I haven't used my Rift in so long that I don't think a sale for another VR product would do me any good.

I keep looking at that Astro Bot/Moss bundle for $200, but I don't think I'd use it much and ultimately I'd rather have VR on PC with better hardware. But then I keep looking at it...$200 is pretty cheap to dip a toe in.

I've been stuck trying to decide also and now the bundles are gone. I keep looking at my 2080 Ti with the VR Link port which tells me to wait for the next generation. Maybe I will snag a PS VR to hold me over. Sounds like there are a bunch of good games to hold me over.

If you've waited this long surely wait for the next gen. The ps VR has some good games. I mainly just use my headset on PC to fly.

Although when gen 2.0 comes out I'll need a new gpu for sure. I wish the Odyssey controllers were as intuitive and comfortable as the ones for the rift.

A 2080 Ti won't be able to push the next gen VR?

It will but this military VR system I use isn't the best optimized for VR. I don't have a 2080ti still a 1080ti but by the time gen 2.0 comes out my card will be kind of old to push for that performance.

That makes sense. I thought you meant I'd have to get a new card.

IMO Astro Bot and Moss alone are worth the entry price to PSVR. Then you got tons of games to add on top of it.

Was able to find the Astro Bot bundle online for $200 and a 20% discount using Google Express. Should I get both the move controllers and the Aim Controller?

Also, can you play regular games with the VR headset in place of a tv/monitor? I understand that you won't get a VR experience, but more of large monitor.

Doesn't the headset come with it's own controllers? Aim controller I think is not required. If they are not vr games you can't use the headset as a monitor. As far as I know the PlayStation games have to support VR like resident evil 7.

The cheaper bundles only come with the headset and camera. The games only require the regular controller. The more expensive bundles require them for the games.

Then it will depend on games you plan to play. There are some games that will require the move controllers. Probably the ones where they aren't sit down games. Lame of them not to include controllers.

It's $200 which is why they don't include the move controllers. The bundles with Move Controllers were on sale for $250 during the holidays, the ones without were $200. More choices is a good thing.

As far as needing them, it's up to you and the games you want to play. The descriptions of the games you play will tell you what controllers are required or if they have 'enhanced' play with move controllers. I've been playing Beat Saber a lot recently and those require them. Until Dawn Blood Rush doesn't require them but has enhanced gameplay with them. Some of the demos and VR Worlds required them too. I Expect You To Die has enhanced gameplay with them but that's all I've used with that game. That's really all I've used them for.

As for the Aim controller, don't get it unless there is a game you want to play with it. I have it and have only used it for 2 games. I bought the Farpoint + Aim bundle on Amazon a while back for $60 and Farpoint (with Aim controller) is one of the coolest VR experiences ever. It's only like a 4-5 hour game though but it was just an incredible experience. The other game I used with it is Arizona Sunshine and I think that game sucks. It's clear that Aim support was tacked on and it's an older game too. I also have Doom but since they never put out a left handed patch I never even opened it, and I've had it for over a year. Bravo Team is supposed to be awful and there is a newer online only game that used Aim that is supposed to be fantastic too, however I have no interest in it since it's online only.

I also think you can play regular games in pancake mode with the headset on but I've never tried. Remember the resolution on it is less than 1080p and since I have a 120" screen I play on, I'd prefer that.

My PS VR came in today. Setup was rather easy, even though it introduced a half dozen new cables to the mix.

Astro Bot is pretty epic. It truly is like playing a Mario game in VR, albeit I think the bots are much cuter. My wife, who typically does game, had a blast playing it as well. She's actually very good naturally at games and picked up the controls right away.

The negative, I appear to suffer VR sickness. Read a bunch of recommendations and will try them out. Hope it's something that I can get past as the experience is pretty awesome, even at the entry level quality.

I'll do the same... :p

Yup Astro Bot is just one of those games that you can't really "get" until you experience it. The game has so much polish too.

You get sick from Astro Bot or other games? I definitely built up some VR legs but when I first started I had some issues too. Typically sitting down helped instead of standing. By the time I finished RE7 I was pretty good with moving around in space, although making it segmented turning really helped too.

