Left lane. The other guy's reaction time wasn't hideous, but I beat him to the line as he broke out, without breaking out myself.

My point is that if you are driving a car that is not legal and it is noticeable by the cops you might expect to be pulled over for it and hassled. Why this should surprise some is beyond me.

Well, they didn't pull that guy over for having 20" rims, a hoodscoop, wing or decals. They pulled him over because his car visibly did not comply with California law.

There are plenty of cars with stock hoodscoops, large rims and wings. I'm sure some of them get hassled from time to time. What are you gonna do...

I guess if you have a genuine need for speed you should buy a sleeper. Oh, and take it to the track.

My point is that there are ways around that inspection. Phony VIN numbers, removing parts for the inspection then putting them right back on after, etc. There are already random sniffers out there testing cars for excessive emissions. Why not check for illegal mods during traffic stops? Again, I don't see a problem with this.

As much as I hate the riced out Hondas around here, I will stick up for their right to modify their own car. How about instead of hasseling people who have cars that *MIGHT* do something, you go after the people when they actually race.

I guess the air really is different in Cali...people seem all to willing to let the government pass crap like this....must be all the smog.

So, you have no problem with people breaking the law? There is no motor vehicle code in your state? Cops don't pull you over if your inspection or registration is expired? Or if your car is not legal?

You are advocating that it's completely fine to harrass anyone who modifies their car...LEGALLY or ILLEGALLY. In my state, I have a yearly safety inspection to make sure my car is safe to drive. People modify their cars for hobbies, and not everyone with a modified car is racing illegaly, or putting on "illegal" parts. In Cali, you need to have a CARB # on any modifications you make, and while there may be parts that don't have the number because the manufacturer didn't want to spend all that time, money and resources getting a CARB number so their part could be deemed "legal" in one state. A lot of these parts that Cali may consider "illegal" may actually help the car run better and cleaner, and most of these guys who spend all their time and money modifying their car also tend to keep it in tip top shape, which helps the polution problem.

It seems to me you think anyone who modifies their car should be subject to this, in the hope it will somehow stop street racing, since you had a bad experience in life that was a result of street racing.

Awhile back they tried to pass a law in this state that ANY aftermarket exhaust other than factory was illegal...it never even came to a vote.

Take my Mustang for example...I've upgraded, or *gasp* modified, a ton of stuff on my car. It passes inspection every year, and my brakes are a huge step up from stock. My suspension is a huge upgrade from stock, but both of them make my car SAFER, but in Cali...it would probably be illegal.

I'm glad I don't live in a state like Cali where the citizens seem to just go along with crap like this with the attitude that if it doesn't bother me, who cares?

Well, these aren't new laws. They are just enforcing existing laws. I had a modded Mustang GT in California. Never had a problem passing smog and I never got hassled by the cops. Mine was not illegal though and I didn't race it on the streets.

Some of the stuff they make you do to get CARB certification is stupid IMO. But getting on the cops for busting ricers because their cars are illegal just isn't going to get me all riled up.

Having grown up in the North East, I :heart: California and can't think of anyplace I'd rather live.
