Performance would likely suffer direly from the apps I'd be running. (Photoshop, lightroom, some games, more crap) The apps are not going to become more efficient over time. The little low voltage dual core is probably much slower than the i7-2620M you get in a XPS 15z.

So nothing you actually need for school.

School work would likely only involve browsing ebscohost and writing programs that are not long and intensive. So, probably not... I think any computer within the last 10 years would manage fine JUST for school work.

Depends though. If I do some kind of animation thing for a class then it's going to need something better. Better be prepared than not at all.

If I have a laptop I am not going to use it JUST for school work when at school. Oh and one thing, I can't stand writing programs or even browsing the net on such low res screens. Ever since I've used 1920x1200, it's been hard to use anything less. Being bored between classes at school is the worst.

It's not your money. You don't deserve a dime, favorite grandson or not.

Pay for the laptop yourself, or use the computer lab at your university.

WTF? I'm sitting here at 29 still living at home with my parents. No job right now and pretty depressed. You'd think of all people I might understand you, right? NO NO NO! You know who's money that is!? It IS/WAS your grandparents money!! Not yours. Even if they had decided to not give money to your PARENTS (you know their CHILDREN) let alone YOU, that would be their choice. Let's say they decided to give it all to charity. THAT would NOT be an unreasonable thing to do. To expect them to give you a dime is beyond selfish. How is it that even I get this!?

OP doesnt know the value of money as he never worked a day in his life.

For him to want consumer electronics that doubles as a status symbol only confirms OP's failure in life. Leeching away from his family and dead grandparents to fulfill his ego makes it even sadder.

Uses have changed since then? And I'll admit, a laptop is not going to be crazy useful for me. However, I wouldn't mind having one anyway.

And who cares if I didn't feel anything over her death? Just because I didn't feel anything doesn't mean I deserve less. Keep showing how stupid you are.

Dad is too broken to work. Mom didn't want to work if Dad wasn't.

Nah, I loathe Mac's in general. I only want it because it actually seems like it'd be the only thing that will run for 3 years. I'd probably put Windows 7 on it and dual-boot to Mac for any stupid Mac related shit I encounter. Unfortunately, I will most likely have to learn the evil ways of OS X because of my career path.

College expenses, IIRC, include things outside of tuition... Hey, laptops... they are usually consider an expense. And you didn't read the cliffs even. Diaf troll.

I honestly only wish the worse for you. You're a breathing POS. Ban this troll.

Stupid is being poor but sponging off one's parent's and government for a college education, iphone, car, DSLR and now you want a laptop that people making six-figures think is silly to own. Even more pathetic is that you don't even have a school use for it but you want it as a toy b/c your life is so pathetic that you need a new toy to add meaning to your life.

And you wonder why you have no friends and will never get laid, your personality is absolutely disgusting. You'll die a poor and lonely loser.

Lol. People making six figures are the primary market for macs. A $1500 laptop is not that outrageous either if you have a use for it. (games and lightroom woot) I mean who is actually worse here: me or the guy replying to everything I post in all forums. Oh and apparently you have a girlfriend but prefer to reply to me than talk to her. You're a winner for sure!

Oh and I posted this from my iPhone. :D

Uhh no games are NOT a macbook's strong suit. Even lightroom I'd look for a laptop with more ram than your average macbook. Macbooks are for people who want a really nice looking and feeling general use laptop. Someone who wants no compromises in built quality, no keyboard flex, solid aluminium build, very nice screen, just high quality components all round. However they are willing to sacrifice specs a bit to get this cause most macbooks are middle of the road spec wise. Actually for taking notes, writing up essays and other documents, presentations, etc they are good laptops. Which means they are actually good school laptops if you can afford them. Though like I said you can get quite a lot more spec wise for the same price if you don't mind sacrificing built quality a bit. Or get more than one laptop if you don't mind lower specs AND build quality like others have mentioned. And such a cheaper laptop would suit your needs for school as well. And they aren't really good for the 2 things you mentioned above.

How many times did you get laid today? Sorry but she's working on contracts tonight, she's a lawyer. So, while she's doing that I find it entertaining reading another whiney bitch thread from you. Me, worse than you? I have multiple degrees, make good money, own a home and get laid regularly. Everything you don't have. Plus, have 3 laptops laying around the house, along with a tablet, newly built desktop system(old quadcore and highend gpu laying on the flloor and will probably donate to a friend so we can game together).

Games? That's what my desktop is for. Again, you're crying about not having a laptop to play games and modify your DSLR photos.

Of course, you lied to your mother that you need this expensive laptop for school. Keep up the great work, loser! I'm sure lunch(not a date) with that girl is going to be so fruitful for you.

Also.. you are in a public university right?

You should be able to use systems in labs.. and most of them should be open past midnight.

Haha.. most of the major universities have dedicated Mac labs. He does not even have to buy lightroom.. as univs have full fledged photoshop licenses.

Personally I might get lightroom, though not the MBP. I'm an armature photographer and I've been using freeware raw tools for a while now. The Student discounts you can get are pretty amazing.

Reading through the OP and all the responses, I still can't shake off the question whether this is a serious thread or just plain trolling.

Here you go, buy an Asus netbook, and install Linux on it. The new netbooks are pretty sexy, and cheap, and you can then do some coding for free software projects. You can have all the free software you want, improve your brain through logical thought, and contribute to society. The cost to play is about $300.
