I think people just see that different "color" in front of them and flash their lights thinking the high beams are on. When I replaced my lamps with sylvania full spectrum bulbs, people were flashing me and they werent even HID.

I hate people with HID's - it doesn't matter how they self level if they crest a hill coming towards you, or are on some giant truck so even aimed down they catch you in the face. They are so much brighter than normal lights that all it takes is a flash to give you momentary blindness and/or a headache.

Mill, now I'm starting to feel bad for you because you only wanted to post a small comment and it turned into 8 pages of flames. However, I think that only happened because of your *slightly* sour attitude in your first post, like referring to peope who flash at you as rednecks. I also have a 5mw green laser pointer I usually carry in my glove compartment that's a helluva lot brighter than your pimp lights.

I used to drive a 1997 Lincoln Mark VIII that had factory HID headlamps. NOT ONCE did anyone flash their lights at me. Fast-forward to 2006 - with my xB people flash me about once a week...AND I HAVE STOCK HALOGEN HEADLAMPS! It has nothing to do with the color or brightness, but the angle.

I've had plenty of instances where HID lights are way too bright either from oncoming traffic or someone behind me. Autoleveling doesn't do so well in taking into account the different ride heights of other vehicles or the topography of the road it is on as it relates to where other cars are. If HIDs didn't appear too bright in many instances than logically there wouldn't be anyone complaining about them, but people are complaining and even the NHTSA has taken the time to address the issue.

I always get blinded by trucks and SUVs that sit way higher than my car, so their headlights are pointed directly in my face or in my rear view mirror, HID or halogen. Ride height is the biggest factor in glare from headlights. Though I just deal with it and understand it's part of driving on the road with different vehicles. It's never caused me to get in an accident or run anyone over.

I agree totally with the angle comment. Any vehicle that is significantly above those around it will eventually shine its lights in the windows, either right into a driver's eyes or into the mirrors. Either way, it's an irritant.

I have a sedan with xenon headlights and have never had anyone flash their lights at me. Why? Because it's a lower car, not an SUV, truck or other high vehicle. Proper adjustment of the headlights doesn't hurt, either.
