We all see the comercials where Kobe Bryant is held up like some sort of basketball God. On the other hand, I have only seen one comercial with AI (it was really cool though). Why does Kobe get so much more publicity than Iverson?
We all know what happened the last time the Lakers and Sixers met: Kobe was limited to 18 pts while Iverson ran a way with 40. And the Sixers didn't even have their All-Star Center. Iverson is WAY ahead of anyone else in the MVP race. While Kobe is throwing hissy fits with Phil Jackson.
So, let your voice be heard. Who is the Best player in the NBA.

kobe has size and strength over iverson. the little guy is lightning quick
but he takes so many shots. worse than mj, so his scoring average is a bit
inflated. and while kobe may throw an occasional ego tantrum, at least he
has enough sense not to rap like some chump wannabe gangsta. kobe also
happens to be infinitely more articulate with the enlglish language,
and can speak fluent italian.

Iverson takes way too many shots, and has a poor field goal percentage.

Pfahahah, Your whole post was well informed up until this point. Kobe's getting into Rap as well, and he has been in a few tracks before. How's that for your chump wannabe gangsta?

I appreciate Iverson more for his style of play. Unfortunatly I can't provide a lot of input because I start watching the NBA after the All-Star game (I seem to do this every year). Just can't seem to get into basketball during Oct./Nov. (i.e. still football season...).

Here are some stats straight from NBA.com:

Kobe:
PPG: 29.8 FG%: .465 3P%: .316 Total Pts:1521
Iverson:
PPg: 30.4 FG%: .425 3P%: .327 Total Pts:1583

Both are tied for most FG made, which reflects Kobe's slightly better FG%. Iverson is ranked #1 in steals (2.44spg) which shows he is also a defensive presence as well.
I find it difficult to believe that some people can actually argue for Kobe.

i think those stats explain themselves pretty well. considering that kobe can't be a one-man show, he still does pretty well. but iverson, since he's basically a one-man team (since the rest of his team basically sucks), i would expect him to do better anyways. for some reason i'm thinking of counter-strike. you could either:

1) go fragging by yourself. you'll get more kills, but the team won't be all too great.

2) be a team player. your frags may not be all that great, but you'll help out your team in the long run.

i'd say iverson would be choice number 1, while kobe's the latter.

You also left out that Kobe is a better free throw shooter, has more rebounds, equal in assists, has more blocked shots, less turnovers, and 2 tripple doubles. I highly doubt Iverson can take Kobe on 1 on 1. Against Kobe, Iverson has had 1 good game and 3 horrible ones.

An ignorant statement. The Sixers have been winning games without Geiger, Snow, Iverson, and they are now 4-0 without allstar center Theo Ratliff.

Although I'm a lakers fan, I'm sick of Kobe's crap, he's selfish with the ball and is trying to win a championship by himself rather than doing the Kobe/Shaq combo that won them the finals last year.

I'm for Iverson

They have put they're squabbles behind them since the allstar break and thier record hasn't improved. What I don't understand is with all that speed and those killer crossover's Iverson has, he doesn't take advantage and try to get more assists a game. That's being selfish.

what makes this wierd is that Jordan constantly put up 40 points a game and was never considered a selfish player, but these new guys like Kobe and Iverson... they get 40 points and it's like they're a ball hog.. what's with that? Wilt Chaimberlan scored 100pts in one game, was that a selfish effort? what defines Selfish?

If anyone khas ever heard Iverson talk on camera, you would know why he doesn't get as much publicity. He speaks like a 12 year old. Iverson has had his fame all along with those Reebok "The Answer" shoes he has had, Kobe is just getting his now.

Selfish - When someone takes alot of shots and doesn't even make an average percentage of them.

This season, I officially joined the iverson bandwagon. He is the league MVP right now, probably the best player in the league right now as well. Bear in mind that Iverson doesn't get as many calls as Kobe and that when he is fouled, he is nailed pretty hard.

That being said, I still like Kobe more and think that he is the better player, but Iverson is up there and what he's doing with the sixers is pretty amazing.

Iverson is the MVP right now though. I'm just curious if he can maintain his level of play for the rest of the season and into the playoffs.

Oh, and the whole thing with Shaq and Phil has been blown way out of proportion.

Playing skills, I was just commenting that having a shoe out doesn't make you good. And having ugly shoes out makes you look like a fool :) Someone mentioned Rings as well, which does NOT define a thing IMO. Look at Marino, one of the best QBs ever, and he never got a ring in his life. Did he suck? Nope, he just never caught his break

Kobe also has Shaq on his team who scores 30ppg. Iverson is a one man show taking all the shots so of course he'll have more PPG.
