I am going to tell you going up against a boat OWNER is going to be interesting for you.

A 30 footer is a bit more than a typical 'pleasure' boat...you paying by the hour is going to set a pretty interesting 'case'.

Like I said though it's not always fair.

What does rental have to do with anything? It is quite obvious that I know more about the rules of boating than he does.

I'm not going up against anyone. I didn't report it, although, I'm thinking now that maybe I should have.

Where is the cut off for what makes a larger boat?

I am clearly wrong in a arena of those that play textbook examples.

Like I said 9 times out of 10 the larger boat is right. Likewise he who owns the boat.

Coast guard doesn't care for renters.

Limited maneuverability...it's in the regulations.

Nowhere in the regulations does it give preference to boat owners over boat renters. I've been sailing since I was 5 years old, never owned a boat of my own.

You're so full of shit. Unless hindered by water depth or channel width, a 60 foot offshore fishing vessel legally will have to heed way to a 10' sunfish sailboat under sail. 9 times out of 10 the sailboat is in deeper water than the powerboat requires because of the keel which is usually lower on a sailboat than it is on a similar sized powerboat.

They mean boats that cannot turn quickly, think oil tanker, cruise ship, container cargo ships, ect. It is completely irrelevant if the power boat is '30,'35,'40, you are required to yield to a vessel under sail. Oh, I forgot, since it involved a rented craft maritime right of way rules are null and void.

Most of them.
I think people should have a boating license. I've boated with people that couldn't run a can opener much less a boat.

Up here in Canada a license is required, though, it is easy to get. It does tend to weed out the lazy fucktards though.

The guy who brought up rental boats is true though, they are fucktards.

Fixed that for you before Alky calls you out.

In reality the rules of the sea is smaller vessels need to get the f out of the way of a larger one.

May not seem fair, but the seas still have not been pussified.

Not really. A sail boat always has right of way under sail. Even an oil tanker has to yield.

Wow, Alky continued claiming he was right in another thread? He really, really, can never admit when he's been proven wrong. And, in the other thread, he claimed that the people pointing out these rules don't have boats?! LOL - that's why the people in this thread DO know the rules - we have boats, Alky has a bar stool.
