Gladiator is a ripoff of Spartacus, and isn't as good. Just try watching it. Both movies are inspired by Spartacus, but Braveheart more so. But if I had to pick between the 2 I'd pick Braveheart because it has more gratidous killing in it.

Spartacus is definitely a better story than Gladiator.

But Gladiator was done so well that I can watch it everytime it's on the satellite. I've probably seen it over 30 times, now. 3 or 4 times at the theater, twice in one day when I bought the DVD.

I have Braveheart, also, and thoroughly love it. But it doesn't have the script, effects, or exceptional acting, IMO. I think Gladiator was cast much better than Braveheart. Joaquin Phoenix made an excellent nemesis.

I much preferred Braveheart. It just seemed more intelligent and better thought-out thatn Gladiator. Also, I tend to like movies set in the middle ages, so that gave Braveheart an edge.

Like both movies...I dont really think that it is a fair comparison. One is supposed to be based on a true story, where the other is total fiction. I liked them both for different reasons. I voted for Gladiator in the poll though

gladiator leached off braveheart: the murder of their wives (and son), their peaceful lives uprooted, heroic revenge upon their malefactors, the beckoning hereafter, mystical
allusions to eternal peace upon death, the reunion with their wives in heaven.

all these themes appeard first in braveheart and were then lifted with little modification for gladiator. gladiator added a son, a finer pedigree, greater
material wealth, and a few more trifling details.

I've seen Gladiator way too many times. It's on HBO and HBO plus constantly over here. I have braveheart on DVD but haven't seen the whole thing. But I have seen the end plenty. Think I'll check out Braveheart sometime soon. But for now it's Gladiator
