Why, yes, I am the king of the road. And no, I don't cause accidents and never have caused one. You do, however, by not being courteous to other drivers. Get your head out of your ass and yield. For all you know, they're rushing a sick person to a nearby hospital. While that's unlikely, just get the fsck out of the way, ok prick? You aren't the police. and your attitude causes accidents.

You are extremely naive.

Mark my words here, because many have thought just like you and tried to screw with me on the freeway. You don't have to believe this, but my car is faster than yours. My car can stop faster than yours. My car can handle better than yours. And finally, I am a FAR better driver than you. In fact, what I do casually in a car with one hand on the wheel scares the sh!t out of you just to watch. You are hopelessly out-classed. Figure that out. To drivers like me, you are the threat. Not because you drive slow, but because you are a woefully incompetent and inattentive driver... and yet for some unknown reason, you are smug and arrogant about your lack of skill and road-awareness, and your slow-motion reflexes.
I used to be rather spiteful about having to deal with your type, blowing by you, cutting you off, purposefully making you miss your exit or turn, but now you just bore me. If I blow past you now, it's because I consider you dangerous, and just don't want to be anywhere near you on the road.

I know most people here are arrogant and don't give a fvck about other people (blame in on society), but...

About a year or two ago I had to take a defensive driving course (for no reason other than lowering insurance a bit, i've never been stopped by a cop myself). ANNNNYWAY...one of the things they taught us was "you must keep up with traffic. Even if traffic is going 10-15mph faster on average than you are, it is SAFER if you maintain a similar speed." This is what they teach in NJ at least...

(though, again, i'm sure the ignorant people will do what they want and cause more traffic problems)

Even a cop would have told that idiotic driver he was in the wrong.

So who are you?? King of the road?? Everyone must move for you?? 55 is the limit, not some sort of guide for you to do as you wish!!!It is people like you who cause accidents, smart ass!!

For the record the least number of accidents occur 10mph over the limit. There are also far more accidents where one car was going substantially under the limit than over it.

Also for all you claiming it's your right to be in the far left lane, you are wrong, traffic is technically supposed to stay as far to the right lanes as possible, using the left lanes to pass and when they are traveling faster than the rest of the traffic. If everyone followed those simple rules, half of these road expansions will not be needed, people cause their own delays to by playing the stupid NASCAR game...whenever one guy taps his brakes, you have 10 miles behind him all over braking...it's ridiculous.

Tonight there was a dumbass (little skinny guy with a big truck) towing his little dinky bass boat in the far left lane doing 45mph a 55mph...he was going slower than 45mph in the 45 too, but I wasn't behind him directly then and thought it was just traffic backed up. As I caught up I saw anytime someone tried to go around him he'd swing his trailer out....so stupid. I was in the middle lane and heading up at the speed limit slowly passing him and then I slightly sped up as I was approaching another van in the middle lane about 5 or 6 car lengths ahead with plenty of room to make a slow and simple pass leaving plenty of room for everyone...but Mr. Bass Yacht :) decides otherwise. I get ready to move over and I realize the idiot had sped up and was now in my blind spot...as space opened up the truck would close the gap, he was watching my car constantly. I could have made it a million times previously but I wasn't trying to cut anyone off nor blast up the right lane. Anyways, idiot desides now to sort of drift over towards my door and honk as if I was in his lane...I have no idea what his deal was with everyone, but it really pissed me off so at the next approach to a red light I started to slow, then as he let off thinking I was now blocked again, I gassed it and slipped in front and completed a 45-0 braking test immediately. Smoke was nice and visible behind me from I think every tire one his big ol' mudder tires :) now he desides to 'scare' me by slowly riding up to me with his brights so I just let off the clutch and let myself roll back as I fiddled with imaginary items on my passenger floor ;)...now more honking behind me, the brights turn off, and more of me ignoring him while I am trying to find that 'thing' on my floor, I hit my brakes and wave like "oh sorry" and thought that was that....he kept back a bit.

However, at the next light I came to a slow stop back in the middle lane again and he changes lanes and pulled the stupid brights and riding up to me again, that was it, I opened my door and started preparing to beat his ass, took off my watch and bracelet, loosened up my shirt...once he realized what I was doing, he tried to reverse in traffic at the light and get over to the right lane where a turn in was, now a lot of people were honking. Light turned green, I put myself back into the driver mindframe, shut my door and drove off like nothing was the matter and this time he kept way back, problem solved.

I was definitely ready to beat his ass, I can see someone getting mad about me accidentially cutting them off, or some other mistake I have made...but when one is trying to provoke and you call them on it, they can't then start acting like the victim. Maybe one day I will be shot, who knows...I will deal with that when it happens...

