You list a widget on C'List for $X hundred dollars. Large and heavy (six foot by 4 foot and 600 pounds). Your first email reply has a phone number from another state hundreds of miles away wanting to come and look at it.

OK, so it could be a cell phone for somebody who moved from there to your area.

Do you respond?

One of my most visited sites/forums is down for 24 hours for scheduled (but unannounced to the members) maintenance.

A package I waited for a week to be shipped has been stuck in Georgia since Thursday even though I know FedEx is working today.

Another item I need is out of stock, maybe until April.

Why not? I'm not getting a new number just because I moved across the country.

Exactly .... area-codes and caller ID are mostly worthless beyond convenience anyway and most (non-landline) phones don't have a "long distance" charge for domestic calls these days.

I wouldn't bring random CL people to my house so if it's not a "widget" that I can throw in the back of a van and meet the person nearby (because I'm not going far out of my way for CL dude) then the item shouldn't be sold on CL.

Funny... nearly every single time I hear about some clod getting ripped on a CL deal gone bad I'm just left shaking my head.

While its true that ANYONE can potentially get scammed by a really slick "confidence-man", MOST "marks" are so freaking dumb it's literally mind-boggling.

🙄

Result ....

Didn't sell that time. I relisted a few weeks later and the same guy responded again. This time he made clear he was indeed local and was in the process of moving, hence the out of state cell number.

Worked out the details and he showed up cash in hand to make it happen. From the looks of his truck, the 8 bills was little more than usual pocket change.

Are they finally doing something about the scalpers and the buy bots then? That seemed to be the biggest issues is as soon as they go in stock they are sold out in minutes.

I am thinking of getting some Rainier beer.
