An online petition that calls for the State of Texas to withdraw from the U.S. and create its own government on Monday reached the required signature threshold to receive an official response from The White House.

The petition on WhiteHouse.gov asks the Obama administration to "peacefully grant the State of Texas to withdraw from the United States of America and create its own new government." The petition had surpassed 34,000 signatures as of Monday evening. It was created by a person self-identified only as "Micah H." from Arlington, Texas.

The petition cites the nation's economic woes as an issue and says that the condition of Texas' budget and economy make it "practically feasible for Texas to withdraw from the union."

who's going to pay for the uniforms so the clan doesn't shoot their own people?

If they secede, will they be given a population-proportionate share of the national debt?

Would the state change its name from Texas to Jesusland?

34K people are nothing compared to the population of Texas. Let me know when the number gets to 1% instead of .13%.

Texas population: 25,674,681
US population: 311,591,917
Percentage of the US population in Texas: 8.24%

US National Debt: $16,263,461,460,949.95
8.24% of US National Debt: 1,340,083,494,417.74

Don't see why that's not fair. But I think it'd be fairer still if they took that percentage of the debt that they had a hand in creating. Still, 1.3 trillion to secede? If those were Washington's only terms, I think Texas would take it.

Texas does not have $1.3 trillion.

These kinds of conversations are just about the dumbest thing ever. Good, let them try to secede, force of arms will once again be used to keep the Union together.

This. IIRC we pay in more than we get back as a state. That being the case then why should we pay for yalls debt?

Texas does not have $1.3 trillion.

We can just print up some worthless funny money like yall are making us use now.

And yall don't have the other $15 trillion either.

Threat or use of force against secession is a betrayal of this country's founding principles to let people live free. I would say Lincoln did not save the Union, he killed what made it unique and great in the world. From that day forward we no longer represented liberty but tyranny.

Today you reaffirm that fact.

Oh well. It was settled over 150 years ago that small minded short term thinking morons can't be allowed to ruin a great nation. :colbert:

Some people never learn. They would get overrun and swallowed up by Mexico in a single weekend. It would be the Alamo 2.0.

Absolutely. I say let them secede. Sometimes you have to let the kid touch the hot stove instead of repeatedly telling him not to because it will burn.

Do either of you fools think that the US federal government is stopping that now? lol. Not that I want it to be, but if Texas were it's own country it would be just fine. The rest of the US would be crying because half of the cocaine routes would be cut off.

Until they have another natural disaster (Not meaning Rmoney's campaign) and coming to Uncle Sam looking for a handout.

The sad reality is the average Fox News viewer is a senior citizen and the average republican is 50. Chuck Norris is 72 and in no shape to fight guys. The Bible Belt states receive the lion's share of federal assistance, have the highest rates of poverty, and if they did secede I suspect all those poor people would just migrate to the northern states. Face it, the jig is up, the democrats called their bluff and the only remaining issue is how long it take for these wackos to come to terms with the fact they've lost and have no alternatives.

No, but that's not the point. The point is it would be exacerbated by Texas being its own country.

I am pretty sure Texas would be able to come to some kind of agreement with Mexico as far as trade, and travel. And if Mexico did get froggy, Ft. Hood is only a few hours from the border. Not too mention we probably have more guns per capita than anywhere else in the nation.

But Hood is a US Army base. If Texas secedes, that won't be there to protect you. At least not with all the equipment and non-Texans.

Depends on how it shakes out, but Texas can raise an Army in a matter of minutes.

The majority of Texans are patriotic Americans, not secessionist retards.

Why should they? The bravado that results in seceding is the same bravado that would say "fuck you" to Mexico.
