Oddly enough, a Google search on 'christian honor killings Finland' brings up only stories about Muslim honor killings. As far as religion being evil and working against social change like getting rid of honor killing, honor killings are on the rise in Europe as Europe gets less Christian - and purely coincidentally I'm sure, more Islamic.

There's a minority called the Kale or Romani who are Christian. They have a cultural tradition of blood feud which is a form of honour killing. In blood feud if another family kills a member of another family, the family whose member was killed, can kill a member of the other family to regain their honour. They are in an endless cycle of violence and murdering of each other. To ease off the killing they've silently agreed that two families can't live in the same area. When they are critised of this tradition death threats and even violence are common. I say this is a cultural tradition. Am I defending Christianity? Shit happens regardless of religion and you're not defending the religion in question if you acknowledge this fact.

Interesting to see people defending Islam by calling such practices "cultural" so soon after the Sultan of Brunei imposed Sharia on his nation. Brunei became officially Islamic in the fifteenth century, when Christianity also was a fairly brutal religion. Christianity has since mellowed considerably, but within Islam it's always the seventh century. Within that same area we have the even smaller but similarly wealthy predominantly Buddhist Singapore and the larger but somewhat poorer predominantly Christian Philippines. Given their preference and equivalent economic status I doubt anyone here would prefer to live in Brunei of the three.

We should just use the same excuses then, the family must be put to death because we have a Christian culture and the bible allows for an eye for an eye.

Its really encouraging to see how Pakistani govt is handling it. Not only did it move quickly to arrest the father and brother and its still on the heels of others. Seems like its not just a symbolic arrests. Encouraging development in the right direction for that society.

The society has to discourage these behaviors first and these incidents will go down, looks like that is happening. Remember, children and killed by their parents, girls are enslaved, women are treated like slaved living a 2nd class lives and forced into polygamy even in the 1st world countries, its just that its not supported by the society in general. If the society in general, in the 3rd world countries, denounce such behaviors, it should be considered a step in the right directions.

Mellowed? Did you stop to think a bit on that? Who were the ones inventing nuclear weapons to annihilate all of humanity? Who were the ones developing ICBMS? Who were the ones thinking of new ways of mass murdering humanity? Christians. (So-called Christians). These guys aren't done yet. Their reign of destruction on this planet is not over, not even close.

But everyone is a Christian or a Muslim now. Show up to Church, or Mosque, wear your cross or hijab and you are a Christian or Muslim.

You are defending the religion when you attempt to establish a fake equivalency, yes. Some people are killed by drunk drivers; some people are killed by electrocution from badly wired drinking fountains. Yet drinking fountains are not remotely equivalent killers even though undeniably, some people get electrocuted by them.
