Raw Data - a shooter where you basically have waves of enemies coming at you and you have to fight them off. The graphics weren't that great with a lot of aliasing, but damn this game was fun as shit. It's my first experience of VR where you "move" by pointing and clicking to kind of "teleport" to the spot in front of you, and to turn you press a button that turns you 90 degrees in a direction, but once I got used to it, it was actually very intuitive. And there is something about dual wielding guns in VR that is fun as shit!

The graphics are probably a PS4 issue as Raw Data is one of the better looking VR games for PC... however, it's also known to be quite demanding. I've played it a little bit on PC, and it is nice looking... albeit a bit "shiny". I actually got a bit annoyed with the game's initial part where you're just kind of in a build with pretty much no action. Hover Junkers had a bit of the same problem where you feel like things are almost too complicated relying on in-world controls for menus and stuff. I like games like HoloBall and Space Pirate Trainer that just have menus that float. Make it easy on dumb ol' me! :p

Not sure if it's available for PS4 but robo recall is very similar and it's a ton of fun. I have yet to finish it on PC but i personally have not bought many of the VR games except lone echo and that one space ship sim I can't recall the name of.

Played the first level of Until Dawn: Blood Rush last night and holy shit that game made me feel a little weird when on the faster roller coaster part. I felt like I was going to fall out of my chair the first drop and was glad when it slowed down lol. The game is also pretty damn freaky and made me jump like 3-4 times on just the first level.

So a friend bought his son the PS4 pro for Xmas and has been asking me about PS VR but I don’t really know a lot about it. What is the best bundle to get? I know there is a new model but don’t know much more than I have read on here. Does the bundle come with everything you need to get started or are there other items to buy separately? Figured I could steer him in the right direction at least.

At least from what I've seen on the product boxes, there are differences in the bundles. It looks like most bundles do not include the Move controllers. For example, the Skyrim bundle box shows the Move controllers, but the Gran Turismo and Doom bundles do not show the Move controllers. My assumption is that they only include the Move controllers because you're supposed to use them in Skyrim and the normal PS4 controller in Gran Turismo and Doom. (I know that Doom VFR on the PC supports controller-based play rather than the VR controllers.)

It's also worth noting that if the console will be hooked up to an HDR TV, he may want to ensure that he gets a newer bundle that includes the updated breakout box. The two bundles that contain it are Doom and Skyrim. The updated version also contains some quality-of-life improvements on the headset.

So it seems like Skyrim is the better bundle because of the move controllers which are probably not bad to have for games that use them? It also has all the stuff necessary to use it? Nothing else to buy? I also don’t think he will like doom for his kid, or maybe he would be ok with it but I would guess that Skyrim would be a better game to play in VR.

You should be going with the Skyrim bundle anyway as it has the newer model PSVR. The Gran Trusimo bundle packages in the older model.

But doom is another option but without the move controllers. Am I correct that the move controllers are $100 so you are getting a $50 discount in the bundle?

You don't need the move controllers for Skyrim VR, though using them adds more immersion (swinging a sword, spell casting, etc).

Some games require the move controllers though, like Raw Data.

Yes, the Skyrim bundle is arguably the most "complete bundle" available right now. It contains the newest revision of the headset, which is only available with Skyrim and Doom. Unlike Skyrim, Doom does not contain the Move controllers, but I wouldn't be surprised if you could find used controllers for a decent price. (They were Sony's failed attempt at mimicking the Wii.) I would recommend telling him to make sure he can at least find a few games that his son would like to play. The $100 off deal seems to be over, so paying full price for an accessory that ends up collecting dust would be a bummer. We don't need another 32X. :p

Relayed all the info and I think there is enough to decide whether or not to invest. He seems to think that it won’t be used much after we went over the list of titles, mostly based on what his son’s friends play which is likely what the most time will be spent on. Thanks for the information none the less.

Played RE7 last night for the first time. I only played for like 30 minutes just to get to the first save point because it was late and I was tired, but I like the environment a lot so far. It definitely is going to be a creepy game. Just going through the cabin is creepy lol.

