the bank

time to set up a duff auction that actually says "PS3 promotional Poster" an hope some idiot pays over the odds thinkin its a PS3

People in the US will easily pay $2000 for a PS3 with the predicted shortages; this situation will be even worse than the XBOX 360 shortages.

Sony will have no problem selling out, but the big question is how many units will the in stock XBOX 360 and Wii sell?

How many parents are gonna scoff at Sony and buy the 360 or Wii instead just based on price/avaliability.

You mean the same parents that scoffed at Microsoft and didn't pay $800-$1600+ for the 360 on eBay? 😉

The initial release is not about the practical buyers.

Wow, you really have to feel sorry for the third party software developers. Nothing like spending $10+ million to develop a game for launch and find out that there will be at most 500,000 machines available for it to run on.

Even with expanded shipments over the next year, I imagine that most developers will be losing quite a bit of money creating games for the PS3.

Yuki you will have no luck through this method
Did I say I was gonna buy one? No, I'm just going to do like the article suggested and beat someone to death as they come out of the store.

lol ... fixed for how early you are really going to have to get in line.

No matter how you slice it, this is very bad news for Sony. Analysts in Japan are already predicting that the extreme shortages (only 100k units at launch) will give the already popular Wii a big headstart during the holiday season. That, plus the $170 pricetag on the Wii, means that Sony and Nintendo are predicted to stay about even in hardware sales for most of this generation.

Not launching in Europe during the holidays is going to cost PS3 software developers an estimated $140 million in lost software sales.

What a disaster for Sony and people who actually wanted to play a PS3 this year.

hm, how can we get one for sure at launch? i want to ebay one now. lol.

Just be the first in line at a store. For the XBOX 360, that meant waiting about 9-12 hours. For the PS3, I think people might be in line 24+ hours in advance.

In Japan, yes; the US price is still up in the air, but should be ~$200, give or take.

can i get a source for that official wii price

*I didn't see anything on IGN from GC2006 about price points.