Another game that "wows" like Astro Bot IMO is Moss. I'm guessing you got that bundle so give it a try when you can. If you think Astro Bot is cute, wait until you see Moss.

Well, I started with Super Stardust VR because I had it in my library. That was a mistake since the spinning around sensation got me after about 5 minutes. By then, Astro Bot finally installed and it was better, but it was getting to me so I took a break.

Will go back tomorrow and see how it goes. Hopefully I can get my VR legs under me as the technology is really immersive. Otherwise, it would be very disappointing that my favorite hobby is crippled by a stupid physical limitation.

I know what you're going through. Good thing you don't have to fly in VR , use instruments, do attack manuevers and simulate pulling G turns. Part of a project I'm using my VR headset on my PC to test stuff for ex pilots in DCS(digital combat simulator).

What helped me when I started, and I used to get warm and dizzy, was to take a break every 20 minutes. Eventually your brain will get used to it and you won't get naseous anymore. Also it helps if you have some ginger, either ginger chips or ginger ale. But seriously take a break as often as you need. Pretty soon it will become second nature and you will be enjoying it much more.

Hell lone echo made me super nauseous and it took a while before I got used to it.

Yeah it just takes time. I remember playing Astro Bot on the VR Playroom where they had 1 level on there, and that made me feel it a little bit. But by the time the game came out, I didn't get any feelings of it at all. I haven't played Stardust HD so I'm not really sure what that is like.

Give Moss a go, it's a stationary game where you are like looking into a diorama. The sick feeling will come when you feel like you are moving but you really aren't, and in Astro Bot as you progress forward, it moves as if you are walking forward. Moss has nothing like that.

EDIT:

To add to what sze5003 said, don't try to play through the sick feeling. It will only make it worse and last longer after you are done. If you start to feel sick, just stop immediately.

People also say blowing fans on them helps too so maybe give that a try.

Yea fans or any type of fresh air helps while you are in the headset. Ginger helps make you less naseous when you start feeling that way.

They said somewhere I read that if you force yourself to play through the sick feeling your brain associates that with being normal and anytime you put the headset on you will get sick like that until you start taking breaks and slowly make yourself adapt. It doesn't take long if you take the breaks you need. I remember I played through the sick feeling once and when I was done I felt bad for a couple hours. I could not use the headset anymore that day.

Stay away from games or Sims where you are constantly in motion until you get used to it.

Thanks for the advice. Glad I'm not the only one.

My wife has ginger tablets so I will give those a try. She used them when I would take her for rides up in Corvette up through the mountains. Now I understand why she got that way.

Anyways, gave Moss a try and it's much easier to get started in. Of course, my wife came down to try it out and stole it for an hour :)

Overall, I'm very impressed with what Sony has done with a budget VR setup. Helps to have a good set of games that are more than remakes of existing titles with a VR twist.

Just played the Raw Data demo again to see if I wanted to buy it before the sale was up since it's only $16. It was pretty fun and the teleportation movement was actually pretty easy to use and get used to quickly. I remember it was one of the first things I ever tried when I got my PSVR and it was weird to me, but now, even though I haven't played a teleportation game, it still felt really easy to do.

Graphics in that game are pretty damn bad though lol. Jaggies galore. But the game was fun and that's all that matters.

Jesus I downloaded the Jap demo of Ace Combat 7 and couldn't play it in VR for more than like 20 seconds. I got the VR sickness feeling almost immediately as soon as you take off and start to turn and what not. Screw that.

Guess you aren't our last hope when the aliens attack :p I picked up AC7 to play in while at my parents house to help out for a few, but will try out VR when I get back to home. I fully anticipate that I will be able to play for a few minutes before calling it quits too. Funny how a game like Beat Saber is playable for hours, but put me in something that spins and I'm done.

It takes a while to get used to. I flew an actual plane before so maybe I'm just used to it. But a lot of the military aircraft I fly in the simulator are very similar but not as arcadey. Ace combat 7 doesn't compare at all to the actual simulators.
