Weight loss is definitely a mental hurdle initially, but after pushing through that, habit takes care of the rest. I lost over 100lbs 5yrs ago and I'm never going back.

Anyone still struggling I highly recommend this book: https://www.amazon.com/Willpower-Doesnt-Work-Discover-Success/dp/0316441325

It applies to anything, you can take the concepts and apply it to weight loss. It basically talks about changing your environment so you have no choice but to adapt to the good options you've created. In this case, only leave healthy options for eating and activities in your environment, then by definition you'll be making better choices because that's all that will be left.

Remove all your bad options, fill them with good ones. It will be a struggle at first, but eventually it gets easier and easier. Over eating healthy calories is still going to be better than overeating unhealthy calories, but taking that first step will still go a long ways mentally.

Face it, kids are FAT. Adults are FAT. People dying of covid are FAT. Drug companies make trillions off sick FAT people with diabetes and cancers and bone problems and illness usually only seen in older people. We have a McDonalds drive-thru on every corner yet where can you drive-thru to get a nice salad or stir-fry or anything tasty that won't eventually kill you?

Many would say that this is all some big government conspiracy to feed people crap, keep people sick and FAT so that the drug companies and healthcare system can flourish in wealth. And it does appear that way. When you see the hundreds of ads on TV for pills and drugs and claiming the answer to every problem is only a pill away, you do begin to wonder. Believe me, if I could drive-thru and pickup a nice stir-fry meal or large filling salad with grilled chicken and veggies, I would. We all would, however we can't because all there is out there are fried foods and foods cooked in grease.

But in the midst of all this disparaging news there is hope. That hope is with three little numbers easily dialed on any cell phone.

PS. I will never forget the day I was asked to pick up me 9 year old niece from school. When the school doors opened every kid, every single kid waddled down the walkway like fat little piggies. And I'm sorry to say, my niece was one of them. Something never seen in my school days of long ago.

And what "we're served" depends on where you are eating, if you are making your own food, etc.

Oh, and 300 calories for someone weighing 46lbs like my son is a lot different than 300 calories for myself being 195lbs.

Arbitrarily throwing out calorie numbers is 100% pointless without any context of who is consuming it.
So much easier to eat healthy at home. Portion size and choice of ingredients.

well I wanted to discuss the socio-political implications BUT YOU FUCKTARDS ALWAYS DERAIL EVERYTHING!!
Well drive the conversation. I really don't see how it's going to have any real implications outside of Old Navy.

Offering all everything in the full size range seems like bad business, because some things that look really good on a size 18 won't look good on a size 4 and vice versa.

Here here. Since dieting we've eaten almost exclusively at home. No more 17 portions of chinese, no more 800 calorie dickhead burger with two entire potatoes worth of fries on the side.

When I worked in an office I pretty much lived off of Lean Cuisine microwave meals for lunches. Could buy like 5 of them for $10. They were usually 200-300 calories, not packed full of sodium and easy to throw in a lunchbox and warm up. Microwave meals get shit on, but it's way less calories (and cost) than going to a deli/restaurant.

I'll be damned if I'm gonna sit idly by while you besmirch Five Guys like this! Flagpole, 3PM!
Ironically Fiveguys is a common buy on our end. 610 calories for a little cheeseburger, we pair it with smaller lunch and breakfast.

Also, Fiveguys is excellent. Definitely not dickhead burgers.

You can understand my jumping to conclusions based on "two entire potatoes worth of fries" :D
Although honestly the one near my new place doesn't get as crazy with the fries as the one I went to in Nebraska.
Those burgers look funny.

I love how their Jr. Burger is like a normal quarter pounder. Of course, be being a real American man, you are embarrassed to order a Jr. Burger. Then you have to eat that Regular size monster. Haven't been back yet.

Every fast food joint has salads now. Wendy's aren't even half bad.

Love Five Guys. They give you a bucket load of fries. And that's the small size. The fries are tasty.

Yep, I've always ordered little cheeseburgers from them, even pre-diet. They're basically perfect.

Hell yeah! Used to split the fries, we have to skip them now :(

Funny thing, I'm in upstate NY where apparently people think cinnamon cookies are spicy, yet the cajun fries here are goddamned HOT. No idea why! We've tried them a few times over the year and they're barely edible, and I love spicy food.

Yeah and those fast food salads aren't nearly as healthy for you as you'd think. But again this goes back to the whole nutrition education thing. Better than the burger + fries combos of course though.

Eh, it's not as simple as "everyone is lazy", the food and marketing industries are working hard to sell as much product as they can, and using their understanding of the human psyche to do so.

I couldn't believe it when I went to Whataburger the other day and ordered a Whatameal and when they asked me to super size it I said no but still got a 32 ounce Coke when they handed me my food. I told them they gave me the wrong size and they said that's the regular Coke so I asked them for a small instead. Freaking small is 20 ounces. And they call a kids size 16 ounce.

Can't imagine what's causing all this type 2.

32oz coke, 378 calories. That's over an entire meal for me.

I make and bring my own lunches to work. I often walk or workout on my lunch break. I then eat at my desk after while I'm working. Of course the guys that go out for lunch everyday take exception with that, but fuck 'em.

Finding things to fit isn't just an issue for the overweight. People outside of the "norm" can have a hard time finding clothes too. "Big and Tall" sizing normally means FAT and HUGE. I'm large, but lean. I generally can't buy a damned thing of the rack without trying it on.

many people confuse weight for fat. I carry a lot of weight, but not much fat. I maintained 225 pounds bodyweight (6"3" tall with 35 inch waist) in Iraq, all while eating 3000-4000 calories per day. What it took was WILLPOWER and understanding that much of what I learned about "proper diet" has been wrong since I was a child. There's so much B.S. out there that it's almost tragic.

Years later, I still maintain my mass, and I'm still lean, but I had to adjust the lifestyle and pick up physical output more than a little. That was another challenge. I'm old, so too little output and you get fat, too much and you burn out and can also affect hormone levels (T, DHEA etc). A balancing act for sure, and one that was easier when I was young.

This whole B.S. about obesity being normal is just that...B.S. If you are actually overweight (because of fat), you are unhealthy. Love yourself at any weight, but do yourself and those you love a favor and ditch the obesity. It's not your friend. You are not defined by your body-type. You define the body, not the other way around.

The average American woman is 16 and above.

I kinda wish we'd put more money into education about diet and exercise, instead of just making bigger and bigger clothes.

That doesn't really seem fair, does it? A 4X t-shirt probably needs 3 times more cloth than an XS... why should it cost the same?

I guess that the material doesn't really matter all that much, as almost everything at Old Navy is made in an Asian sweatshop. The cost of goods sold probably varies from $2.50 to $3.50.
