I live in Berkeley, CA. It's going to be different if you live in Alaska or South Florida. But here in late June (summer equinox) it's light at 5AM and getting dark by 9:15PM. Now ask yourself if you prefer it be be light at 4AM and getting dark at 8:15PM. You probably said "no." See, Daylight Savings Time gets you more light during the hours you actually want to be able to do things in the light outdoors. Stop grumbling.

in Alaska it's pretty pointless. In summer it's going to be light out no matter what time your clock says, in winter it's dark no matter what time the clock says.

one way or the other. Make a decision. ridiculous people insist on endless fiddling with the time to suit them selves.

It's a big pain at work. All of our equipment bases calculations on the actual time. We have to idle hundreds of machines, some with multiple servers and PLC's that all need to have the time manually updated. If we don't, it goes out of synch with what has been updated, (servers etc. that aren't on equipment do automatically update). Can't configure to have the time change automatically on the equipement, because it causes the software to crash on some of them.

Time is arbitrary anyway, so how about we make it so that sunset is at 10PM every single day. When the sun goes down, BAM, it's 10PM, sync your watches. When it goes down the next day, BAM, that's 10PM, re-sync. That way we'll always have light in the evenings. Win-win! Granted, there will be a few months there where the sun won't rise until well after noon, but who gives a shit; it's light out until 10PM every damn day!

That's an interesting proposition. It meets my requirement of being tied to the sun, and stable from a human perspective. It would also be easy to account for with clocks, although legacy devices wouldn't work. I'd be willing to try it for awhile.

I think its pointless and should be stopped, but I'd settle for congress just not fucking with it anymore in their feeble efforts to appear to be doing something. I'm still pissed about that and I'm sure it was an economic net loss to the entire country.

It's still pitch black in the morning when I go to work and it's still pitch black when I get out of work, unless we start changing the clocks by several hours, it's not going to change that fact and I sure as hell would not want to do that.

Unless you work more than 12 hours a day, each and every work day, (remember you said pitch black), I think you may wish to revisit this statement of your.

I'd be fine with the time we're on now (DST), staying year round, but I don't care either way. Most of my clocks adjust themselves except for the microwave and the clock in my car. Two look a total of maybe 45 seconds to change them both. Big whoop.

Who cares when the sun comes up? Let's just "fall back" an hour every other month; this will eliminate the need for leap day :).

I don't know ANYBODY who doesn't think this is so damn stupid. And there are literally billions of people who don't do it. Somebody in Congress needs to put forward legislation to be done with this sh*t. Keep us on summer time and be done with it.

it's up to the state, brah...Arizona doesn't participate.

I hate daylight savings time. I hate it a lot. Waking up an hour early every day for 6 months sucks. I have a hard enough time crawling out of bed at the crazy early hour of 8 to be in the office by 9, getting out of bed at 7 (when the clock says it's 8 because it's evil) is a miserable existence.

I wish I could have a normal internal clock, one that made me tired at night instead of in the morning.

Leave it alone. The USA can't afford the billions of dollars it will take for congress to debate on the merits of changing it all to decide they will take it up again next session.

Only for the past month or so has there been light after 5:00pm so yeah, my statement is right not counting this month and going forward till next Sept-Oct or so.

So I don't see the point of changing the clock to get more light when it only makes a difference for a month at most. Sunset is at like 5:00ish for the majority of Winter.

Depends on where you live. For those daylight savings was created for, it's a big difference.

Why don't we move work to the dark times? Say, move time every few months so that the sun always goes down between 6 and 7.

Why have time-zones that intersect with lines of latitude when we can also have them that intersect lines of longitude?

Grid pattern the whole thing off and make sure everyone gets at-least an hour of sun a day after work.

Well one of the biggest issues would be people are not productive usually when it's dark out.

As far as time zones and latitude/longitude, do you understand why we have time zones to begin with and how they work?
