This is my most anticipated game of 2018. They officially announced it's coming out February 27th which was pretty much known at this point.

Does the player play as the blue orb or the mouse? I don't get it (vr wise)

Both. You control Quill (the mouse) with the controls like dpad/analog/face buttons. Then the orb is where your controller is in the world and you can do stuff with that as well, such as push and pull things, freeze enemies, etc. So you control Quill and you also are the overlord of the world. It's very well done and I really hope more VR games are created this way in that they are built for VR from the ground up. It's very intuitive and the story telling aspect and charm of the game is incredible. There is a demo of it on the VR Demo Disc 2.

If you have a PSVR and haven't gotten Moss, I highly recommend it. It's an incredible game and pretty much the only complaint that anyone has about the game is that it's fairly short, coming in around 3.5-4 hours. But at $30 it's definitely a must buy. Pretty much every reviewer out there agrees that it does something with VR that has yet to be done, and it has so much passion and love put into it and it clearly shows. It's also a game that you simply cannot grasp from watching videos of it and it must be experienced because the depth adds so much to it.

I'm thinking about jumping into a PSVR. I had a client pay me with a big Gamestop card (lol) & figured I should blow it on something fun.

Is it worth springing for the PS4 Pro?

I haven't tried PSVR without a Pro so I can't really comment on how it looks with normal PS4.

I beat Moss yesterday. It came in at probably like 3.5 hours my first play through taking my time. Then I started it again immediately to collect the stuff I missed, and I finished it again today. Once you know the puzzles and skip cutscenes, it can be beaten in like 90 minutes. But damn it's such a beautiful game and experience. It's pretty much getting rave reviews from everyone so I hope a sequel comes in the future. I saw a dev interview and they said that as of right now there is nothing in the works for DLC or a sequel, but that it could change.

Got my copy of Superhot VR today from the UK since as of now, only EU has a physical copy that came out at the end of February. At first I was kinda like "meh" about the game and thought thats it? But pretty quickly once the action picked up, I felt like fucking Neo from the Matrix or John Wick. I felt like a complete badass lol. Especially when you can beat the first 2-3 parts of a stage and then die, and have to play them again and know how to beat em, and you just feel like a god damn badass. I had to stop after like 20 minutes because I was like dripping sweat lol. Tracking on it wasn't the greatest though.

Statik is probably the best puzzle game I've ever played. It was $10 and was like 3-4 hours and there is absolutely no hand holding. I think there are like 10 or 12 puzzles maybe. Each puzzle you have your hands locked in a cube with a bunch of contraptions/controls on it, and you just have to figure out how to solve the puzzle. Again, no hand holding or anything. They don't even guide you on any type of direction. There were a couple that flat out stumped me for like 10-15 minutes. Once you get going, it's typically pretty straight forward what to do next, but it still takes some thinking. It's just a very rewarding feeling when you figure them out. Being an engineer, it's right up my alley.

I've heard a lot of good things about the VR variant of the game. (I actually own it on Steam, but I haven't played it yet.) I think the only complaint that I've heard is that the non-VR variant has more content.

Just heard about the price cut. It's been pretty easy to find it every month or so at that price with all the sales they had, but they are probably trying to get these in as many people's hands by E3 as possible since they are supposedly pushing VR really hard at E3 this year. That's the main thing I'm excited about seeing at E3 personally. I haven't been doing any non-VR gaming since I got mine in November other when friends are over and we are playing multiplayer. God of War is going to change that in April too though.

Patch for VR in Wipeout Omega dropped yesterday so I grabbed it today since GameStop has it on sale for $24. Just played one race (well same track twice on different difficulties) and holy shit, it's pretty damn incredible. Crazy how they can patch something like that into a game, let alone for free. I hadn't played Wipeout since probably PSX days and liked it back then, so damn, this is pretty damn awesome.

I just saw that Astro Bot was released yesterday as a full game for $40. The one level they had on Playroom VR was a lot of fun to me. It's getting fantastic reviews with comparisons to doing for VR what Mario 64 did for 3D platformers back in the day. It's also getting comparisons to Moss. Think I'm going to pick it up in a couple hours when I run out on my lunch break.

Astro Bot looks really good, but looking at gameplay videos I'm struggling to come up with why it's even a VR game. It looks like a good 3D platformer where the camera view is fixed to your head... but seems it would have worked just as easily as a traditional platformer with some fixed cameras and limited control with the right stick.

Yes, part of it is being bitter that I can't play it because I'd love a new platformer, but I also don't want there to be a drive to make VR exclusives that really don't need to be. I already have a PS4 for PS4 exclusives, but now having to spend another consoles worth of money on an accessory to gain access to another subset of exclusives is kind of a bummer. It doesn't help that I don't have a ps4 pro, so if I got the psvr it doesn't sound like it runs very well without the extra horsepower.

Ugh

That is the same exact thing people said about Moss but it simply wouldn't work in non-VR as well. It's hard to explain without actually playing it though.

I'm sure it wouldn't be the same experience, it would just be nice to have the option. It would just be nice to have the option of a non VR version (or just sell the same game and VR users get a better experience), but that doesn't exactly help push VR hardware forward so I get it. I feel like I would jump on the PSVR if I didn't feel like the PS4 pro was necessary for a proper experience. That certainly doesn't help.

I don't mean it wouldn't be the same experience, I mean it simply wouldn't work. It would require some fundamental changes in design to the game and levels. There are things about Moss that simply would not work without VR, such as peaking around the corner or down below to look for things and where to go next. The way the controller in your hand is also physically in the world that is used to push/pull/etc things on the levels.

And I'm glad that it's not for VR and non-VR. It gives them the ability to only focus on making the best possible experience in VR and make design decisions with VR in mind versus having to worry about both. It's pretty clear when things are tacked on for VR. Like RE7 is probably one of my all time in VR but it's clear that stuff was ported from non-VR, especially with some of the interactions.

Astro Bot is really good It has such charm and is very polished. I just played the beach level and damnit if it didn't give me the same kind of vibe I got the first time I went underwater in Mario 64. It's really good and fun.

PSVR is $250 at Target on Black Friday with 2 move controllers, camera, and 2 games. If you have a PS4 and not PSVR that should be a no brainer purchase. Even without any games it's a steal of a deal. That price will probably be the "norm" this year around the holidays if I had to guess, since the $100 off price was pretty normal around the holidays last year.

I would be all over this if I didn't have a far superior Rift already. I don't have a pro either, so I imagine the experience wouldn't be nearly as good running vr on a vanilla PS4. One of my friends though is SUPER psyched about getting PSVR for Christmas this year and this deal is right up his alley.

My buddy has a high end PC with VR and PSVR and he says they both have pros/cons over each other.

It looks like the non-move bundles will be $50 cheaper. While the move controllers are certainly worth the extra $50 (compared to buying them separately), the games in the bundle are the Creed game and Superhot VR. I haven't heard much about the Creed game, but Superhot VR is good. For me, the only issue is that I already own Superhot VR on the PC. So, I don't know if it's better to just ignore the controllers and get Astro Bot.
