This is absurd. You think someone should ask you before they recline their seat? Wow. Just wow.

WAAAAAAH I'm too poor to afford first class so I'm going to cry about how much I hate coach, but somehow twist it into everyone else in coach being a jerk but me!

Grow up kid.

Grow taller.

But seriously though, why is your comfort more important than the person in front of you?

It's not, no one's comfort is any more important than any other's, to me it's simply an issue of common courtesy.

There is nothing common about asking to recline your airline seat

I would never ask permission.
That being said, I never recline mine. It is rude.

Oh yeah man...this was my reply, exactly. I'm 6'1" and HATE flying coach. But I can't afford First Class. Even if you DON'T recline your seat, my knees are already against your seatback and my feet are hardly touching the floor. :( I fucvknig hate it like you wouldn't believe.

But...it is what it is. Coach. I deal with it. And I recline my seat all the fucking way back when I damn fucking feel like it. And I could care less about the people in back of me. If they bitch or start kicking my seat I pretend I'm having a nightmare and I climb into their lap. Seriously.

I paid for the seat, blow me.

If you want to recline without pissing someone off, buy first class cheapskate.

Onus is on the pissed-off person to spend more money. Doesn't hurt me to have someone pissed off, and the feature is there on MY seat, under MY control, for me to use it.

I may be a 5'6" woman and you might be a 6'3" guy but I have arthritis and being in a cramped single position for a few hours can literally hobble me to the point of not being able to stand. I have no intention of asking your permission (and taking the chance you'd say no) when my ability to walk off the plane is contingent on your answer.

You want more space than the airline allows for, you pay for more space.

*ding* That's the right answer. +10 points for you. We won't get into discusson about the mom with the screaming 2 year old or the In-Need-Of-Ritalin 8 year old that just won't stop kicking my seat/throwing things at me/running up and down the aisle knocking shit over. That doesn't happen in first class.

Again: Coach = You Deal With It.

The hole in the lavoratory isn't a 'seat'. The lit fasten seatbelt indicator refers to all of the passengers in the main cabin, only. Trying to click terds and tampons together is an exercise in futility, Nick. Get out of the hole!

You're angry with the passenger because the airlines squeezed an extra seat into the plane to maximize revenue thus cramming everyone into a sardine can?

Wow. Not once in my life has someone asked me if it was ok if they reclined their seat. Why the hell would you? I've flown at least 50+ thousand miles a year for 8 years and not once has someone asked me if it was ok to recline their seat.

I think your expectations are a little high. And by a little high I mean you're an idiot.

edit: oh, and I am 6' tall so I need as much leg room as I can get.

agreed.
I've flown well over 1MM miles and never have I had anyone ask if they could recline their seat. They just do. As do I. If you have a problem with it, don't fly, or spend the money and move up to first.

I really surprised by the "I'm too tall" responses. I'm 6'2", have had surgery on both knees and have no issues with legroom. Some people just like to bitch.

But if you ask if you can recline your seat I'll just say no. Better not to ask

To me, they rank right up there with the person who brings on the bag that just squeaks in under the carry on size rules, then takes up 2/3 of the bin above their seats that 3 other people have to try to stuff their similarly sized bags into!

Honestly, charging for the first checked bag was the dumbest idea that the airlines have had, in recent memory. Especially so now, since they won't take the time to tell people their carry on is too big, and they have to gate check it. :|

Why the hell would I ask???? The seats recline for a reason, mainly because its too uncomfortable to sit straight upright for X amount of hours... I should be uncomfortable because you dont want me to recline my seat so YOU can be more comfortable? Maybe if you paid for my airfare, this would fly. But as long as I paid for the seat, its being reclined the second the pilot dings that bell saying its okay to do so.

THey are designed so you can recline them without interfering with the eprson behind you. Maybe if you weigh 400 pounds or something but then that's your own damn problem. Quit bitching and recline your own seat if you're that scared of someone encroaching on your personal space.

No it's not rude at all. I payed for a seat that reclines, you can recline yours too.

If you're so big that a reclined seats overcrowds you, go buy first class or business class and stop whining.
