Because they always felt embarassed to be in it :Q

Uh no.
According to them they never felt safe in the car, too small. They all drove SUVs.
My fiancee hated it because you could never carry anything in it and when we started dating it was my only car.

Actually it's a very safe car. It's so low that SUVs just drive over you 😀

What's up with big people driving around in that little car??
There's nothing wrong with big people in spandex, or bathing suits at the beach either.....(I know it's your right and all... but for the love of my eye sights, no more pllllleeeeaaseeeeee, I beg.)

Need an option for "Does not fall under manly nor chick car". Its like a go-kart, anyone can drive one and have a lot of fun with it.

Being involved in your driving, shifting gears manually, listening to the engine, responding to the road, taking a curve at high speed, are all typically "manly" things to do with a car. It just so happens that the Miata also does these things VERY well.

Women treat cars like appliances. Miatas are NOT an appliance. They are for pure driving fun. How is that not manly?

Much too small to be comfortable, plus I'd never be able to carry some of the things I carry routinely in my Accord (my rifle). Viper GTS
Why do you call it a chick car? 60+% of Miata buyers are male.
Of that percentage, how many are "metrosexual"?

The Miata is hardly a chick car.

New Beetle: chick car
VW Cabriolet: chick car

Other cars I have a hard time classifying as m/f

V6 Mustang - Chick car, esp. if its a convertible.
Same goes for a V6 Camaro.

That's like saying "Putting on work clothes, getting in the dirt, filth and sweat all over you, working under the hot beatnig sun. These are manly - oh, but wait you're planting daffodils."

I wouldn't pop in my Haddaway CD & blare out "What is Love" in one with the top down, but I wouldn't mind owning one either.

It's a remake of the classic Brit sports car, but it needs a supercharger & taller gears for me.

Uh huh, and what percentage of other cars do you think are male buyers? Much higher I'd bet. Reason? It's more likely that in a marriage the guy will have the car on his name. I don't have numbers, but I would be shocked if that isn't signifcantly the case. So, let's say that 70% of v6 accord buyers are male (even if their wife drives it), but only 60% of miatas are - well that shows a big lean from women.

It's a nice car - it's still no masculine. This isn't based on studies or laws, but general impressions - impressions that this poll is backing up. It's subjective opinion. If you're in a miata you have to realize a lot of guys won't think you're that manly. If that others you don't drive one. If it doesn't, go for it.

something like 60% of all cars are bought by women, and women have a say in most of the rest

100% of VW Beetle buyers could be male, that doesn't change the fact that it looks like a car geared towards women

Skoorb, I believe you have that analogy completely backwards.

Surprised to see no mention of the car's size, I can't imagine anyone over about 5'8" being even close to comfortable in one. It's like one of those miniature cars from FAO Schwartz in terms of size. I'm only 6'1" and I've never had a more painful car experience (including being in a pretty bad accident) than contorting myself to fit in a Miata 😛 Hard to be a mens' car when most cant' even fit in one.
