win95..bad memories... not even osr2 eh? bleh... i threw out mostof my old m/b /cpu.....
but most people get the message...harddrives and stuff die...and well the incredible slowness of it all, u have to be strange to not care

heh, my little brother thinks the computer he bought in 2000 for $1900 should have retained more value then I told him it was worth. Kid's so cheap he won't spring for $400(CDN) for a Cel-D system loaded.

this is news to me...

the software a computer runs makes a computer outdated... but i am sure a 386 running windows 3.1 can still run and last for some time...

I find it amusing that my in-laws have an HP K6-450, citing the fact that they paid a lot for it when they bought it whenever I suggest a new one. The thing feels slower than my P-200 was.

Truthfully, hardware made a bigger leap than software some years back, so computers are lasting longer. PC's 300 mhz and over are still more than useable for the Internet. Under that is a whole different generation that's lived past their useful life. Get rid if it for cripes sake!!!!!

This is very true. Anything in the 300-500mhz range is actually plenty fast for the average user who just does email and some word processing.

I think this is the reason manufactors got away with selling high end CPU'd computers with no where near enough ram for so long (Windows XP with 128mb of ram and 16mb shared video ring any bells? 😛) The thing still flies compared to an old p120mhz which also probably didn't have enough ram, so they think its a good deal faster.

But anyone who's been on a computer that actually had enough ram to do its job can't stop ripping their hair out and going "load the damn web browser you pile of sh|t dell!"

My sister-in-law e-mailed me yesterday asking why her new digital camera won't install on her computer. She's running Windows 98 (not even SE version) on a 6 year old computer with 46MB RAM.

It's time to upgrade!!!