Normally I ignore all this and don't let it escalate, I work from home so I don't get to drive that often anyways and I like my car and music...but this last week I am going through some crazy allergic reaction to something (I have no known allergies), look like I have monkey pox and had to cough up $500 for the doctor and whatever tests he came up with and some kick ass anti-histamines....so I am the 'low-tolerance itchy bumpy boy' right now and at this point ending up in a hospital under heavy meds sounds attractive.

The totally worst case of these mudder 'cool' guys was when my wife and me were just cruising in the far right lane about 5mph over the limit even with no one on the road (it was late late night early morning) and one of these guys barnstorms me putting on his full set of lights at the last second. It scared the crap out of her and she didn't understand it at all (she has only been in the USA for a year, previously from Japan). I saw him coming and just thought he forgot his headlights and was going to pass me once he got close. I didn't even mess with him, just thinking maybe he had a little to drink and was clueless, plus I don't like messing with people with passengers in my car....they never share my insanity.

The guy proceeds to then kill his lights and drift back again into the darkness and about a 1/4 mile later I see him closing in again...this time I told her we may get hit, but it will probably be not bad and there is no way he is going to pull that crap again (I only try for a 10-20mph difference in speed when I do these kinds of things, as I can see the vehicles getting close together and accelerate usually faster than they can brake, plus this was a really nice truck so more than likely he would have insurance and even more likely he would try at all costs not to rearend me)...well this time the guy was really on the fly and as I stopped and saw him try to pass on the left I blocked him and he literally had to baja it, he would have definitely hit me otherwise, I totally misjudged how fast he was going this time, I am thinking perhaps 40-50mph faster than me. I thought he was going to roll, it was real bad (that's what I based my grass, dirt, and stuff flying all over the place above), we were next to a field at the time, one of the few fields on this road. My wife wanted me to go back and check on him
rolleye.gif
... when I explained if I go back there it's not going to be good she realized the guy deserved it, but she was giving him so much benefit of the doubt that maybe something was wrong and he needed help ;). When we got home she wanted to tell the police about it, she insisted he must have had something very wrong and needed someone to help him heheheheh.

Well end of ranting for the night :)

I agree with everything - mostly. But... if I'm driving in the passing lane, and some ass speeds up from behind and gets all up on me... I'm not going to move over just to convenience them if it means that I have to get over and get behind a slower person... causing me to slow down instantly. Screw you, you can wait a few seconds. I'll gladly get over when no one is in sight in the right lane. But I won't do it if there are other cars there.

Bring it, bitch...

If I'm going the speed limit, screw you.

amish

Going the speed limit is what the right lane is for.

I thought that was what the ROAD was for.

There's a reason it's called the passing lane.

And people who think they have a right to speed should be locked up in prison a few years where all the inmates will get to systematically gangrape him.

Oh, and they should get decapitated afterwards.

I don't know if you are refering to this thread or people in general....many here have stated it's not even speeding, it's people in the left lanes going slower than the speed limit.

That's a huge problem here in S. Florida, it's typical to be on a road and the middle and left lanes are going 10-5 mph below the limits causing a huge delay and when someone tries to get around the slow drivers scramble to block them.

GO visit a few countries in Europe, or better yet, the middle east. You will be on your knees praying for a return to the tame highways of the good ole USA in no time.

My fiancee does both of this...it drives me crazy. She will race up to the next car in the right hand lane and tailgate the $hit out of them, get frustrated, move into the left lane, then slow down and stay there forever pissing everyone off. She does not seem to realize that she is doing it. I have tried to tell her but she denies it and then it never seems to change. Now I just drive everywhere.

BTW - please don't shoot my fiancee.

Actually if you ask me the worst thing is when you are going fast in the left lane and just as you are about to pass someone they pull out in front of you...seems to happen all the time. And then there is the old two-trucks-on-a-hill routine where the speed limit is 65, one truck is doing 20 and the other is doing 25, so the one doing 25 is trying to pass the other one. That kills me.

I absolutely HATE Motherfvcking Tractor Trailers. and I absolutely Hate when one Tractor Trailer is trying to pass another Tractor Trailer on a two land highway, and it takes 20 minutes for them to pass each other.

Left Lane huggers, you will ROT in HELL soon enough.:|

Everyday I commute 1 hr/each way to collge. Most of my commutes only involve about 15minutes minutes of excessive speeding.....by then I'm ahead of all the assholes, wackos, incompetant female drives(NOT ALL WOMEN...just hose), trucks, eldery....and can drive at the speed limit.

If anything, my commute is pretty lonely in the morning...

