Well, the posts that motivated me to make this thread did not distinguish them, so I did not think about that. Also, logically, it would be quite hard to prove what one's religion was if they did not want to admit it in the face of a government round-up.

I posted this in the other thread but it was ignored & now I see even more talk about internment camps! I vote NO. I have heard one on this forum say not to question his patriotism because he served in Vietnam. That's well and good but one's service in Vietnam does not give the right to deny the patriotism of others. That's what I say... as a Vietnam era vet and a disabled Desert Storm vet...so, here's my thoughts again:

I am middle eastern in ancestry and I look exactly like my late Jordanian parents. I was born and raised here though and am 100% American. I am a medically retired US Army Medical Corps officer - top graduate of many of the US Army's top schools. You however are suggesting it would be OK for me to be interned?
Would you like every member of government of middle eastern ancestry removed from office, from civil service, from the military and interned?
You suggest my daughter should be jerked out of college & interned? You'd better come steal the DFC out of my curio cabinet, my commission off my wall, my step-son's west point sword as you try to do it.... but you should also realize that the moment you try to do that you destroy all that we stand for as a nation..

I hope internment is never used. Just as I hope no harm comes to you or your family because of the ancestory you share. But that cannot be guarenteed. That is the reality that has been foisted upon all of us under the name of Allah by the likes of Osama ans Saddam. I will say this one more time for your benifit.
It is incumbant upon all middle eastern muslum people who are offended by the actions of 09/11 to state loudly and cleaerly their disdain , to there neighbors and anyone who will here them. Write letters to your newspaper. Write letters to my newspaper. Make it clear your feelings and position so that there can be no mistake you are against the actions of these terrorists that have besmearched your good name and standing.
Those that do not heed this call, will be fair game to those who are seeking to find middle eastern people to persecute, or perhaps even worse, as some irrational people have done to blacks here in the US. I have already sited the caliber of people that are capable of this by relating the true story of that black man drug to his derath chained to the bumper of a pick up truck driven by some red neck ass holes who thought they were doing society a favor. Damn it. This is reality. There are people sitting around plotting a away to hurt a middle eastern person probably right now as you read this. And no doubt a middle eastern person is licking the stamp on the next anthrax infected envelope.
Internment is not a pleasent thought, but it has been done before and could happen again. I will re state the sceneroio that would do it.Suitcase nuke detonted in a major city,and I guarentee, all people of middle eastern decent who are innocent will beg for protection. That would be in an internment camp.
That is the climate we are in. That is the things think tanks dream up, and then report those options and scenerios to government and military leaders.
I have an Iraqi neighbor. The nicest man you would want to know. Much of what I say is based on his fears and concerns as well. These are hard and trying times for him and people like him. I wouldn't support these camps and I don't think they'll ever happen. Too much bad PR for the government. Instead, they'll continue what they're now doing. Quietly going around and detaining people without due process. It's already happened to hundreds in a short span of time and will probably increase as times goes on. It's easier that way. It only happens to selected individuals and takes alot of time to get the word out about what's really happening so the public maintains it's sense of still being "free" and having "civil liberties".
