Haha! So were you in the left lane or the right lane on that slip? Left I hope, cuz it looks like the guy in the right lane was sleeping when the tree hit green based on that reaction time, lol.

Left lane. The other guy's reaction time wasn't hideous, but I beat him to the line as he broke out, without breaking out myself.

Maybe...but then again, maybe not. How do you crack down on illegal street racing then? They've got to start somewhere. Illegally modified cars seems a good place to look. Popular racing spots are also a good place to look.

My point is that if you are driving a car that is not legal and it is noticeable by the cops you might expect to be pulled over for it and hassled. Why this should surprise some is beyond me.

The same way they catch people who rob houses. They wait for someone to walk out of a hardware store with a crowbar or screwdriver and bust them. :)

screwdriver=legal
crowbar=legal
no front license plate=illegal

Hmm, I don't see where you're going with this.

My point (which odviously flew over your head like Sputnik), is that WHAT YOU HAVE does NOT mean you do a particular action.

Does having a yellow car mean you run a taxi?
Does having a white van mean you run a delivery service?
Does having a Jeep mean you off road?
Does having a Ferrari mean you go road racing?

GOD FORBID SOMEONE PUTS A HOODSCOOP, WING, DECALS, and 20 INCH RIMS ON THIER CAR!

Oh BTW, that MSD ignition pack is 50 state legal with a CARB and E.O. number. I'm willing to be those headers and intake are also legal.

You could tell that from that crappy video? Man, I couldn't tell if it was legal or not. Are you saying that all MSD ignition packs are 50 state legal? They don't make any for off road use only?

Well, they didn't pull that guy over for having 20" rims, a hoodscoop, wing or decals. They pulled him over because his car visibly did not comply with California law.

There are plenty of cars with stock hoodscoops, large rims and wings. I'm sure some of them get hassled from time to time. What are you gonna do...

I guess if you have a genuine need for speed you should buy a sleeper. Oh, and take it to the track. ;)

The video was pulling someone over for illegal equipment, while the goal was to reduce street racing.

That's trying to cut up apples to make orange juice.

They DID NOT prove that the guy was street racing, nor did they see him street racing, nor even driving in an aggressive manor. The video equated "illegal equipment" to "street racing". Which isn't right.

Nor did they charge him with street racing.

Would you be happier if they said the statewide initiative was to crack down on illegally modified cars? Now we are arguing semantics.

Maybe we should just send everyone in every two years to have thier car inspected and charged $60-80, and if not they can't register thier car?

...oh wait, WE DO!

That obviously doesn't work though or these cars wouldn't be on the roads would they?

Now you're starting to catch on. ;)

My point is that there are ways around that inspection. Phony VIN numbers, removing parts for the inspection then putting them right back on after, etc. There are already random sniffers out there testing cars for excessive emissions. Why not check for illegal mods during traffic stops? Again, I don't see a problem with this.

Man, I'm glad JulesMaximus and the rest of his overbearing government crap aren't anywhere near me.

As much as I hate the riced out Hondas around here, I will stick up for their right to modify their own car. How about instead of hasseling people who have cars that *MIGHT* do something, you go after the people when they actually race.

I guess the air really is different in Cali...people seem all to willing to let the government pass crap like this....must be all the smog.

So, you have no problem with people breaking the law? There is no motor vehicle code in your state? Cops don't pull you over if your inspection or registration is expired? Or if your car is not legal?

How is this "my overbearing government crap" exactly?

You just don't like me do you?

You are advocating that it's completely fine to harrass anyone who modifies their car...LEGALLY or ILLEGALLY. In my state, I have a yearly safety inspection to make sure my car is safe to drive. People modify their cars for hobbies, and not everyone with a modified car is racing illegaly, or putting on "illegal" parts. In Cali, you need to have a CARB # on any modifications you make, and while there may be parts that don't have the number because the manufacturer didn't want to spend all that time, money and resources getting a CARB number so their part could be deemed "legal" in one state. A lot of these parts that Cali may consider "illegal" may actually help the car run better and cleaner, and most of these guys who spend all their time and money modifying their car also tend to keep it in tip top shape, which helps the polution problem.

It seems to me you think anyone who modifies their car should be subject to this, in the hope it will somehow stop street racing, since you had a bad experience in life that was a result of street racing.

Awhile back they tried to pass a law in this state that ANY aftermarket exhaust other than factory was illegal...it never even came to a vote.

Take my Mustang for example...I've upgraded, or *gasp* modified, a ton of stuff on my car. It passes inspection every year, and my brakes are a huge step up from stock. My suspension is a huge upgrade from stock, but both of them make my car SAFER, but in Cali...it would probably be illegal.

I'm glad I don't live in a state like Cali where the citizens seem to just go along with crap like this with the attitude that if it doesn't bother me, who cares?

Well, these aren't new laws. They are just enforcing existing laws. I had a modded Mustang GT in California. Never had a problem passing smog and I never got hassled by the cops. Mine was not illegal though and I didn't race it on the streets.

Some of the stuff they make you do to get CARB certification is stupid IMO. But getting on the cops for busting ricers because their cars are illegal just isn't going to get me all riled up.

Having grown up in the North East, I  California and can't think of anyplace I'd rather live.

You guys probably think seatbelt laws and helmet laws are draconian too huh?

I do. I think only children should be forced to wear saftey equipment. Adults can make decisions for themselves.

It's illegal to not wear a seat belt in my state, and I'm proud to say that I never wear my seatbelt. Never have, never will.

Wow, just when I think you couldn't possibly be any dumber you come out and prove me wrong. Congrats! Darwin might have an award for you someday.

You deserve the commie award. I do not wear it out of principal. I think people should be able to live their lives their own way. I would feel shame if I allowed myself to give in to the government's intrusive policies.

If you only knew how much hatred I have built up inside of me for the government's "babysitting" of it's citizens.

I fight the good fight. Against government intrusion and socialism. Keep your hands and eyes out of my pockets, my bedroom, my car, my bank account, my business, my computer, my....what else...my bathroom, my garage...and anywhere else I may have forgotten.

Your child might thank you for being there for them one day... it's nice to have a father...

You don't wear it because people force you to wear it ? I think this is a case where you should just get over it and do the smart thing.

Hypothetical News Alert: United States passes a law that requires everyone's homes to be searched by police. Police will rumage through all your personal belongings and interrogate anyone behaving suspiciously.

Reason? They say it will lower crime.

-----------------------

Now Mr rh71. People are going to tell you and not resist it. They will tell you, "I think this is a case where you should just get over it and do the smart thing. "

My point is, where do you draw the line?

You don't and you can't.

You give an inch and they'll (the government) take a foot.