Cops ARE inSaNaE drivers somethings(No.VA) ,.....one was speeding the other day soI kept up with him(whose gonna ticket me if i am still going slower even though I'm speeding)

Anyways, I am not sure what engine type his Ford "enforcer" had, but damn My Stick '90 accord was having trouble keeping up with him. He was FLYING....

I admit I do this sometimes, but only in busy traffic so people won't dart out in front of me..Usually never less than 3/4 of a car length though....

Seattle is actually insane for this. For example, I-5 North into Seattle before the 405 interchange is 6 lanes across (edit: each side). The farthest left lane is the carpool lane -- it usually doesn't have too much traffic. The main left lane is actually the slowest lane of them all. On top of that, it is stacked one car after another, all doing 45 or so in a 60 zone because somewhere, a few miles up on this crowded freeway, some ass who should have his license revoked found his way into the left lane, won't go over 50 in a 60, and is backing up traffic in that lane for miles. I have often gotten up to the front to find this "one" driver. The 2nd from left is the real fast lane, with cars doing 75-70. The other lanes to the right slow down from there, with all the trucks in the far right lanes. This is everyday all day on the freeways in Seattle.
I don't think it needs to be said that the dynamic of the 3 left lanes there is very dangerous. And no surprise, they get a lot of accidents on the freeways in Seattle. The most ironic thing about all this are the signs posted on the left side of the freeway every few miles in WA state: "State Law: Keep Right Except to Pass"

argh. another thing that drives me up the wall is people who are in the carpool lane doing 65 in a 65 zone and having the people in the "regular lanes" on the right zooming past them. The carpool lane is like a left lane: it's for passing and driving faster. You defeat the whole purpose of the carpool lane when you drag ass in it. I wish i was a cop just so that i could ticket people doing stupid sh!t

Here is Alabama the law is 18 wheelers to the right. Normally, the right hand lane is undriveable for a normal vehicle due to the terrible damage caused by tractor trailors. I was almost killed numerous times trying to pass those assholes driving during that Tropical Storm. For some odd reason they ignore the law most of the time and fvck up the left lane too. Oh, and we of course have no money for roads or schools. It all goes in the Pols pockets.

for the record the statistic you just gave is worthless. for it to mean anything you'd have to normalize it by the amount of vehicle-miles driven at 10 over the speed limit and then compare to similarly normalized figures.

Well after rereading his post, it seems to me that his post is kind of ambiguous. He might mean people who stop, and as a result, leave 2 car lengths.... or he can mean, people who no longer leave 2 car lengths.

Even in heavy traffic I always try leave a good amount of space in front of me mainly because I don't like it when people dart in front of me. A lot of people will dart in front of you regardless of how much room you leave them.

Vic, from reading your post, it truly sounds like you are a man of experience when it comes to driving. I would follow you anyday. If half of the driving population had common sense, there would be no such things as traffic jams.

Unfortunately I have never seen a cop ticket a driver for driving under the Speed Limit.:(

This video seems appropriate to the thread: yes & no of driving

Anyone ever actually literally push the idiot pacers out of the way? (get within 1 inch of their bumper then slam on the gas?)
Never actually tried this method myself, seen it done once and been tempted to many times though. Most bumpers today are pretty flimsy. Would that technically be hit & run? It's not exactly an "accident"...

I myself always leave a decent distance between me and the next driver and always try to stay right as much as possible, but it isn't always possible or practical, esp. with some tailgating freaks or people that speed up in the *right* hand lane and don't allow me to merge into that lane.

Whatever happened to the concept of Speed Limit? It's not Speed Minimum, it's speed *limit* and if you don't want a speeding ticket you have to go *under* the speed limit.
Slower Traffic Keep Right - it's the law

Anyway, I know your type. In the 16 years I've had my license, I've driven well over a million freeway miles. Sometimes I think that I have truly seen it all. You should have your license revoked for incompetent driving skills. Let me be clear, if other drivers are impatiently passing you on your right, you are doing something very, very wrong. And the

Thank you.

My thoughts exactly, he needs executed ASAP.

Last time I checked there is no law that says that anyone owns the left hand lane -- at least not in my state. There are however laws against harassing people and reckless driving. I can't believe you guys think harassing people and flashing lights at people is rational. The basic fact is that you need a certain distance between you and the next person in order to have a safe stopping distance.

The other reality is that yes, I do pay attention to what goes on traffic, but if the road-hogging people show in the right hand lane too, and do their best to make it impossible to merge into the right hand lane too -- I wonder if any of you do that too.. that really helps, doesn't it if you never let people merge into the right hand lane -- doesn't it?

Having such an inflated ego that you can't even allow people to pass you isn't better driving, it's basically hazardous driving -- and it's what leads to those 20 car pile ups you hear about once in a while.
