I already have SageTV... this is pretty much the same functionality that I have already? I know I can type in an ip address and connect to my host machine.

Not sure. I know sage offers streaming capability, but what I like about Orb is it determines the network link between your host machine and client and automatically transcodes your media on the fly for best performance.

I tried it out and noticed it was using 100% cpu almost all the time between all of its components that it installs. Even if you aren't streaming, it is using 100% cpu.. I uninstalled it... Had a bad feeling about the software. maybe it was just the way I installed it?

Right after you install it, it does peg the CPU for a while. After a while it should level off though.

I'd like to hear back from you on this issue...

This is like having your fly down at a hairdressers convention...it feels that exposed. 😱😱😱

No adware or spyware, although it does display a small orb banner in WMP when not fullscreen.

Don't use VLC, so I can't compare.

No TV tuner 🙁 so I cant report on that.

Only thing I noticed was that there are seriously about 7 processes associated with the program while running (orb.exe, orbicon.exe, orbserver.exe ect. ect. ect.) Doesnt bog down the CPU however...which is a plus. im very glad you posted this Werk....i dont know how they can provide this free...but it is a very good program!

Orb System RequirementsTo have the best Orbing experience, your home computer on which you install Orb Media needs the following:
2.4Ghz Intel Pentium* IV processor or equivalent (Note that a slower processor may cause "stuttering" when streaming TV or videos)

Ouch.

Software looks interesting and definitly worth a try, but I can't use it. Thanks though OP

If you want to give it a try, for music and photos, it ran fine on my old AXP 1600+. Video and TV were too jerky and pegged my CPU on the host machine though.

yeah...overall Id say video is a no-go...it really scales down the quality and almost isint worth it. The pictures work great...and Ive had no problems with audio so far....only problem is I cant give my friends links to listen to it...they have to login to my account (only one logon at a time 🙁 )

Oh cool, thanks! I will give it a try for music and photos.

Saw this link for the first time this afternoon.

After playing with this program for a few hours I've got to say I'm impressed!

My 'Host" is a Dell SC400 3.2Ghz so I've got no problems running it to my IBM T42 or even a friends ACER 3000 Lappy. 🙂

It's limited by only one user per session as mentioned above which is a bummer.

I've got an AMD64 based HTPC that I'm going to try this on also with a seperate acct.

Thanks a ton for posting this werk
