K1052, what is the model number of the shorter Mosin? I have one now and really enjoy shooting it as a plinker. Mine is the longer barrel version, I believe it's Russian. Since they are so cheap, I'd like to pick up another one day. Thanks.

Of the bottom 3 rifles: There are two M44s (top two rifles with th folding bayonets) and one M38 (bottom).

I think big5 usually carries the M91 (longer) and the M44 (shorter).

You know, maybe AT should have a firearms forum. Or do what other forums do and have an "outdoors" forum.

No, just can't justify the purchase for the sake of money. I'd like to get something nice some day, building an AR might be fun.

sure, its not an ideal situation, but at this point its perfectly safe.

It's perfectly safe to have an unlocked loaded gun on your nightstand?
whats the definition of loaded? there is no round in the chamber
I don't understand why you would lock your gun up in this situation. It's not loaded, and if someone does break in to your house while you are sleeping, are they going to stop and give you time to unlock your gun so you can shoot them?

And I own 1 pistol. though I am trying to decide on a second gun to purchase. Don't really have any clue what I want yet :)

I own several guns.
My son has had his own shotgun since he was (12?)
My kids have been shooting since they were much younger than that. (And, both were slightly better marksmen than I am before they were 10 years old.)
We keep NO loaded guns in the house. However, that wouldn't matter if a gun was needed. I could have a full clip in the 22, or at least one 12 gauge slug or #6 shot in a shotgun without losing any time. Well, maybe I'd lose about 2 seconds with the shotgun. My wife isn't afraid to use the guns, but we learned last year that although she's a pretty good marksman (markswoman? marksperson?) herself, she does need some more training with the guns - I don't trust her with them as much as I trust the kids.

I own two .22 rifles, one 12 gauge shotgun, one 30-30 rifle, and one 9mm handgun. I am unmarried and have no kids. None of the girls that I've dated had a problem with firearms, most would go target shooting with me (one was even a more skilled hunter than I). Before I have children I will purchase a gun safe. When I have children, they will be taught to respect firearms and begin shooting at a young age.

I grew up in a town full of hunters. I've been shooting since I was about 7 years old. Learning gun safety and respect for firearms is very important for any child, whether there is a firearm in the house or not.

Knowledge is key. Teaching children to fear firearms is a horrible practice.

That's wierd, I owned an M16-a1 in the 90's, the only expensive thing was the gun, the goverment only got $200 from me and I didn't need any permit. The $200 was the tax stamp. It did take about a year though to get the gun into my hands from the time I bought it.

In the late 90's the law changed for people getting a new one.

They are mistaken, they do not need a license to own one. You only need the license to manufacture NFA restricted devices, and to sell NFA items.

As you know, all you have to do is fill out the Form 4 and pay the gov their $200, and wait. The waiting time lately (for me anyways) has been about six weeks from when I send the completed paperwork in.

I have an M-16 lower myself, and I absolutely love it. Well worth the cash.

hmmmmmmmmmmm. Last time I looked into it you had to actually purchase one to complete the paperwork, but since you couldn't possess it you had to find a dealer to act as an armorer while waiting for your paperwork to be approved. (if unlikely enough to get disapproved, well then ya hit that brown creek I guess)

You still have to purchase the item before you start the paperwork. The process is

1. Pick out awesome NFA item/weapon, pay for it and have it shipped to a class 3 dealer.

2. When he recieves the item, he will start helping you fill out (or you can do it yourself) a form 4, and he will put the serial numbers of the new item on the paperwork.

3. Get passport photo's for your form 4

4. Get completed form 4 signed by either the Chief of Police or the Sheriff in your area, and get fingerprinted on the included cards.

5. Make copies

6. Send completed and signed paperwork (two copies) to the ATF with a $200 check for the tax stamp

7. Wait

8. Wait some more

9. Swear profusely about how long it is taking.

10. Dealer will Get paperwork back from ATF (ATF will retain one copy for their records).

11. Pickup NFA item and your completed form 4, and make several copies. Lock the original away in a safe or a safety deposit box. Keep either a laminated copy or a copy in a sleeve protector with the weapon at all times.

Yes I technically own a gun, but it's a Colt 1911 from 1913 that my great uncle was given in WWII and is worth a ton of money because of its condition. I do plan on buying a gun in the next year for fun - either a 1911 .45 with .22 conversion kit or some kind of 9mm.

Don't have an SO, but when I do have kids someday, I won't use the gun for self-defense. I'll keep the gun locked and maybe the ammo locked or not even in the house.

5 guns.

No kids and SO is fine with it as long as I don't carry more than 1 at a time

Just bought an AR-15 from a coworker this evening, I've shot this exact rifle before but I can't wait to put some rounds through it on Saturday, as my possession. :D Bushmaster A2 lower with Colt A3 upper, A3 barrel, padded buttstock, handle, Trijicon red dot AND 20x optical scope, two 30 round clips, and one 20 round clip. All for $780. :D I'm happy.

What kind of modifications did you have to make in order for it to take clips?

The ones that I own take Magazines, but it would be unique to have one that takes clips. :p

WTF... those poll numbers can't possible be in line with the population as a whole. If this many internet geeks own guns, I guess it doesn't surprise me that we have school shootings, because there are a lot of internet geeks completely off their rocker. Myself included.

But you could also look at it as the reason why we don't have MORE school shootings.

It takes more than just owning a gun to drive someone to shoot another person... especially when self defense isn't involved.

Which is why I said that there are a lot of internet geeks off their rocker. If 2/3 of internet geeks own guns, and 1/10 of internet geeks are off their rocker, then probably 1/15 internet geeks are internet geeks who own guns and are off their rocker.

I wouldn't disagree about why there aren't more school shootings were it not for the fact that people are not permitted to bring guns into school, not even for self defense.

It's interesting because non geeks like my coworkers wouldn't be talking about guns all the time. So I highly doubt that many people own guns in reality. Internet geeks distort figures.

Oh hush, clips is easier to type than magazine. :p
