Hey, all the employment threads here got me to thinking. I operate a continuous electron beam accelerator, called CEBAF, at Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility.

JLAB Website

Well, a new hire in my group just quit yesterday as he decided he liked teaching more than working. So, it looks like my boss will be looking for a replacement soon. Operating the machine is fun and challenging most of the time, and only 70% of our time is spent doing that. The other 30% is spent doing project work. My project work is assisting with the ACE Team (accelerator computing environment) where I get to do PC and Unix work. This is excellent for my resume. There are other areas of endeavor one can pursue if the ACE Team isn't for you. Many of my coworkers are programmers, some do RF and/or elecrtronics engineering work. One person even does target design work with the theortical physicists over in the Test Lab. As you can see the sky's the limit.

Does this interest you? Do you think you might be qualified? If so, you can PM me with your credentials and/or your resume and I can let you know how it looks. My boss likes technical ex-military types who did some form of watchstanding (ex Navy nukes are his favorite). A BS in engineering, engineering tech, physics, and math are also very beneficial. If you are qualified and desire for me to do so, I'll submit your resume to my manager.

I can't make any promises but he does ask us for any candidates we might know of. So you never know. Thanks for reading.

ps - if you have any specific questions about my work, the working conditions, or scheduling just post them here or in the THREAD I created earlier. I'll answer to the best of my ability.

Megatomic, so what kind of hours do you put in on average? Is there some overtime? Is it paid? Is it a pretty flexible work atmosphere?

I work for union pacific. We are having a hiring blitz everywhere west of the mississippi. The up trains (as in teaches not box cars ) for all positions, so if you dont have expirence dont worry, unless it specificaly says you need it, then you dont, and somtimes when it says you do need expirence you dont.

Managment positions off the street will require a 4 year degree. Agreement jobs require no degree and offer an avenue for advancment to manager if you choose that route.

I am about to enter my 5th straight month of being unemployed. I have been in IT/MIS/Engineering for over 18 years in NYC and while I see and have been on 100s of interviews i always get the "overqualified" or the "we are afraid that with your highlevel background you will leave the company as soon as something better comes along" bit. WTF!?!?! I just want to work so I can support my family! Its not my fault I have been doing this for so long! Why do companies do this? I dont ask for the world, I just want to work in a field that I love. I think that most of the time the interviewers feel threatened that I may take their job away at some point but thats BS. I just want to work and I always tell them that. I am looking to try to start my own consulting company just so I dont have to deal with this nonsense anymore.

i work for a helicopter flight school in prescott, az.

recently(well, a few months ago) the guy who did our website took a job in alaska and it seems to take much more of his time than he had anticapated. so we need a new designer to update information, continue the development of the site as the school grows, and implement new features.

here's the site. mostly HTML and Flash.

my boss would like someone local(in state). so any suggestions/recommendations? who's up for some continous web work?

I posted earlier about some positions. Now we need more people again. Just placed 12 requisitions for Level 1 and Level 2 Help Desk Analysts.

DO NOT SEND ME YOUR RESUME THIS TIME!

Contact Alternative Resources Corp (http://www.arcnow.com) and mention your interest in Ameriquest. We're using them as headhunters.

The positions are currently in Orange, CA, but will be moving to Irvine in a month or so. Ranges from $35-44k (don't quote me on this though, because I'm not supposed to discuss salary).

Experience not absolutely necessary, but you will need SOME kind of technical job AND some kind of customer service job on your resume.

MUST BE WELL SPOKEN. No mealymouths please. A good sense of humor, or at least laughing at the manager's "jokes" is required. ;) No PrimaDonnas, nobody with a thin skin, nobody who's gonna play the "world owes me a living" game, please.

If you've read some of my threads, I've had 2 promotions in less than a year as an employee there. Can't beat that with a stick! I love the job, it's fun, the people there are great, and pays decent. Plus the company is growing like mad.

I'm looking for someone to help me out in the Pittsburgh, PA area. We've been grabbing people off of Monster but they've all been rather incapable of working without constant direct supervision.

Entry level IT/end user support, basically the stuff that needs doing that I don't have time to do. I just need someone who can help end users with their minor problems, help document our IT inventory & populate a database with the info, ghost & deploy new systems as we get them, etc. I don't need someone with experience, just a geek who knows how to work & doesn't need constant supervision.

Initially it would be salary, contract basis, with possibility of direct hire. I can provide salary info if you're interested, just PM me.

Chicago, Illinois - Mathematician
WMS Gaming

Job Summary
Design math models for gaming products and work closely with the game development artists, sound designers, game designers and producers.

http://jobsearch.monster.com/getjob.asp?JobID=24304888
WMS gaming Designs and manufactures video slots, mechanical slots, video poker, etc.

We are lookig to hire another math guy. This is the same position I currently hold here, so if you are interested or have questions, PM me.

Contrary to the "Qualifications Required" section you don't need a math degree to apply, but knowledge of statistics and probability is a must. For instance I have a CS degree, and we are looking for someone with strong programming skills. We are hiring for a studio whose current mathematician is moving to a game designer position, so you would have a lot of guidance.

You don't have to be a gambling afficianado to work here, but it definitely doesn't hurt.
