Oh gee... look at that. The top three worst offenders are the states of West Virginia, Mississippi, and South Carolina; three very red states with a lot of idiotic social conservatives.

That's the Repuglicants dirty little secret.

These kinds of conversations are just about the dumbest thing ever. Good, let them try to secede, force of arms will once again be used to keep the Union together.

No, it won't.

We get sick to our stomachs when 2,000 troops die overseas and you think that we are going to tolerate blowing up like 5 or 6 of the top 20 cities in the nation??? Not to mention the fact that we flat out can't afford it, we can't afford to rebuild it nor can we afford to lose it or the infrastructure.

But on the other end of the argument, no state is going to secede at all in todays world.

I say let them go. Its better for the US. They get a huge portion of the Mexican border. We get most of the oil in the Gulf of Mexico.

They get intelligent design and a 6000 year old earth. We get education for the 21st century.

The only condition is they don't get any nukes.

What makes you think that if Texas did actually secede that Louisiana wouldn't go with them? Hows that oil looking now, especially considering how we would get a TON of oil that is now in Federal waters. How about your refining capacity or hell even the ability to transport it around the country? Texas and Louisiana are THE energy hub of this nation, the money we would make off of selling yall go-go juice alone would probably be enough to cover all revenue needs of both states.

PS: We already have nukes.

I'm relieved that I have your approval LMAO....

Lol, it wasn't approval it was simply stating that I believe you are, and should be, free to do as you please even if that means becoming just like those you so openly despise...

Good point! Great idea! We should KICK Texas out of the union and give them that portion of the national debt that is attributable to George W. Bush.

Next we kick Illinois out and give them Obama's portion of the debt. I like this plan. We'll be paid off in no time.

You troll well sir.
What is it then about Obama that is so horrifying? Is there some position or action that you can articulate? What else is so fundamentally different about Obama when compared with Romney, McCain, Bush and Clinton?

The secession cry is from a bunch of sore losers. Really silly. I kind of doubt that they would really actually try to secede. If they did, I imagine they would set up better border patrols though.

Some people never learn. They would get overrun and swallowed up by Mexico in a single weekend. It would be the Alamo 2.0.
Actually Texas would do a better job of protecting itself from Mexico than does the federal government, who actively advertises in Mexico telling people how to get on assistance programs once they get here.

Still, I voted Union. Texas is fooling itself if it thinks it wouldn't go the same way as the rest of the country, even if it took more time.

I would say good riddance.
I am sure the other states that might have been considering it will see the disaster that befalls Texas and we won't have any more secession nonsense for another 100 plus years.

what's interesting is how a large majority of people commenting against the secession petitions keep calling it racist. Interesting to see that there's so much of that still being thrown around. It couldn't possibly be that people are sick of the monstrosity that is our Federal Government and it's corrupt grasp on all of our lives.

I support secession and race never came into my mind when thinking about it. I simply do not support the Federal Government of Republicans and Democrats any more.

The race card has been so popular with the left that it's all they remember how to use now.

Why is this getting any news coverage?
Because its an "acceptable" way to be racist. Instead of saying its about a black (or hispanic, or asian, etc)President they want to make it appear like its a larger issue of how the country is split on policies.

Of course, its quite obvious to most Americans its just a way of saying we hate blacks so much we don't want to be a part of a country that elects one.

Its also a function of the lies the old Confederate states tell themselves and their children that the Civil War was over states rights. Even they know its b.s. It was all about the economics of an economy that was built on slaves and their unwillingness to free them.

No slavery, no Civil War.

I am not one to throw the race card, but you absolutely cannot convince me that this instinct to secede is not largely a function of President Obama's race. He is, if anything, a hawkish, centrist Democrat, and has given these states nothing to fear, other than being a half-black guy named Barack Hussein Obama.

Those idiots can't stand that the nation re-elected President McBlackenstein :)

I don't recall any Dem politicians threatening to secede when Bush was re-elected

Because no one jokingly made this.

http://politicalhumor.about.com/library/jokes/bljokecaliforniasecession.htm

If Bush was egotistical enough and manipulative enough(I'll add smart enough) to figure out what he could accomplish by opening some of the stupid websites Obama has to give the illusion he and his admin care about the people and their ideas/plights, we probably would have seen petitions like that created as well.

apparently there's another article talking about this as it happened in 2004

http://legalinsurrection.com/2012/11/lawrence-odonnell-calls-for-secession-in-2004/

Also, anyone claiming slavery as the driving force for the civil war is a fucking indoctrinated tool that should not be taken seriously. Slavery would have eventually led to some conflict, but that war was totally forced by the North to bring back in the South so they could exploit them further. The North allowed slavery in States that stayed in the Union after the emancipation, so pretty sure the North fucking sucked too. If anything I also support a confederacy much more than I do the federal union.
