I think the safer way to do it is to have a top-two instant runoff jungle primary. Instant runoff is the same as this ranked-choice system. A "jungle primary" is one where all political parties agree to compete in a single, combined primary, like the one Alaska had. The difference is, if the ranked-choice system is used in the primary, it's more likely to pass muster with the Supreme Court, because it's not the final, official election; it's just an agreement among political parties.

A lot of the Republicans were anti abortion in the primary. There's been a few stories of candidates trying to scrub it from their web pages for the general.

To even drill into that, you just place an online order and pick your favorite thing, then your next favorite thing in case they are sold out. That's it.

We can go into technical discussion of trying to game the system, but that already exists in our primary format. I can register opposite party and try to swing a candidate.
 
From what I've read people in Alaska were not really confused about the method of voting, they just intentionally left a lot of ballots blank after their first choice or went for Petola because they really didn't care for Palin. RCV will generally reward moderation (of all kinds) and alignment with the electorate's policy preferences overcoming raw partisanship. I definitely can think of one other very happy lady in Alaska right now.

I don't know if having more influence and choice is a complicated, negative situation that will cause an adverse turnout among voters. It's not really that complicated, and has been put to good use in other democracies already. It doesn't matter what magats think of it, they already consider it rigging as it's delivered Trumpists defeats. The only valid elections are the ones they win after all.

I do know that if complexity is an issue, simplifying the general election to a popular vote would be the best place to start. Most Americans have zero understanding of the EC, and since it's proven useless against treasonous demagogues as well as heavily influenced by the census - which we saw politicized and hampered by Team Treason intentionally - removing it strengthens election integrity.

There's an example out there where Republicans decided they suddenly need to demand federal power to step in and remove their state's right to determine their voting system?

Oh deary me! However will they square this with--ah fuck it. You know they don't give a fuck about message, integrity, an actual platform, or delivering anything, to anyone.

it's just histrionics and theater, everywhere, all the time. Distract from the lack of any actual work ever accomplished and well, the direct theft from your supporters while doing it, and just keep them mad about "whatever!" so that they keep feeding you power. That's it, really.

Typical Repub ploy where they go hard right to win primaries then swing a wee bit softer the other way to sucker some independents into voting R. Hypocrisy is not at all a problem so long as these Repub candidates stay on the red side of the fence. Hell they could stand on the fence and lean a bit their way and it's all good.

He actually is off by some margins in some states. MS and KS actually can be blue. Also..... what made him think Tennessee? TN actually voted numericaly and percent wise both more right of Texas in 2020. In what mind would one even think of Utah voting blue? Utah is the most populous safe red state, even more red than Texas. Alaska is also sorta one of those flippable states sorta, Biden actually lost by only 30K, quite a low margin loss historically.
