You deserve money from her death? In what way did you help her acquire anything she left to your mother?

Who the hell buys a $1,500 laptop that they don't even think is useful for them? You're an idiot.

In what way does anyone deserve anything then? :colbert:

I didn't say it wouldn't be useful. It would have a use. I said crazy useful. (I'm not going to get ten thousand emails every day that need to be done everywhere) I would find it useful for doing some mundane work on when I am between using my desktop at home and maybe using a lab computer at school (And arguably, lab computers at school could be inaccessible/time-consuming). I'm thinking that time could increase a level that has not been seen before.

People typically get things they deserve by working for them. Spending time with your grandma is not work.

You in no way need a computer anywhere near that expensive, I am on my laptop about 14 hours a day for school work and it wasn't even half of what you are looking to spend. Earn some money yourself before you start buying expensive toys.

LOL you don't NEED USB3 for backups. Use rsync, it will only backup what changes. There can't possibly be THAT much that changes for USB2 to be too slow. Just leave backups go overnight, even if it does end up taking 4 hours, who cares?

You've never had or used a laptop have you dipshit?

I have three of them in my house right now. If you weren't such a pathetic loser and have one redeemable value, I would send you one but I'm sure none of them would be good enough for you. Even though two have discrete graphics, one with a SSD but no USB3. You're too funny.

You do know that I'm smarter, more technical, more common sense and more of a clue than you right?

Please tell me why you might need USB 3 for data backup? I have USB3 on my desktop and don't use it. I recently used my laptop to clone my desktop HDD to my new SSD. Oh noes, USB2 is not as fast as USB3.

Heat? WTF. Better battery life? Get another battery pussy. Agile? WTF

For a poor unmotivated pathetic loser, you have a lot of demands. Beggars can't be choosers.

Thankfully, people like you are around to give the rest of us a laugh.

I've used multiple laptops quite a bit. Most are disappointing.

And you don't have any of what you listed.

Oh noes, because nothing has ever gotten faster in the future, right? Gosh, glad I am still on my 10BASE-T connection! There are real benefits to USB 3.0 right now and not just in the future.

And your arguments there just show how LITTLE you know about laptops. I've fucking used these things and any reason to get rid of heat is fucking pure win. Why do I need to carry around another battery? You realize the point of a laptop right? (To be mobile)

I like responding to these troll comments though.

Here you go loser:

I have $1000. What do I buy? - maybe you should have bought a laptop

Laptops, really that useful? - oh wait, all the reasons people told you why a laptop was useful but you found them stupid and now you want one. Oh, noes!!!

Do you go to funerals? - Karma bitch. Lock the thread and ban this worthless POS.

I don't think I've ever been to one. I could have gone to one for my grandma last year (the person who had the biggest positive impact on my life) but I decided not to.

So, why should the kids get anything? Why should anyone get inheritance unless they did manual labor for the parents 24/7/365?

You're also on it with it plugged in (presumably). Try doing it without that... Most laptops at the cheap range have shit battery life for some reason or another. I'm also not going to deal with the 8" LCDs with 800x640 resolution. There are ten thousand other things, but that's just the beginning of the cheap ones. I would know, I've used mostly cheap laptops.

Again, you're still failing even though you keep digging for my threads.

I think I ended up not getting the money (Because it was a time-expiring offer) or if I did, it went to paying rent, food, and other non-fun expenditures.

Maybe I don't want something running for 4 hours at night whirring away while I try to sleep with a thousand different fucking activity lights going off? :colbert:

I'm looking at a Dell XPS 15z, looks like it might be a good alternative to a MBP. Can't be sure though.

LOL. Still waiting to hear why you need a laptop and how any of these features would benefit you. Please tell us how USB 3.0 is going to benefit you....

Of course you love negative attention b/c you get zero attention in real life and any attention is better than none. Still loving your L&R thread!!!!!

I actually have no problem with not giving children inheritance. My parents have done more than enough for me and I would MUCH rather have them around than receive any inheritance at all.

I need to plug it in a few times a day, I have a hard time thinking of times that I don't have an outlet available for the short period it takes to get fully charged. Occasional usage of a laptop doesn't take a whole lot of battery anyway, if you are just busting it out for something specific and putting it away you can easily go a day with only a 5 hour charge of heavy usage.

I guess you have very satisfactory parents. Not everyone does.

Alright, but think about having to carry a lot of textbooks (I hate ebooks for multiple reasons), the laptop, any bicycle gear, a DSLR camera, maybe lenses, maybe external hard drive, ... you get the idea? If I can lower what I have to carry around then that makes me happy. Not having to carry some massive power adapter is quite nice. I don't know if they get smaller as you get a nicer laptop but all the cheap ones seem to have this massive brick that is very cumbersome.

And although you might not use it super heavily every day, what about those random days that it does happen? :\

Wait, you're poor and lugging around a DSLR and lenses around campus?

My gf wants to know if her six month old MBA would be good enough for you?

Having an insanely expensive laptop isn't going to cut down on your list at all, even if you have a laptop with a wonderful battery life, you will still carry around your power adapter just in case of those random days. There isn't a single person that I know that keeps a laptop on them that doesn't also have their power adapter.

I got it for cheapish. I've been waiting five years for one and pining away at it. 50mm 1.8 ($90) and the kit lens ($85). Less than $700 altogether (This includes the lens, camera, and memory card). And if I ever get more lenses in the future(whenever that job of mine actually pays me more than $200 every 2-4 weeks) then I'd definitely like to have room. And considering lenses that I want are a minimum of $500 (Sigma 30mm 1.4, Canon 16-35L(>$1200), there's more) I won't be seeing them soon.

Six month old? Probably not. I was eyeballing the new ones because they're looking OK, but they're so expensive for what you get. They wouldn't last for 3 years either.

It could if it's thin, light, and got the right battery+power-usage. I know people who do that, but those people also tend to use Mac's because they think someone else will carry a similar power adapter around. And it's unlikely that I will use a laptop for 7+ hours without stopping at home once AND without having planned for that usage accordingly. Is it likely that I will use it for 5 though and not have the brick with me? I think so.

What do your friends use for laptops at school? How are they able to get thru the day and you wouldn't be able to? Oh wait, you don't have any friends.

And my gf says that you should sell your DSLR stuff and buy a laptop.

Performance would likely suffer direly from the apps I'd be running. (Photoshop, lightroom, some games, more crap) The apps are not going to become more efficient over time. The little low voltage dual core is probably much slower than the i7-2620M you get in a XPS 15z. I'd like to get a quad core, but that's not offered in the XPS.