The graphics on it are not very good though. Walking through the forest you can see the limitations of PSVR. I don't know if it's just because it's somewhat old at this point or that it wasn't really optimized for VR or what, but they just weren't too impressive. But that's okay to me because it was still cool.

I also like the segmented turning. I thought it would bother me but it didn't. I tried playing on smooth turning and I just didn't like it. It felt like it turned too fast even on the slowest setting, and it just didn't feel right. I wouldn't even say I felt motion sick really though. I think the segmented turning works fine for VR because you can just turn your head to look around, where you can't just "turn your head" when not in VR. You only turn with the right analog sticks. So I'm glad it didn't bother me at all.

It's just the hardware isn't powerful enough to run the games with all the bells and whistles which isn't why games will always look worse on PS VR. Has to have a high refresh rate for VR which takes away power from the other visuals. That's why PC VR systems require high end components. I'm not hating on it but it's just how it is since it has to be able to run on a 4yr old console.

Yeah I realize that for sure. I bet if the game was built from the ground up for VR and was VR only they would have done it a bit differently to make it look better visually.

I played resident evil 7 on pc, at 4k in HDR and it still looked like crap. They just didn’t put very high res textures in the game, the Forrest area you mentioned looked like mud.

Yeah it looked pretty bad. Also on PSVR I can definitely see individual pixels so the aliasing is very noticeable.

I don't know if anyone else has played RE7 but holy shit the game is REALLY creepy/freaky in VR. I am like an hour or 90 minutes into the game and have jumped like 3-4 times like a little bitch lol.

Unfortunately I can only play in twenty minute increments due to motion sickness. I've tried tinkering with the settings, but haven't had much luck :(

Yeah there is definitely something in RE7 that can get to me motion sickness wise too. I think it's when there are really bright scenes and a lot moving. But other than that like when just walking around I'm typically fine. The segmented turning definitely helps.

God damn RE7 is fucking incredible. I cannot stress how awesome the atmosphere in that game is. I'm probably like almost 3 hours in at this point. I just played it for like 75 minutes which is the longest session I've had with it and I didn't want to turn it off this time but I had to. I also am not feeling any motion sickness stuff anymore so I guess I'm just getting used to VR.

But damn, it's creepy as shit and the game is pretty damn scary. Definitely catch myself clenching my butt cheeks at some parts of the game.

So anyone play Doom VFR? It is $20 on amazon so I just snagged it but am curious to hear opinions here about it. I'm also a bit concerned because I hear in the game the character only can have the gun in his right hand and I'm left handed so I'll either have to play shooting with my right hand, or just have the hands flipped.

Beat RE7 tonight which is one of the best games I've ever played due to VR, and finally put some time into Farpoint.

And holy shit, that game is incredible! I can't believe how natural it feels with the gun. It gets very intense pretty damn quickly and it's just crazy how well it controls and feels in VR. I don't have any motion sickness feeling at all with this game and I'm zooming around too. I really hope more games can incorporate the Aim controller as well as this game.

imo horror games suit VR like PB&J. Messes you up better than a scary movie, hahaha. That creepiness factor is just too good when you're immersed in VR!

One of the first games I have adults play on my Vive is the Brookhaven Experiment. Most people don't last more than a minute :D

Sony brings back Black Friday in February. Sony PS4 fans can save again $100 on Sony PSVR bundles. The hot deal is available starting on Sunday Feb. 18 and ends March 3. It's recommended not to wait as PSVR bundles might sell out quickly at your favorite store.

PSVR is pretty much the only gaming I've done since I got it right before Black Friday. Finished Farpoint last weekend and that game was incredible, I didn't want it to end. I think I'm going to get Bravo Team just because it is supposed to have great Aim support, although I wish it wasn't on rails.

I put more time into Thumper this weekend and that game is awesome too. It's so damn trippy and got a lot harder a lot quicker than I expected. I'm only through level 3 at this point and can't imagine what the later levels will be like.

Moss comes out at the end of this month and is probably my most anticipated game of this year. I cannot wait to play it!

And I still have Skyrim sealed if anyone wants to buy it lol.
