My biggest issue with this whole thing is the focus on just Paterno. If they want to fire him over it then the athetic director, school president and anyone else who was aware of the incidents should be gone too as they were aware of the situation and did nothing as well. I'd support that. I just hate all of the focus on one cog on a much larger wheel.

I think that is the way it is trending, a total house cleaning from president to Joe, and anyone else that knew.

This. They all should go if the knew.

The wife wants to know if criminal charges are in order if someone actually saw abuse happening and failed to call the police.

I can only hope that Wisco's student section doesn't embarrass itself later this month. IMHO denigrating PSU because of the actions of a lone pederast is uncalled for, and FFS, totally disrespectful to the victims of Sandusky's crimes. :(

Yep, same feeling here.

I hope the crowd at Ohio State is respectful on the 19th, but kids will be kids.

Interesting that the employer ladder would hold up for that type of crime. Where would an individual stand in the same position?

Remember the rape/killing of the girl in the airport years ago. The perps buddy stood by and watched. The buddy wasn't legally responsible to do anything to help/call for help. Hopefully that's been changed.

Well, the issue is several people within the football program knew about the incidents and did not report them to the police. So, going after the program as a whole isn't absolutely unwarranted.

That's a valid point, but, holy shit, you gotta feel for the students on the team. I mean, they likely idolize Joe Paterno and now, it's apparent the guy was either turning his head the other way while little boys got raped in the showers or he's just totally out of touch with reality and senile. And the issue of the program itself being tarnished is irrelevant to the victims. It's one thing to taunt the program, it's another to make light of child rape...

Wisconsin student section is pretty rowdy ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sHAo6kMzRmI&feature=related
not saying that it would be any better at OSU.

LOL. Yeah I know, I'm often there. :p

1. I'm hearing there will likely be a complete house cleaning at PSU. JoPa, among others, will be going soon. Even all asst coaches will eventually leave.

2. Also hearing it's likely federal law was broken by JoPa and those not reporting the abuse/crime to the police (or child abuse hotline). The state DA has said they're not in violation, but that's state law.

3. Rumor has it that Urban Myer has put down money on a house there. I.e., rumor is he's going to be new HC. Many have thought Golden (new HC at Miami) might be HC after Paterno, but it's said because he was on staff during this time so he's a 'no-go'.

These are just rumors from college football sites, so take it FWIW.

Making fun of Penn State for this is pretty low, but there is trash in every city that will likely do so.

everyone who knew about this should go to jail. sick

the grand jury stuff seems to imply the assistant and joe pa were assured by teh AD/president guys that it was taken care of, and that those guys failed to do shit about anything

You mean to tell me that the police wouldn't have kept it quiet if Jopa asked them to? They are also a part of the machine and wouldn't have wanted to tarnish the Uni's rep as well. So what you're saying doesn't fly.

LOL yeah dude public record, not to mention child rapists cases are a DA's wet dream 99% of the time, its never going to be kept quiet forever

That's impossible, because he is going to coach at OSU. :)

who would go to OSU and their NCAA sanctions when you have none of that at PSU?

Meyer is making way too much money semi-retired to even think about picking up a coaching job, right now. If he does come back, it'll be after a few more years & a lot of doctors consultations.

what's worse - NCAA infractions because some morons traded their shit for tattoo's and the coach tried to keep them on the field......or a coach who allowed a child RAPIST to continue doing what he did - to AT LEAST 9 kids - likely more - ?

Paterno should have stopped coaching 10 years ago - he makes Bob Dylan sound crisp and clear in his speech

If he's on the sidelines when they visit OSU or Wisconsin - I hope they don't hold back at all - he, and everyone who had any knowledge of this, should be fired today.

As for the Meyer rumor - he's from Ohio, and was an assistant at OSU previously - not impossible, but I'd be very surprised to see him end up at Penn St.

The only likely scenario for him to coach either school is to sit out for several years & rest, exercise & manage to get a doctor to ok him for another run. By that time, Ohio St might be open after whatever poor schmoe takes it now manages to lurch them through their probation.

If NCAA doesn't put them Penn St. on probation, then there will be shit storm.

what does that do to the actual program? nothing.

although OSU likely has better talent coming in.
