if your grandparents wanted to give you something, they would have explicitly stated so. they probably think you are a self-entitled, self-absorbed, failing loser just like the rest of the world does.

So just reading the last 30 or so posts, I'd like Trident to read my story:

1) Parents never made more than 65k in my life
2) They raised 5 kids on that salary (admittantly with help from some state programs)
3) My parents didn't save a cent for college, neither did I
4) I got no support from my parents during college. Wait.. they paid my voice only phone bill (20 or so a month)
5) Holy shit I am still alive.

It seems you expect that your parents should be financially helping you through the more difficult points in your life. Instead you should be thanking them for whatever help they give you. You've already taken 18+ years of their support, it's about time to step up and take care of yourself.

You would never have made it as me as a kid. Quoting my dad ' I give you a roof over your head, food in your belly and clothes on your back, what more do you want ?"

Cliffs - I'm in college. Mom got inheritance from dead mother. Parents spend it on stupid shit(Escalade, useless renovation on house, et cetera). I think they should be spending some of it on me because I was the favorite grandchild. . . . Do you get any kind of parental support for college?

Your parents got you this far. Now it is time to take care of yourself and let your parents have some fun.

If your grandmother wanted you to be the direct beneficiary of any part of the inheritance, she would have named you in her will.

As for me, my parents paid for 3 years of tuition, but I was responsible for my books, my room and board, and all expenses for my 4th year (including tuition). I firmly believe that my parents did me a huge favor by making me personally responsible for at least some part of the cost of my education.

People in this country (especially in the younger generations) need to leave their entitlement mentality behind. Not only is it seriously annoying (to employers), but it is symptomatic of the overall pussification of our great nation.

In sum - work for what you want, and stop complaining about not receiving a handout from your parents.

I have everything I need to survive, but I'd like some convenience. Apparently that just goes everyone's head because they're too low in the troll grime.

"Convenience" as you put it, is earned. Not given.

Maybe. I'm still looking. I have a few requirements that many laptops don't seem to have. (USB 3.0, great battery life, decently accurate display, good performance, maybe SSD)

ThinkPad x220. IPS screen, 10+ hours of battery life, Sandy Bridge Core i5/i7 and a mSATA slot for a SSD.

I have the greatest parents in the world. We'll never have lots of money but nobody is richer.

You don't need a powerhouse laptop for schoolwork. Work hard, do well, and you'll get yours later. You don't think mom and dad deserve a few nice things?

What is it with kids these days feeling entitled to everything they want? If she wanted you to have an inheritance she would named you in the will. EARN your new laptop.

Congratulations on (IMHO) the best post of the day (perhaps the year). I too once found myself in your situation. I had the best parents in the world who sacrificed for me gave me more than I deserved. We had little then but we were happy. Now they are gone and I have more than I need nor deserve. I wish I were rich ...

Just because you feel like you learned something from having to pay for your expenses doesn't mean I will. I've grown up poor so I know the value of a $. I'm a tightass about my money. MBP was just an example of a laptop I'd like, but probably never buy (I looked into details more about the same time I posted). I don't buy $200 diesel jeans like the rest of ATOT nor do I buy any other ridiculous items that I'd never use. Some of you think an iPhone is useless, but I've used that fucking thing to death and back. It has a purpose for me and I like it. Well worth the money I spent.

Looked into it. It has some weak graphics (Intel HD 3000), which might hinder me. I'm still on the fence about that. :/

You're moronic for thinking that.

Read thread. They have a lot already. Harley, $50k truck, Escalade, a new Jeep they got as a toy, give me a break.

All Macbook Pros that cost less than $1800 also use the HD3000 so you won't be avoiding it there either. To be honest I've found the HD3000 to be good enough for any game that I would bother playing on a laptop.

Aside from the gpu the x220 is an exceptional laptop though and is well worth the money.

For whatever it's worth, I was working AND paying rent at 15

Never seen a dollar for college or business school

Yeah, I noticed that when I actually started to look closer. I remembered them having better graphics beforehand, but maybe I am mistaken.

Idk. I'm just trying to think of all the games that might come out in the next 3 years that I might want to play on a laptop. I'm thinking Diablo III. I don't know how graphics intensive that will be, but it would be nice to see some nice gore. And yes, I assume the X220 is a good laptop outside of GPU performance.

I think I might go look around some shops to see these in person better. (If they're available anywhere)

Not worth anything. Welcome to reality.

Btw, the fact you didn't get anything for college or business school and paid rent at 15 shows how much you failed. Learn to scholarship/financial-aid.
