No it's not. its a criminal issue.

The NCAA has no authority over this. though knowing how the NCAA has been lately i wouldn't be surprised if they but in.

This is a police and school matter not a sport issue.
NCAA has code of conduct rules too.
If a player breaks the law, the NCAA will suspend him.
The same probably goes for coaches.

Probably doesn't matter since he retired in 1999.

My biggest issue with this whole thing is the focus on just Paterno. If they want to fire him over it then the athetic director, school president and anyone else who was aware of the incidents should be gone too as they were aware of the situation and did nothing as well. I'd support that. I just hate all of the focus on one cog on a much larger wheel.

One has resigned. Another has taken a leave of absence.

Eventually the Penn State Board of Trustees will have to act and force everyone involved out, even Joe Paterno. There is to much damage done to the school name for action not to be taken and not cleaning house will only continue to damage the schools reputation.

This. They all should go if the knew.

The wife wants to know if criminal charges are in order if someone actually saw abuse happening and failed to call the police.

State law its a summary offense(lowest form of misdeameanor).
Federal law its a class b misdeameanor.

And you don't have personally see it. You can get charged for those minor crimes if you should have had a reasonable suspecision/reason to suspect.

The crimes are relatively minor, neither would involve jail time. The fines wouldn't be that high. Everyone involved is more likely worried about civil suits, as the criminal charges aren't that severe and the tarnishment to their legacy and reputation has already happened and is more or less irrepairable.

This just came out of JoePa's mouth this evening

"It's hard for me to tell you how much this means to me. I've lived for this place, and I've lived for people like you guys and girls, and I'm just so happy to see that you could feel so strongly about us and about your school. The kids that were victims or whatever they want to say, I think we all ought to say a prayer for them. Tough life, when people do certain things to you. Anyway, you've been great. Everything's great, all right."

I want to punch him in the mouth. What a complete ass.

Any respect I had left for Joe just vanished.

Never thought I would live to see the day when we need to fear men with our young boys, over young girls.

I still can't believe no one called the police. Just dumbfounded.

you're reading his quotes the wrong way. he also sounded remorseful in the actual video.

"I've lived for this place. I've lived for people like you guys and girls," Paterno said. "It's hard for me to say how much this means."

"As you know, the kids that were the victims, I think we ought to say a prayer for them," he added.

FYI: names are being x-checked w/Sandusky's Second Mile, and there are other older adult men with "curious" relationships. Only the start.

Several coaches covering up for a pedophile is not a "Sport issue?"

Coaches are integral to sports. A coach taking part of a criminal conspiracy with his AD staff is a "sports issue." You're **supposed** to expect a coach to be trustworthy, as they have a ton of power over these kids.

Turning a blind eye to kids getting $ & gifts from boosters is common in big time sports. I'm a gator fan & I don't think for one minute that there haven't been TONS of violations that were never reported at UF for the past 20 years. This is undoubtedly true for most of the big schools. Ohio State was just unlucky to get caught & Tressel handled it terribly.

Coaches should report a lot of things. If a coach finds out his player raped a girl, he should make sure that player should be kicked off the team and report it to the police. I'm pretty sure the NCAA would come down on the team if a coach didn't do so.

So, why would it be different if the rapist is a coach and the victim a young boy?

The NCAA focusing on whether boosters give money to players, while allowing coaches and the AD to engage in criminal conspiracy shows some pretty misplaced priorities.

The NCAA is just a corrupt cartel.

I saw nothing in teh Grand Jury transcript suggesting the cover up stretches out beyond sandusky and the AD

if there is other stuff great post some links, otherwise stop knowingly spreading misinformation

I hope Sandusky is on suicide watch. I'd like him to encounter Bubba for a few years.

Many more to come out, I would guess.

"I am just overwhelmed at how hands-on Jerry is, and I think he is more involved now than I think he ever was... He has his hands in every event and you can see his real passion for what he believes in, he takes everyone in as family."

"It's like he was put on this earth to work with kids. I don't know if I have ever met another man that was as caring and as compassionate with children as he is."

He was complicit in the cover up.

If that doesn't break the code of conduct of the NCAA, then the NCAA is even more worthless.
