Sandia Mountains, just outside of Albuquerque NM, I am here for about 5 weeks for training and she came to visit me over the weekend. With her we were at the restaurant that claims to be at 10,378 feet up. We took the tram up, operator claimed the highest point was 982 feet above the ground, or an 8 second drop. The week prior I hiked it... starts out about 6k, ends up just over 10k feet up, 8 miles long hike. Little hard to breath on the way up. Starts out pretty smooth, ends up just huge boulders and switch backs. Not an easy hike. But having a drink at the end is like 2x as strong.

Few pics, no idea why some are at a 90, can't figure out how to change it. Some of hiking, of me being an idiot way up on some rocks that was definitely not safe, some of the tram. This and the food is all ABQ has going for it. Other than that its a shit hole. Can't wait to go home. Did meet some UFC fighters, a lot train here because of the altitude. Met Holly Holmes at a grocery store, Oberveen us staying in our hotel and fights soon. Some other guys and girls. Training here gives you more cardio when you go to a lower altitude. I run pretty quick, day 1 mile was about a minute slower than normal, just cant breath when 6k up very well. Class started with 17 of us, down to 6, most failed out. Come back home Sept 1st, the day college football starts!

If you like those kinds of hikes you should do the Barr Trail at Pikes Peak. From you description of that one I would call the Barr trail the big Brother to that one. Did it in 2008 with no acclimation time. Locals said we shouldn't have been able to but we did. Starting to get up there in years and had a couple health problems since then but hoping to get back in shape and do it again and then maybe do a rim to rim at the grand canyon. Here's me and the former Mrs at 14,114 at Pikes peak Via the Barr trail.

I run so that I can *not be* healthy.

Yesterday I made a loaded potato soup that consisted of 2 pounds of potatoes, 1 pound of bacon, 1 pound of cheese, half a pound of ham, half a pound of butter, a tub of sour cream and enough salt to preserve the career of Hillary Clinton.

:D

So they wouldn't let you stand on the platform because you'd be taller than the #1 guy?

And how did you lose to the toddler? :raz:

same reason I was a runner, up to a 10k before some health issues sidelined me for a year. Getting back into it sucks. It really, really sucks, but I like pizza and ice cream too much to not do it.

I do enjoy hiking, not running. I detest 5k, 10k's, etc. Just running on a road forever is boring. I do Tough Mudders, Spartan races, hiking mountains, etc. Something with a little running and obstacles in-between which is fun. Get muddy then they have beer stands for after. Doing another in ATL in April. Did one in Nashville and it was terrible, so many damn hills. I literally had to crawl up one, so steep and slick, and I was exhausted. I had enough being made to run all the damn time with the Marine Corps, never again of my own free will.

That is pretty damn high there. Higher than I ever went. I was just in Albuquerque for work, no desire to go back. Locally I hike the Smokies, which has some pretty good trails. Waterfalls, scenery, and some pretty tough treks. I don't get to go as much as I would like, but the wife and kids like to as well, so we go together. Next year I will be carrying a baby on my back too, yay. Just more leg exercise which is always good.

I'm in Michigan so the Smokies are a bit of a trip for me. I will be heading to The Porcupine Mountains Wilderness are in the Western Upper Peninsula for a week next summer for a few days of tuneup day hikes. The lake of the Clouds escarpment trail is a pretty good one. If all goes well and I am hitting my training goals I will start planning for a Sept trip to do the Barr Trail again and make campsite reservations for the Rim To Rim in 2018. Just need to find a trekking partner for the Barr Trail.

Yea it is pretty high. Once you break above the tree line the altitude starts becoming a big challenge. You have to stop to catch your breath with increasing frequency as the rate of ascent and the altitude increase. I think we were literally stopping every 20 yards or so there at the very end. Felt damn good to finish it though. wasn't at all boring like a run would be. Every completed leg felt like a win on the way up. Most physically demanding thing I have probably ever done.

So this thread is no longer a thread with photos of p&n posters, but just pictures of stuff happening in your life?
