Taking Skoorb's suggestion, this is to justify the "manliness" stature of the poor Miata.

It's a chick car.

Note that being a chick car does not preclude it being fun to drive or handling well.

I had high hopes for the MazdaSpeed Miata, but it's still too anemic for my tastes.

Of course when it comes down to it I could never drive a Miata. Much too small to be comfortable, plus I'd never be able to carry some of the things I carry routinely in my Accord (my rifle).

There is nothing wrong with miatas. They are not "chick" cars. I've seen more guys driving them than chicks.

Ive owned three. Man or no man I love the car! I get at least 10 compliments a day from all people of all races, sexes and ages.

In between those three miatas I owned a 2000 ranger which didnt get anyones attention. Thats why owned it only 6 months.

Wouldn't say it's manly, but I'd definitely drive one. I'm not that insecure.
It's not the most practical thing in the world but almost anyone who drives one enjoys it, provided they fit into it. :p Seriously, I read tons of car mags etc. and you rarely, if ever, see a negative review of the MX-5.

Plus, if you're really THAT worried about it, there are lots of exterior mods out there for the Miata if you think it looks "girly". I think it has a pretty classic shape, myself.

The second-gen ones are not nearly as girly as the originals. The Miata is a really fun car to drive, and if I could fit into it, I would think in a serious way about a Mazdaspeed Miata as a second car.

That poll is uber-annoying.

Why do you call it a chick car? 60+% of Miata buyers are male.

I should also mention that my latest one was bought in February. Will put pics up soon. I painted the brake rotors silver this weekend (were kind of rusty colored - not anymore!). I also put a custom grill on the front in March for $140.00

Of that percentage, how many are "metrosexual"?

This juts in..... 59.9% of miata owners are gay. Margin or error .1% ;)

But they are OK cars, just not enough power and the looks keep getting more female style.
Example, the HOPE to be NEW pontiac is KINDA like the miata, but has a more power look and a supercharged engine does not hurt either. I would drive that all day long stock, but the miata needs help.

The Miata is one of the kings of the cones, people. Small, lightweight, and RWD.

The Miata is hardly a chick car.

New Beetle: chick car
VW Cabriolet: chick car

Other cars I have a hard time classifying as m/f

Throw one of those luggage racks on the trunk like classic roadsters have and it ups the manliness 37.6%. It's pretty manly to say "Not only can it go fast, have the top come down and pick up chicks, but it can carry my suitcases!"

On second thought, that's not that manly, but I think roadsters still look better with the rack.

I was a Miata owner, best car I ever owned, it always managed to put a smile on my face and it was atomic, nothing ever broke on it for me.

And I am a man.
I never felt girlish or wimpy driving the car. If anything my girlfriends were the ones who disliked it.

It's not studly or butch. Just a pleasant well engineered car for top down driving.

It falls in the same class of car, though much improved, as the Fiat 124 Spyder or the MGB.

You don't own one to impress ppl. It's about having fun.
